Mosconi Cup 2021 Day 1 Updates

Filler breaks dry, but again is lucky to leave no shot on the 1. Balls sitting lovely, so whoever wins the safety battle might win the rack.
Again Filler is lucky to not scratch, Shane has a pot, but me and commentators are not entirely sure what he tried to do with the 1. Filler plays a great save and Shane's escape goes completely wrong. Ball in hand for Filler with an open table. End of match, 5:2 Filler.

Alcaide/shaw vs. Woodwar/jj
USA wins the lag.
Skylar breaks dry. Easy combination to start for the Euros.
No real troubles for Alcaide and Shaw and they go up 1:0.

In between the racks there is a discussion with the ref...I think Shaw points out that a piece of cloth is sticking out at the corner pocket.
Euros pocket a ball on the break, call a push and lock up the 4 and the 7. Shawn's speed control to lock the balls up is impressive though.
USA gives the push back and Shaw leaves the 1 open, but the question is, if USA can create some action on the two tied up balls. Skylar plays a two, three, four way shot. Safety, bank on the 1, carom on the 4/7 or maybe dropping the 9...but nothing falls so Europe in for the 1.
And since things happen faster than I can write it down we are at a safety battle on the 2.
JJ double hits the two and Shaw is in again.
Alcaide just can roll in the 5 and Shaw is faced with a tough 6.
Finally the Euros fall into good position and go up 2:0.

JJ is breaking, but, as so often tonight, there is nothing to go for, never seen so much push outs in a MC.
Long, very long combo chance for Shaw and Alcaide...but the say "go ahead" and hand it back.
USA opts for a save and it is open for the Euros, Jayson makes the 1 and puts his partner in good shape for the 2.
Shaw behind the back draw shot, while cheating the pocket... SHAWBOATING.
Oh,oh touchy shot for Shaw on the six and Alcaide has to play save. Locked behind the 9 and 8, USA has to perform a miracle to create something here. Tough shot for JJ and he doesn't come close to the 7. Alcaide has to bump into the 9, but no problem and Euros go up 3:0.

Shaw is breaking aaaand we have a dry break. 5 and 8 locked up, so let's see what Woodward and JJ can do here.
Skylar has to let his stroke out, but he rattles the 2, so Alcaide is in. Shaw is a bit soft for the safety on the 3. JJ blocks the path to the 3 and Alcaide brings his jump cue, he gets away with it but opens up the 5/8.
Skylar plays a save, but again a beautiful, soft kicksave from Shaw. JJ makes contact, but he scratches...Woodward's comment:" Brutal!"
Another nice shot and I can't see the Euros messing up.
We hear Alcaide say:"Vamos, Vamos!"
And they are up 4:0.

Skylar breaking and he makes a ball, but again they have to play defence.
Nice save from JJ, spinning it behind the 4.
Jayson flukes the 8 after contacting the 1, but no offensive shot on the 1.
Good attempt from Woodward kicking for the 1,but he leaves it in front of the pocket.
First slight mistake by Jayson nit giving David a clear shot on the 2. Alcaide rail first for the 2 and Jayson slices in the 3. Difficult pot for Alcaide on the 4,and they fall into prime position.
What a performance from Alcaide and Shaw. Whitewash 5:0.

Woodward and JJ did nothing wrong...one very, very impressive performance FROM Alcaide and Shaw.

Thank you for taking the time to provide those who can't watch with updates, it is appreciated by many. What would make them even better and more readable though is if you would refer to safes by their proper name of "safe" rather than the incorrect term of "save". It may only be one letter but it makes a big difference. Thanks again for the updates! (y)

Save is an appropriate alternate pool term for safe, even if it’s not what you are used to hearing it referred to as.

I agree that purple 5 is a real trash idea and I still can't believe it. 5 should always be ORANGE! but that doesn't make the table color awful, this table color looks great on all billiards ball colors including the orange 5 if it was being played with. Purple also looks great on it.
Tired of seeing pink, brown, ball on the pool table unless I’m watching a snooker match. The five ball needs to be orange, the seven ball needs to be maroon, and the four needs to be Moby Grape purple. The nine needs to white with a yellow stripe and pool table cloths need to be green, just like dollar bills!

Regardless of the synonymity or what a dictionary might say, if you are the only pool player on earth using one term to describe a certain action while all the other hundreds of thousands of pool players use another term, then you are not using the appropriate term.

You had me with you up to the cloth part!

Never heard that term used in 40yrs of playing.

JJ wasn't the worst player there.....Kaci was.

We really would have been in a good place up 3 to 1. At 2-2...we are still underdogs.
