The event was moved to Florida -- Caribe Royale Resort, Orlando -- apparently because of motor racing in Las Vegas.

Tickets more or less sold out in two hours. As of now, there are a few VIP seats for some days left ($400) and resold seats for about 3X the original price.

The BCA Hall of Fame induction of Shane Van Boening, Mark Griffin and Mike Panozzo will take place the evening of the 29th at the Caribe Royal.

Are the teams set yet? I looked on Matchroompool and found nothing except that Gorst and Kaci are qualified (in August) and Woodward and Shaw are playing captains. My guess:

Gorst, SVB, Woodward, Styer, Dominguez(?)

Kaci, FSR, Shaw, Alcaide, Krause(?)

It's not a legit MC without Filler.

Lol. These clowns have removed Filler and made Gorst an American in an attempt to make the MC interesting.

#1 and # 2 off the Euro team with 1 added to US team and we still dont stand a chance.

The MC should just crawl in a hole and die

Ha Ha. The Euro “B-Team” are still big favorites!
Actually, it is starting to look competitive., but the event is losing its identity, no longer representing the best of America vs the best of Europe.

That said, the Mosconi Cup is as much a party as it is a pool competition, and I have every confidence that it will be a lot of fun as always. As a pool spectacular, Matchroom has mastered the Mosconi Cup. It remains a premium product at a premium price.

... just wait until they declare Filler to be American!

I just had a long conversation about this topic. That’s the conclusion we came up with. It should be a bit more competitive, but Europe is still the favorite. I’d guess 11-8 or 11-7 is the final score. I think this cost Europe 2 points on the board.

Having said that, I hope it’s competitive and America wins.

It will be good fun for sure

Competition 101.
The team expected to win and has been winning holds the pressure not to lose.
The underdogs have nothng to lose, they are losers going in.
Even a blind squirrel can find a nut. The best team doesn't always win.

I don't watch it. Long ago, probably before they came up with the idea to bring in Navy Seals and the
rest of that disastrous joke, I lost interest.
For the record I'm a big fan of our Navy Seals and Military, God Bless America.

Bench my starting pitcher so your team can compete.
Joshua Filler not playing is bullcrap, field your best players and lets play ball.
Another reason I love 3 cushion, a different breed of people all the way around.

So... Sky picked his buddy Billy rather than Oscar it seems.
I thought Oscar had way more MC qualifying points than Billy and some big wins over Euros this year in tournaments.
I hope Billy steps up and makes believers of us all.

I don't have a problem with Gorst playing for Team USA. He lives in the USA and is paying taxes here.

And it's not like Russia is part of European culture anyway, they are only in Europe because of geography.

My problem is the absence of Filler. The credibility of the tournament has been damaged.

And Billy Thorpe getting the wild-card over Oscar Dominguez is ridiculous. Oscar has worked his ass off the entire year and accumulated more points than Billy.

We all know Skyler and Billy are friends.

It’s been clear for a few years now that the wildcard picks are just as much about who you’re friends with as it does with how well you’re playing.

Billy is a good player and has worked to better himself this past year, but he got picked because he’s Sky’s friend not because he played/is playing better than Oscar.

One of the ''boys'' is how the real world/life & business operate.

It's the same in all aspects of life.
To expect it in a manner that you approve of is an ''opinion''.
Many opinions have been proven right/wrong.

I stated the fact that based upon performance, Oscar has it all over Billy.
That was not opinion.
As stated, I hope Billy steps up and performs well.
If his presence amps up Sky's game then it will be worth it.

I am a big Oscar fan. I think he is the epitome of a professional and He has put a lot of miles and time in chasing the points to be on this MC team this year. He has earned the right to be on the team, IMO.

Having said that, I think Billy is custom made for this event. He has a swagger and braggadocio that is at least equal to Shaw, which I think ultimately helps the team in this event.

Now, I would not have hated it if he would have picked Oscar over Styer.

Sky couldn't even bother with qualifying by points himself, so no great surprise that he picked Billy over someone who actually earned a spot. They are slowly sucking the life out of any remaining US players motivations to go all in with matchroom.

Oh I thought Sky squeaked in the points in hanoi. So he didn't pick Tyler and Billy then.\, just Billy.

Agreed. If you saw Oscar's FB post, he stated he is not chasing points next year...only playing the select tourney's that make sense for him and his family. It's a shame. Until those that don't finish top 10 every tourney can make a living, it won't matter how great MR tourneys are.

styer was automatic i think. good for us euros, noone can shoot a ball straight into the rail like tyler at the MC

Oscar was less than $2,000 away from Skyler in the Mosconi rankings.

Billy Thorpe was $6,000 away from Oscar in the Mosconi rankings.

Nope, Skyler did not qualify on points.

Matchroom announced the teams:

Team USA
Skyler Woodward (Captain of Team USA)
Fedor Gorst (World Champion)
Shane Van Boening (Five-time US Open Champion)
Tyler Styer (Two-time Mosconi Cup winner)
Billy Thorpe (Two-time Mosconi Cup winner)

Team Europe
Jayson Shaw (Captain of Team Europe)
Eklent Kaçi (Two-time Mosconi Cup winner)
David Alcaide (Four-time Mosconi Cup winner)
Mickey Krause (European Open Champion)
Francisco Sanchez Ruiz (Former World Champion)

No doubt, the "AZB asterisk squad" will put an asterisk next to any Team USA victory this year. I root for Team USA, but fully understand that beating a Filler-less Team Europe would be a heavily watered-down accomplishment.
