Mosconi Cup and female pro players...

According to this years players list, Allison is playing for England and GA Young Km and Yu Ram-Cha for Korea and Jasmine for Austria.

Hmmmmm.....I wonder why (not)

Just not so long ago, alot of people in the pool world were campaigning to see the men and women play along side one another. I'm just curious as to why I don't see mad threads about trying to get women to play on the Mosconi Team USA. Once again I'm not hating on my ladies (luv yall), I'm just looking for some consistency in peoples viewpoints and arguments. If women players are allowed to play in the US Open so it can then be a 'true' US Open, then I think that women should be on the Mosconi Team so that it can be a 'true' Mosconi Cup. (Smiles) What do you think??? Lol.

There's a handful of women whom I consider just on the brink. Maybe within a few more years, for seasoning, some of them will be playing in the Mosconi Cup competion.

This was the World pool Masters player list, not the Mosconi cup. IIRC, women did play in earlies Mosconi cup events.
 
Why no women on Mosconi team?

Because the best women still aren't anywhere near the top 1000 pool players in the world, they would get destroyed. Imagine Fisher versus Archer or Van boening in the finals, double hill. Just send it already.

Let's continue the feminization of sports by mandating that 2 of 5 players on the team are female. That and a female corresondent on every NFL broadcast. Oh yeah we already have that don't we?
 
Four women were playing the first Mosconi cup event ever, in 1994:

- Allison Fisher and Franziska Stark for Europe
- Vivian Villarreal and Jeanette Lee for USA

I think both Jeanette Lee and Vivian Villarreal have played in the Mosconi Cup for the United States.
 
I think right now the only way it could be done would be to make the team of 6 players and not 5. Only difference is that one of the 6 team members has to be female. I fear that they would just get beat up on unless the women just played each other.
 
US Open

If either a woman from the US or Europe won the US Open they'd be guaranteed a spot on their respective Mosconi Cup Teams. That's the way matchroom sports does it.

Either that or they'd have to finish top 1 or 2 for the season in points. Right now I don't think there are many American women who could do it. If there is one who's going to do it you'd have to pick Jasmine Ouschan. She's playing very well and has finished in the top 3 in world championship events, i.e. the world straight pool championships a few years ago.

For now the selection process is based on points. The best and most consistent performers make the cut. That's the way it should be. Oh and the US Open champion of course!
 
I don't remember exactly (maybe someone who is at the event this year can tell us)...but I believe the women that did play had pretty decent records the years that they played. Usually there is a program booklet handed out at the event that lists the past participants and their records so if anyone at the event grabs one please let us know.

The format lends itself to close, exciting matches. It's not really fair to compare how the women would do in a U.S. Open type of event vs. their potential performance in the Mosconi. The break format is entirely different and with the short races, it's anybody's game.

Which nations/regions would you pit against one another? No disrespect intended, but right now Europe vs. USA would be a mismatch, to put it mildly. Europe has Jasmin, Karen, Kelly, Allison, & Gerda, just for starters. For extra depth you have Kim Shaw & Line Kjorsvik (sp?). The US has Monica, Sarah, Jeanette, and that's about it for top-flight pros.


I'm all for having a special Mosconi type event for the women, but no one wants to watch a baby seal clubbing.

Looking at the '94 match-ups is interesting. Of all the matches involving the women, only two matches pitted women against men (both singles matches). These two matches involved Viv and Lee, and they won both of them.

The rest of the matches were man v. man; woman v. woman; mixed doubles or doubles of man/man v. man\man or woman/woman v. woman/woman.

The European women did not play any singles matches against men, only the US women did in two matches.

Didn't Viv win an open event recently?

I'm sure there were PLENTY of bent out of shape guys playing in that tournament.

Jeanette isn't a slouch either.

Given the format, sticking those two right back in there with the U.S. men wouldn't be so bad.
