I went over with a buddy for the first two days of the Mosconi Cup.
We had a blast. Some good pool and some shocking misses but there was enopugh excitement to keep it going. Its a good event to go and watch.
Here are a few things I noticed
1- Good to watch vs normal events ... 5 hour periods with roughly 1 hour matches within. Easy to keep your focus and not lose interest.
Only one table insures that you get to see all the action.
2- Break rule was an issue on day one but rarely on day two. I still dont get it though. On day two I saw a few guys break just outside the break lines. Not sure if they had to break from the box or not.
3- Its obvious that Drago doesnt practice 2-3 hours a day. If he did he would be thin as a rail! He plays very quick and when on he shoots very well.
4-America played without any passion at all. Europe played more as a team and were playing very hard. It looked like it meant something to them. Europes players all came out to watch each other (most of the time). Team America players did not do the same.
5- Shane Van Boening plays great. At times he looked a little tentative (second day) but he seems to have more faith in his ability than some of the others.
6- Corey is a loose cannon there. He took several chances and then didnt listen to his partners advice on others which left the partner shaking his head.
7- With Europe dominating day 2 the atmosphere was much more fun. They were pretty quiet at the end of day 1 with rodneys spanking of Neils.
8-The tables appeared to change overnight. They appeared a touch slower and really loose the second day. Too loose for this event.
The European team was the benefactor of the pockets most of the time.
Peach actually pointed to the spot on the rail where he missed the pocket but the ball still went in.
9 Michela Tabb is a beautiful woman
10- MGM was nice. They even had a good deal on the room. It was $80 with $25 credit to spend in theirs restaurants. Not a bad deal at all.
Actually had a couple other promos to choose from as well.
11- I was a bit surrprised that there wasnt reserved seating for the teams. Europes fans slid out of the way and let them sit together. Their team came out and supported their players. Americas did not.
12- Rodney and Drago would have spots on the teams for a few years to come guaranteed. Good showmanship and excellent playing.
A couple disappointing things
No souveniers at all or I never found them.
Not one other Pro Level or well known pool player in the house unless I missed them. We need to support our own.
Overall it was a great time. Great viewing in a small venue with top notch players. Prices werent too bad either. The venue is nice as well.
