Mosconi Cup: Rankings

Just my opinion...I would go in a different direction. Give me SVB..Dechaine..Shuff...Archer....and Landon Shuffett. It might not work the first year...but if we keep rolling out the teams of the past...we have no chance.

Landon may be a bit young....but he's an outstanding kid who will probably be a perennial Mosconi cup member....lets start breaking him in.

Shuff...same as above with tons more experience.

Dechaine...Either him or Shane are the best American pool player.

JA....Absolute class act and great team leader. Who by the way still has a world class game.

Shane....his record and character speak for itself.

I like your team with the exception of Landon. It's just not his time yet. I think he should at least get a few "big" tournament wins under his belt first. He'll get his chance someday.

I'd like to see Hatch on the MC team. Not only does he play well under pressure, but he is an intimidating son-of-a-gun to say the least.

Top 2 in points automatic...last 3 up to Matchroom. I have no idea why Europe goes all 5 on points and diferent for US. Johnnyt

I know of Matchroom saying top 2 are guaranteed and the other three are wildcards but points do play a roll. Are they doing wildcards with european race too? They really should just keep it totally fair and just take top 5 for both teams, thats legit. Boom!! fair and square.

It is the same for both squads - top 2 on points and the remaining three players picked by Matchroom.

Usually this doesn't get that much discussion prior to the US Open until the top two are determined. Then the debate will start here over who the wildcard picks should be.

I'd go with Shane Van Boening, Mike Dechaine, and Brandon Shuff right off the bat. America's best player, and the two fastest emerging twenty-somethings in America. My next choice would be Hunter Lombardo, the only American player other than Shane playing the full international schedule. I probably round out the team with Shawn Putnam.

I think the need for veterans on the team is greatly overrated. Leadership should be provided by the coaches.

I think that, presently, Mike is as clear a #2 in American pool as Shane is #1.

In these three supertough field events on the 2012 American pool calendar, Mike performed as follows:

Derby City 9-ball: 3rd place
US Open 10-ball: 4th place (highest finishing American)
Turning Stone XIX: 1st Place

I'd hate to think that we'd even consider fielding a Mosconi Cup team without Mike Dechaine, a new shining superstar of American pool.

Did dechaine pay you to right that lol??? There is no clear cut number 2 American! I will say that he is within top 6 but from 2 thru 6 it's an absolute coin toss only thing that is definite is SVB is number 1! Yes mike is a great talent but no way is he number 2.

Really want Shuff to make it. He would be a very valuable asset to the team with his positive play and outlook on things... Go Shuff!!!! :thumbup2:

By the way Mike Dechaine is not going to be in China, he is going to be in the trick shot competition at the Wolf's Den in the Mohegan Sun Casino, part of the three day International Tournament of Champions.

First of all they schedule it the same time as the U.S. Open 9-Ball Championship, The ITC is scheduled for Oct. 23, 24, 25, that is why Mike is not playing in the U.S. Open. That is also the reason why Shane and I think Darren are having to fly up there for Oct. 23 and fly back back to Virginia to play in the open. I guess because the men play on Oct. 23 the first day and the trick shot portion is the last day Oct. 25 (Thurs). They just couldn't work around Mike's schedule that far into the Open.

Did they really have to schedule it at the same time as the biggest tournament in America and not only that but they don't even, 16 days before the event, have any mention of the men's event or the trick shot portion even mentioned on their web site. Here is what they have.

------------
Billiards
Tuesday, October 23rd - 3:00pm
Wednesday, October 24th - 3:00pm
Thursday, October 25th - 3:00pm

The Wolf Den

Champions from around the world will go head-to-head in a three-day extravaganza of professional billiards. The International Tournament of Champions presents the top women players in the world.
-----------

They were informed of this mistake a month ago. You'd think that the casino putting up the money for the event would at least advertise it correctly on their own web site, but then you'd also think they would have better sense than to schedule it conflicting with the U.S. Open 9-Ball Championship in the first place.
