..... etc

Tournaments to come; North Cyprus Open and US open

Plz guys, just normal discussion about this greatest events of all

The interesting thing I noticed was that Mike Dechaine has a reasonably large lead in second place. The interesting part is that if I remember correctly, he won't be playing the US Open, cuz he's gonna be in China doing something.

But he still should get in, by the looks of this. Turning Stone was a big deal, huh?

Hatch is right behind him. I hope Mike will be making big bucks in China because not going to the US Open might cost him. Mosconi Cup pays $7500 a man for the team loss and $15,000 for a team win, all free money, + whatever purse money he would have won at the Open. Johnnyt

It seems strange not see the name of Ralf Souquet on Europe`s list. He has been automatic for so many years.

Since I don't understand how points are awarded this year, what the chances that everyone behind him gets the 150-ish points necessary to pass him? Or is it just the top 2 via points, and the rest determined by the "captain" and/or Matchroom?

Top 2 in points automatic...last 3 up to Matchroom. I have no idea why Europe goes all 5 on points and diferent for US. Johnnyt

What I want to hear is NO CW as captain this year. If he goes I won't watch it again. There are plenty of hall of famers that could use the $7500 or more freebie. Race to 6 alt break doesn't need a coach. Get a name US fans can respect. Johnnyt

Does anyone really think that Johnny Archer will be passed over considering his great play this year?

I think that, presently, Mike is as clear a #2 in American pool as Shane is #1.

In these three supertough field events on the 2012 American pool calendar, Mike performed as follows:

Derby City 9-ball: 3rd place
US Open 10-ball: 4th place (highest finishing American)
Turning Stone XIX: 1st Place

I'd hate to think that we'd even consider fielding a Mosconi Cup team without Mike Dechaine, a new shining superstar of American pool.

Mark Wilson and Tony Robles are two people who are highly respected as both players and instructors, and each has played on a winning Mosconi Cup team. Either would make an ideal choice.

I also like both of those guys. I have always thought Hopkins would make a fine captain too.

IMO Archer and Souquet should be on the team even if they are not that high in rankings. They got huge experience and they have both helped their teams in the past 2-3 years tremendously.

P.S. It is "Ekonomopoulos" ;) (not -poulus)

Because that's the way Matchroom wants it? I don't know either as who goes and why does change from time to time. Melling was stellar last year.

Well said. Mike is playing fantastic. I just wish less people had an ax to grind about Mike.

R.S. is currently numer 8? in the list, with 2 more upcoming events.

sorry for the missspelling of our greek friend, just too many... letters :D

and MC without souquet or archer? i doubt it

just did a quick research;

souquet and feijen are nr 10 and 11 of the list, 12 and 14 pts behind.

with ortmann, the euros have a very experienced player who played a great season so far. (very good results in the last tournaments in and around germany).

id love to see deuel play for the us team. hes about 50 pts behind, so he needs a good us open result.

im so happy that im home this year, buy a stream, get some beer n chips and watch with friends

Brandon Shuff has worked very hard!!!!

He is in the top 5 and based on my read of this thread some AZBilliards members are "COOL" with cheating him out of a slot on the Mosconi Cup Team and in favor of using some other metric or gauge for deciding the team members. Having seen this young man grow up and to watch the ways in which this appears to be manipulated is very troubling!!!

I know of Matchroom saying top 2 are guaranteed and the other three are wildcards but points do play a roll. Are they doing wildcards with european race too? They really should just keep it totally fair and just take top 5 for both teams, thats legit. Boom!! fair and square.
