Thanks to a little help from our friends (Mark Grifin and the BCA Pool Leagues) TheActionReport is at the Mosconi Cup. Chad unfortunately has a real life so he had to stay in Sioux Falls and do the work thing. I on the other hand being a complete pool vagabond was able able to make the trip.

I arrived in Vegas and made way through the cluster that is McCarran airport. Bill Stock of the BCA was kind enough to meet me at the airport and help me escape from the madness. We drove back to the BCAPL National office and he showed me around a little bit. If you are a pool Junkie this place is pretty cool. BCA event posters and pool memorabilia line the walls.

This is Zeenath, one of the BCAPL office staff. Not only is she pretty she also has quite possibly the most unique name I have ever heard.

Here is the warehouse section of the building. Usually it is filled with tables but they are all on the road right now. I am trying to get the story behind those racks that strung up in the air. Maybe they are there as warning to the other rebelious racks?

Here is a few pictures of Mark Griffins little pool library. Those tan books are the limited edition versions of Winning One Pocket and the Shots and Moves book. Don't see those every day. The poster in the bottom center is from the 1987 Glass City Open, that happened to be where Mark Griffin and Greg Sullivan met.

There is so much cool stuff all over the place that is fun just to walk around and look. An example is what is in these boxes. I have been sworn to secrecy. Let's just say if you are a pool geek, you would lose your mind.:D

Later that night I went with to Pool Sharks and was very fortunate to meet "Champagne" Ed Kelly. He was very gracious and polite and sat and answered all my questions. I wish I had that conversation on video, it was really informative and entertaining hearing his opinions on everything from one pocket to the champions of today.

After Pool Sharks I headed to the Las Vegas Cue Club. There was a $15 handicapped tournament going on.

Imagine my surprise when I see this guy playing in it.

Yup, thats right. The current U.S. Open and World 10 Ball Champion, Mosconi Cup team member Shane (never met a tournament he didn't like) Van Boening. :D

Shane got knocked out when the guy he was playing snapped the 7 on the hill. That had to be pretty cool for that guy. Just goes to show how much Shane really loves the game. SVB was not the only player of note in the room. His road dog Adam Behnke was in the tournament as well. Adam is from Iowa and has been making the rounds lately on the tournament trail. He is a solid player and a very cool young man. If the future of pool looks like these two guys then we are gonna be alright.

I took off about midnight and went and crashed. Today I am gonna hook up with some people and just see what I can get into. :D The Cup starts tomorrow at the MGM and I will be there to sweat it. I will be shooting pictures and I'll be sure to post another update when something interesting happens.

I think those are like the tennis ball in a normal garage, to let the truck driver know when he has cleared the door with the back of the truck.

Good idea, but that isn't it. I got the story from Ric Jones. It seems that usually there is a table under that spot that the racks are hanging from. They use the rope to hang the light and they use the racks to hold the rope when a light is not there. Makes sense.

It's easy. Just get rid of everything you own that does not fit in your car, make a million contacts, and do everything for free. :D :D :D

I liked your style of reporting.You are sounding like you were standing next to us and casually talking.when i was reading your report I did not feel that I was reading a message board.Keep the info coming.

I live here in Vegas and the european team has been training for the last wo days at pool sharks. I must say the US Team has their work cut out for them. Feijen and Stepinov are looking real strong. And their coach had them doing just drills yesterday from 11am to about 3 or 4. Rodney Morris also was in last night practicing for a few. It was inspiring to watch the europeans run those drills and how they are really doing this as a team. Not to say the US isn't because I haven't seen them. I heard shane was at cue club tho. Looking forward to seeing him play.
 
Anyone notice that the Mosconi Cup team looks like a Who's Who of recent SVB victims? Corey & Earl both got barbequed in their Action Challenges and just recently Shane double-dipped Johnny. I hope this doesn't cause any conflict on the team!
 
i doubt it will if anything i think it will bolster the team. there'll probably be a bit of banter going on between them all.

Are those offices the BCA League? What a great place to work!

I went to the dinner last night. Speeches, intros etc. I got asked to do commentary for the matches. I found out Jimmy Wyche and Rob Sykora recommended me.

The tone in the room is that the USA is a big favorite on paper. But they have to translate that to the table. The European squad look relaxed and loose to me. The USA guys know they are supposed to win, so they have more pressure.

Earl, Shane and Corey were working on the best way to break last night. It's so important in an alternate break format. Earl is a genius when it comes to figuring out the best break shot. I just sat there and listened to him explain things, while Corey tried different breaks and Shane racked. Very interesting dialogue between the three. You can tell they want to win this thing. Earl is motivated and that's a good thing.

Gotta go do my thing. Later gang.

Don't worry; the members of team Europe will be joining that club soon. :D

I doubt it. Who could "stay mad" at Shane? Losses are so much easier to swallow when your opponent is a gentleman. :)
