Mosconi Cup Unpicked Players Bail Out

You must have been watching something different than I was this past year and especially the past couple of months. However, it is irrelevant. The picks have been made and short of death, serious illness or serious family issues, the 5 are the 5. Time to quit all the crap and get on board with Team USA.
The point is not about getting on board. Thread is about whether or not the 3 acted appropriately!

The actions of the coach and lack of a merit based selection process is of great relevance to the topic of this thread/witch hunt!

People continue to derail the debate with silly stuff that takes us off topic.

To be honest deputy dog could have been selected or earned the spot. I continue to lobby for the best players representing my country and not some arbitrary popularity contest. A truly deserving candidate. If that is to much to ask I apologize in advance

Witch hunt is right KD, so please leave your broom at the door. This was most certainly NOT a popularity contest. Mark had good reasons for the selections he made for the final five players, and he made them based on many factors. Most of all he wanted to put together the most cohesive team possible and I think he's done that. If they get their asses handed to them over in England, I will agree that something didn't work here. Until then I will continue to support Mark and Team USA. Your apology is accepted!

You directed your comments at Justin and I responded to that. I thought your comments were also in bad taste, and had little bearing on what actually went into Mark's selection process. Corey has played well this year and had a good showing at the U.S. Open. John is a thoroughbred and I fully expect him to rise to the occasion. I think Mark opted for experience first (Shane, John and Corey) and youth second (both Justin's). I like the make-up of this team and we will all have to wait and see how they fare against a very strong European team.
My comment was never at Justin Bergman. It was at the hypocrisy of this forum.

I point to the guys refusing charity being lynched on here while four recipients never had to compete/risk losing their spot to another competitor for showing them up in round Robin or head to head play. In essence, the four received charity!

So you mean they should have done it your way. Well, when you get to be Captain maybe they will. Until then Mark gets to make the decisions on how the players are selected.

Why so combative?

Again topic is did they act appropriately?

With that in mind, the topics I mentioned and touched on are relevant.

My preference and dislikes are irrelevant but several members here want to make that the topic when it is clearly not the topic of discussion.

Good for you!

Each year, I root for the hometeam: Hail to the Redskins! There hasn't been a winning Redskins team in a very long time. They keep coming back, though, each year with a new team concept, hoping to find the magic formula.

I don't know what happened behind the scenes, other than 10 percent of everyone's payday was going to be devoted to the three players who didn't make the team. It could be that all parties involved didn't like this deal. That's on them, not us on this forum.

It doesn't matter too much, though. I really believe this will be the last Mosconi Cup. Matchroom Sport and Skybox won't waste their money and effort on USA. If the players don't care, neither do it. Life goes on . . .

Shut down the most popular pool event on both sides of the pond? I can't see it. Europeans, at least, love the Mosconi Cup, as well as Americans. Matchroom will only shut it down when it stops making them money. Not because of a few players who were viewed (unjustly IMO) as being unpatriotic, and not being team players? Naw.... I can't see it. As Justin said earlier....Mark Wilson nor any of the players have a problem with it...why does anyone else?

The young gun players do care. The old guard through the sport under the bus.

If matchroom/sky sports walks away it will be due to something other than the actions of these three.

These 5 need to show well and save face for the USA! Its a lot more pressure on USA then Europe.

This thread is just brutal. I too route for the home team. Shuff is home team for me. To see him treated this way is rough.

Exactly. This is not like a job or the process like a job interview as some have alluded.

This is closer to the Olympics. A chance to represent your country and support your team mates. From some of the posts in this thread I'm thinking that that's too lofty a concept for some to grasp.

Lou Figueroa

what?

the olympic team members are the guys and gals who proved they could jump the longest and run the fastest and lift the most weight - that's who makes the olympic team.

It's a slightly different method for Mosconi Cup.

But, but... I do know.

The funniest part of this whole thread is Lou talking about "a man's word". Mr. PR man himself. lol!

Second funniest thing has to be the notion that this could be the final straw that ends the cup.

This place is a riot.

What a non-issue. It will never cease to amaze me what a big deal people on here make over every little detail of an exhibition match whose sole purpose is to make Barry Hearn money.

Yes, of course you are right. Instead of being interested in a pool event we should all done an NFL jersey and make some billionaire owner a little richer.

heck, lets build them
a stadium while we're at it

Just taking a wild stab here, but I'm guessing you have zero clue about good PR, because good PR is always about the truth.

PR lesson over

I must have missed it where Justin said MW was OK with it.
