Mosconi Team USA Wildcard thoughts

Rodney for sure, I really wanted Oscar to make the team, he is a great person and great shot and sitting 5th in points, but Justin Bergman performed so well last year I couldn't keep him off the team.

The next players on the points list. They played the best and played in the events with points because they wanted to make the team.

Taking anyone else you are either taking someone who actively chose not to commit themselves to the sport this year by playing in the events, or someone who shot terrible in the points events and has proven they are not ready for the MC.

Yes, by my calculations, SVB finished first in Mosconi Ranking points, Dechaine 2nd, Woodward 3rd.

As for the wild cards, any two of Rodney Morris, Josh Roberts, Justin Bergman, and Oscar Dominguez will do for me.

Much wisdom here. It would be tough to argue with Mark Wilson if he does it this way, just as he did last year.

I agree with this. Really whoever is really ready and hungry to compete and tired of getting beat by the Europeans. Woodward played so well as a newb last year, although at home, that I really wouldn't mind Roberts playing. He has played well the last several months, and there is a history of mosconi cup rookie performing well (Boyes, Woodward, Bergman)

Seems for certain Rodney will make the team given his 4th place points standing, and his coming retirement as a professional pool player.

I'm with you hoping Oscar is selected for the same reasons. Doubt he will have the time to attend enough events in the future after getting married to Desiree in the next few weeks. He has already stated he will be scaling back the Mezz West Tour next year to roughly 10 events due to he and Desiree wanting to start a family soon, and not wanting to be on the road every weekend.

Good points.

I have been watching Josh for two years and he really plays the game right and works on his game all the time. He also has a great attitude and would be a good addition to the team concept.

I don't think that he our Oscar play better then Rodney, but I do think its time for some new energy on the team.

2016

I'm going along with the majority here:

I think 3 tigers with some teeth and 2 new(er) players make good hunger for the team. A win here would be a great foundation for the future US Teams.

Why didn't Justin Bergman play last week oversees like the others that were on the fence? He could have played his way in. One reason may have been that Mark already told him he was on the team ? No need to spend the money ? Yes,no, maybe!
Go off the list like last year Rodney and Oscar ! Lots of World wide experience . USA WON THE Mosconi Cup last time Oscar played on the team.

Morris is not my favorite player by any stretch, but if anyone earned it this year he did, and he would be an excellent pairing with Van Boening, Dechaine, or Woodward. It is really hard to see leaving him off the squad.

The fifth one, I really want to have Oscar back on the team, but Oscar isn't who the team needs. What team USA needs for this last player is a floor general to help the guys stay focused and in the moment during the cup when Captain Wilson has to be in the stands. In the past, this role often fell to Archer or Varner.

Shane is an amazing player and a great guy, but he isn't a leader. You don't necessarily rally around Shane, but that also isn't Shane's role. Mike and Rodney are the heart and soul of American Pool, but they also are not leaders. They are meant to bring the fire, but someone in addition to Mark Wilson has to be able to help focus that fire when appropriate. Woodward is a class act, but is also soft spoken like Shane. He's a deadly assassin on the table, but not quite yet in a spot to become a leader due to experience and age.

I don't have a particular player in mind honestly for the fifth spot, but the above mentioned quality of a floor general is the top quality I'm looking for in that player.

Well?

You have some good points and that might be the reason that America wont win for a long time unless something really changes or they get very lucky.

I could SEE leaving him off the team!!! He could through the team "Under the Bus" again with Stan James if my memory serves me correct.

The points are to secure a spot in the top 3, after that points have zero meaning
