Most balls made in a 9-ball break

I think, subject to check, that Alex Pagulayan made 7 balls on the break in 9-ball at the BCA Open 2 years ago, and it was televised. He was playing against Santos. Incredibly, poor Alex was left snookered after the break and didn't run out, resulting in Santos winning that game.

And who can forget Danny Harriman's magnificant break at the ESPN Zone which was televised, the 7-ball challenge. He made 6 balls on the break playing 7-ball, which was phenomenal and quite exciting!

At the 2004 Carolinas Open, Shannon Daulton was practicing before the semi-finals, and the only thing he practiced was his break. He would rack the balls, break 'em, re-rack 'em, and break again, over and over, trying to find the "sweet spot."

Many times when I'm attending a tournament, I overhear players trading breaking strategies. There are sometimes restrictions on breaking, like having to do it from the box or "breaking from the 'D,'" as some call it. At the Joss event at the Turning Stone Casino last August, I was listening intently as Danny Basavich was giving some friendly advice to another player that he was "cut-breaking" with success on that equipment.

I wonder, has anybody ever made all 9 balls on the 9-ball break?! :p

I once saw a guy make one solid and five stripes on the break in 8-ball. It was during the ACUI regional tournament in Fort Collins, Colorado back in 1989 or thereabouts. The guy's name was Paul Baker (who incidentally owns the first Black Boar ever shipped)... Of course he was hooked and ended up losing the game. I just remember salivating at the site of those two lonely stripes sitting out there on the table....

I think my best 9-ball break was 5 balls during a bar-box ring game. All of the bystanders stood by with their mouths agape until one finally said: "You got a lot of balls to drop, but I don't know how... You hit that slower than my Grandma!" And he was right! It was a strange break.

Five on a babrbox in an APA style tournament. Had the easy 4 ball run out with it.

Every serious player I know who breaks hard has made 6 on the break at least once and five a number of times. They all have stories about being hooked afterwards.

I've made five on the break at least 20 times but 6 only twice and never seven. I've never seen seven balls made in person but trust stories about it happening. Usually got a shot after the 5's but not always. Most tables I play on have pretty big pockets so its not that big a deal for 4 or 5 to go in.

I've never heard about any pro tournement where someone made 8 or 9 balls on a nine ball break.

I made 5 on the break one time. Never more than 3 in a tournament. Tiffany Nelson broke in 4 on me when she was on the hill. She has the best break of any woman I have ever played.

I'd like to know what is the most balls you have ever made on a 9 ball break. I've made 6 on the snap twice, 4X8 with single shim pockets.

Hey cuenut if you want to see a video of a guy making all 9 balls on a 9ball break go on raven custom cue site they have a video of it on there!!!!

i saw sam monday make 7 balls on the break in athens, ga. on a 4x8 table. he was hooked behind the 9 ball and the 7 ball was too close to the pocket for a push. this was against stevie moore. also, i saw keith bennett make 7 balls on the break playing the 12 ball ghost too.....pretty impressive.

Bobby Pickle

My personal high is six, however, Bobby Pickle once told me a couple of years ago at the Music City Open that five or six years ago he made all nine balls on the break on a bar table. This is the only instance I have ever heard of this occurring. I was also playing a guy $200 sets several years ago and we had started over and doubled up a couple of times. We got hill-hill the last set and decided to play it out. He made seven balls on the break and had the four and nine both laying in the jaws. I decided to quit for the night.

I have heard that about Bobby Pickle before. I think Gabe told me about it.
Personaly, I have made 6 a couple of times.
About three years ago I played some guy from Arkansas a race to 9 for $1000 and made it on the snap 7 times and ended up winning the set,,,,,,, on the hill. The table had just been recovered and I was breaking from the middle at about 80%.
Also, when I was on the road with Danny Medina, he made 6 on the break twice in a row and 7 the 3rd rack. On the 4th he made 5 and broke the light against Rapheal.

I have personally seen a friend of mine who is a APA 4, make 6 on the break in 9ball, on a 7ft.

I myself on a 7ft the most i have made is 5, a couple times, and i know several times, i got hooked cuz the CB would get locked up, or end up behind a ball.

On a 9ft, i have made 5 i think 2 or 3times. and was out everytime lol.

The funny thing about when i was on the 9ft tables was, i seemed to happen when i didnt get what i thought was a good break, i was doing more of a semi soft break and would squat the CB but make a bunch of balls on the break, go figure.

> My record is 6,maybe 15 times in 15 years,on all 3 normal table sizes, including a few playing bar table 8-ball. The most I've seen was 7,by Cliff Joyner. He was hooked, but was able to push out for a jump shot, which his opponent,Danny Cook, made, and backed it up with a 5 bagger to run out the set. I've seen 6 made and 2 jumped off the table, the only 2 balls left were the cue ball and the 9,which hung in the side. As far as 9-balls made on the break,a friend and I met up with a couple guys at a pool room in Murray,Ky,who led us to a 7 foot Brunswick in the lobby of their dorm building. This table actually played pretty decent for a table that was so rarely maintained. You actually had to rack the balls a little low or high on the spot,or turn the rack a little one way or the other because as long as you hit the 1 ball solid enough to not hit a rail, with anything more than 10 MPH speed the 9 could not be stopped,it went EVERY time. This was not rigged up either, the table wasn't unreasonably level, and there was no groove the 9 rode in to the pocket, nothing out of the ordninary. We spent 3-4 hours looking at it from every conceivable angle, and came to the conclusion the ball set was on the light side, and a kiss that takes place inside the rack that wouldn't be possible with heavier balls,is what caused it. These guys had NO idea what they had at their disposal, they had asked me and Jeff if we wanted to see a table where the 9 went every time, instead of trying to use it to trap us. Tommy D.

every time

i have made 7 seen 7 a few different times. and evertime its an objrct and the 9.everytime. i made 7 and was behind the 9 to hit the 2. good friend of mine made 6 and was behind the 9 for the 3. everytime!!!!!

What? All this reading and NO 10's? Oh, well I guess you wouldn't want to talk about that cause I think it would be loss of game.:D

This is Ironman's partner, Rerun.

I've had one 6 and a couple of 5's. Years ago, at Cassidy's in Houston, I saw Alanta Danny Greer make 6 balls, all in the same pocket. It looked like the balls were trying to crawl over each other to get into the pocket. By the way, he was hooked by the 9 ball with 3 balls left on the table.

I just saw that video of the guy making every ball. Someone posted it last week. It looks legit. You can watch it frame by frame and see what happens to every ball. If you look closely he doesn't hit the 1 ball square.

Except if you pause it right after impact and count the balls, there are only 8 object balls and the cue ball. One of them that was in the rack just disappears. It is faked.

I myself have made seven one time on a nine footer and six a few times on a bar box, but I saw a guy make 8 on an 8' medalist......the one was hanging in the side pocket.

implications for technique

These ball counts are impressive, but are there implications for technique or do we just read & drool?
