Most Powerful Stroke...Deuel?

Most seemed to agree that Larry Nevel has the most powerful stroke, but after I saw a shot Corey just pulled off against Mika on BCN, I think Corey has the most powerful stroke in the world. For those of you who haven't seen it, he does this:

START(
%DN4P9%Er0L2%Pp1N7%WC7[2%XN3P8%YN9P8%Zo9N7%[r5X5%\m6Z9%eC0b6
%_N6D5%`N3J2%aN5P1%bm4Z7%cV1Q6%dN6C5
)END

I nearly fell out of my chair!!!

I saw him do a draw shot similar to that one on ESPN or somewhere on TV. I was like, "Did I just see him do that?"

> Corey has a shitload of power, but Larry is untouchable in this category, except for maybe Mike Massey. I have seen Larry do this one several times, and makes peoples heads blow up.

> Yes,the cue ball is frozen to the rail, and he draws with low left and hits rail first. The shot Hal refers to is the shot from the Mosconi Cup. Corey shoots almost the same shot but draws back to the end rail first. Tommy D.

Corey can do this shot, and there is another shot similar to this where the cueball is frozen on the rail that Corey claims to be able to execute like 7 out of 10 times. I don't remember how the shot went, but it was something similar to what you diagrammed. If Corey can do that too, then he is at LEAST on par with Larry.

Those guys must have such phenomenal control of their strokes with extreme spins/speeds. Incredible.

Now how do you learn something like that? Go over the limits in practice and allow (quite) a few miscues or slowly build up from easier to tougher draws?

It has to be the first method...and I can't imagine practicing this in a public pool hall!!!

The first step to having a powerful stroke is having a very straight one, the rest is all feel and execution.

Cory strokes completely through the ball. These shots are not as difficult as some think. If you have ever played on brand new (month old or less) 860 or 760 you will notice substantial action can be achieved.

Stroking straight through the ball will enable much more english to take effect. Players, for example, that can not draw the complete length of the table will have difficulty with this. (Draw is not using the wrist to snap the ball, it is a complete follow through shot and the only reason to bring the butt back is to avoid the cue ball hitting the tip again.)

I would imagine that the stroke developed on it's own, when they realized they had it, they started doing things like this. (As opposed to deliberately working on it)

As far as this shot LastTwo posted of Corey's. WOW!! I've tried similar only with the cue ball at a little less of an angle. But for me to get the cue to the side rail I've got hit it softer so the draw takes better. LastTwo, how hard does he hit this to make this shot?

U hit it right on the head last2 ..He does have a great stroke .But i feel there a lot of other players on the tour that have great strokes, Jhonny Archer.I feel he has the cleanest stoke .I got to see that in Jax FLA.. But u need to have a good one to beat some of thoes guy ...
jus my 2 cents..

Nevel is a beast, Corey has power but not like Larry. Massey has unlimited power but not like he once did. I remember watching Davenport play Mizerak at the US Open in 88-89 and sayin to myself, man this guy has some power too. Kim seem to have hit 75% of the shots at rocket speed!!

I can come close to making this shot with the cue ball on the spot. I can't imagine having the stroke to do it with the cue ball on the rail. I get about halfway to the pocket on slow cloth. I'm sure I could do it on simonis. My shot looks like this:
START(
%EK8Z6%Pg4O6%Ur4U5%VW2D1%WM9[0%Xf1P1%YD9Z7%ZJ5Z6%[o6Z8%\r2V5

You started a similar thread previously. Maybe you missed this post?

Nevel and Deueul Power Stroking

And incidentally, I'm a nobody, but this is what I posted a few moons ago. Check out the first shot.

My Best Shot Ever

Corey and Niels have told me that they feel Larry has the most powerfull stroke.

Thats why they told ya that Larry nevel has the most powerfull stroke hands down. I tell ya this from watching him play in the pool hall draw the ball 10 rails or more. NO shit!!! I said 10 or more....

Actually your diagram is quite a bit off with the CB position. The shot was closer to the image below:

btw: The shot is probably 20mph. A speed most players are capable of. Just most wouldn't be game to try this shot. Almost any decent player can make this exact same shot. The unusual curve after the rail is simply due to the fast cloth. Most tables the curve will come before it hits the side rail.

I could play the same shot and I could play it 20% harder, as I believe Cory could. It is not proof of super power...just a lovely power shot.

My guess is, that the most rails anyone has ever hit of a draw shot. (Lets define that as a shot where the CB comes back close to straight on the same line) is perhaps 7 rails using a pattern similar to the one below.

10 rails I don't believe...you were messin' right?

7 is the most I've seen. And, that was Massey in his prime. Sorry, I don't believe 10. I do believe in punctuation, though! :p :D
