Most racks ever run on a Valley bar box

I'll be seeing Dave (Matlock) tonight. I'll just ask him. He has a great memory believe it or not.

I'll post what he says late tonight, or in the morning.

I always heard that Dennis Searing ran a large number of racks in a row playing 8 ball on a bar table -- double digits but don't remember the exact amount. Maybe someone can ask him.

18 racks on a 4 x 8 tulsa Moose lodge international tournament around 1989. 6 consecutive matches 3 games each on elimination day

Hope you pass the RKC lie detector test!

If the break is working high runs are possible. There's no tough shots on a barbox. Shoot all night and never miss a makable shot.

That is Mr. Searings run not mine. Think I have a 5 in 8 ball(never played it much)and a few 7's in 9 ball

Thanks Jason - I knew it was many.

I talked to Dennis about it a few years back at the BCAPL when he used to play in the event but forgot what the total was.

Make sure you do post back. I would like to know what he says. I dont know Dave but I first heard of him around 1993 I think it was. Shooters is only about 40 minutes from me so I will have to make it out there soon.

Out of curiosity, what was the break and run percentage for Dennis and Mike D respectively?

I was there for the finals and it felt like whoever got the first shot after the break ran out in all but one game. Pure offense and running many tough racks. Mike lost because he broke dry a couple times.

In the finals of the 2015 US Open 8-Ball Championship (won 11-9 by Orcollo), neither player had a second inning in any of the 20 games. 15 of the 20 games were won by the player at the table after the break -- 11 on B&R's and 4 by the non-breaker following dry breaks. The breaker failed to run out 5 times after successful breaks (2 misses and 3 fouls), and the non-breaker ran out after each of those misses or fouls.

For all 17 streamed matches in that event, 87% (203 of 233) of the games ended in one inning -- 52% won by the breaker (B&R) and 36% won by the non-breaker. 75% (174 of 233) of the games were run out by the player who was at the table following the break.

Orcollo's B&R percentage was 60% in the finals (6 of 10) and 50% (21 of 42) for all 6 of his matches that were shown on the stream. Dechaine appeared on stream in only 2 matches. He broke and ran 5 of 10 in the finals and 3 of 8 in his other streamed match.

As to dry breaks in the finals, Orcollo had 1 and Dechaine had 3.

Looks like the best players in the world today would need a spot to play all those in the past....that have claims to running 15, 18, 20+ racks in a row....yep, pool is on the down hill slide for sure....even the Pro's today can't match up to the players everyone claims that can run racks from Sunday through Saturday without missing a ball:rolleyes:

Biggest package (of the normal type) in the streamed matches for that event was 1 -- it was alternating breaks.

Biggest alternate-break package (B&R's on a player's own successive breaks) in the streamed matches for that event was 6 (by Shaw). Alternate-break 5-packs were accomplished 3 times (1 by Robles and 2 by Orcollo).

I don't know what the recording is, but I'm pretty sure that whoever holds it has to be a poster here on AZ.

A lot of stone cold killers here! :)

I'd be curious on some barbox monsters like Jesse Bowman and even going back old school Mr. Don McCaughey on what their best run is.

Jarvis and Smith were the 2 largest gambling packages I've ever been around on a Valley.

This was when the Bowery was around.

I have a Gold Crown with 4 1/2" pockets and a standard 7' Valley, both at home in my basement. I can break and run 8 ball on the Valley much easier then the GC. Same with playing the 9 ball ghost, I can beat him on the Valley but not the GC..............yet.
Some just won't believe that! lol Nice set up btw.

Yeah today's Pros are weak lol
I know Smokin' Aces is on Valley BB's.
Haven't seen anyone run out a set yet.
Wait how many racks did Arizona or New York run again?

I have ran 11 racks in a row on a 7 foot valley 8 ball...15 racks in a row of 9 ball on a 7 foot valley.

All in the one weekend. I never got close to that again, about half.

Well, Glen, you might be my favorite billiard mechanic...but you're 'apples and oranges' here.
You're talking about how pros play in tournament....
...these high runs are LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENTS....that's once in a lifetime.
....usually these things happen in a session where you have time to get momentum...
...NOT the hundred yard dash conditions of a tournament match.

I watched a man who I gave the 5-6-7-8 to at 9-ball...and won...run a 6-pack at 9-ball.

I gave a friend a snooker cue once...he ran a 147 with it...I also watched him lose his money getting a 50 point start from a top amateur....in the same month.

Willie Thorne has had well over 100 maximums....ONE in a tournament.
Cliff Thorburn had 54 maximums when he turned 54...one or two in tournaments.
Jimmy White's chauffeur ran four centuries in a row...in front of a bunch of pros...
...didn't play well enough to get his pro ticket.

I had a hole in one at golf when I was 17....haven't had one since.

These figures are the highlights of people's careers....
...don't try and make them like somebody's average day.

I just know, as pool players....non Pro's, get older, it seems as their game gets worse, their memories get better...."I may not be able to run a rack today, but when I was younger, I practiced for a month....and my game go so good....I once ran 18 racks of 8 ball on a Valley bar box"....yeah, OK. Excuse me if I don't buy into all this bullshit, I've been playing pool for almost 50 years now, and I would be willing to bet that if someone laid claims to such high rack runs....that today, they could still run at least 2 racks in a row at will.;)

Hey...I put myself through grade 4 hustlin" pool.

Maybe 10 years ago, Jesse told me he ran 11 if I remember correctly. Best part was he said he lost the set. :frown:

Believe it or not, back in the 80's, when McDermott cues came out with their D line of cues, they signed Mike Massey to play with a D26' cue. Mike was a trick shot artist way back then, but was also competing in pool tournaments as well. In one of the tournaments he competed in...he was also credited with running a 13 pack playing 9 ball, on 9ft Gold Crowns, but never won a major tournament....that's strong in my book!

You're more than welcome to bet Searing can't still run 2 racks of 8 ball - you can bust me.

There's millions of people that have played 10, 20, 30 40, 50 years that have never even run 3 racks - doesn't mean other people can't do it.

For example, how many pool table mechanics have been working for years and are still hacks? Yet, you, Mark, Ernesto have risin to the top way beyond what they are capable of.
