Moving slate down stairs (alone)

No disrespect or anything, but wouldn't it have been a lot easier and quicker to just grab it with your buddy and take it down??? That straight stairway looks pretty easy. lol
You need to start from the beginning . The slate is heavy. Very Heavy. My helper was not looking forward to carrying down 3 more pieces of slate.

This went much easier then carrying them down the last time.

I know its heavy, I do it everyday. Good on you for solving the problem tho. Enjoy the new toy!

You beat me to it. However, I can see where it would be useful for guys with back problems who can't carry it all the way down, or for guys who just wanna say they built it! It is kinda cool! ;)

Anyone remember what those forearm straps are called that they show on tv? You know, the ones that make it super easy to lift refrigerators and stuff... I wonder if there would be a way to use those on a piece of slate? Probably would be the same deal...by the time you wrap them around and set it up, it would probably be easier to just pick it up. Then there's the problem of picking it up from flat on the truck and turning it down onto the table. Just curious about them, but probably not worth it. LOL

The slate came from -4 outside into room temp. Instantly the slate started to condensate. You can see the darkness of the slate from the condensation.
You Got the slate wet, did you? You good looking, innovative stud of a table mechanic, you!

Not a bad idea, I get tired of carrying it too. Any thoughts on an easier way to get it up the steps?

Manpower,JOBCorps, work force center......lmao You said easier, just not on who! lol

Or you can borrow my helper (permanently)...he never shuts up , but he can lift heavy things!

Back to the pictures part of this here thread..... how long did it take you to set it up and take the slate out for the next run? I like the idea, but if you get a dolly/hand truck with aired up tires, and get an extention with a channel welded onto the front of it, same results and one person can still handle most of it.
But, you may be onto something!

Try a dolly with wheels saves the back less damage to the stair treads.

If you want a fancy one buy a $30 dolly weld 4" u channel on it works great.

THe $500 option ...http://www.slatedollyusa.com/

Remember its only around 300lbs.

I use this little slider, have one for cement and old woods stairs, a clean one with no marks for carpets. Have the slate almost half way over step and then slip under and take her down. Of course you should probably be bigger than the slate, just lean into it.

thanks John
