Hello Ray,

Raleigh area has a fairly vibrant pool scene. I personally shoot @ Buck's Billiards which has GC-IV's and is a comfortable environment. About 20 minutes out is another nice room with Diamonds, On The Snap. Brown's in North Raleigh also has GC -IV's and one Diamond. Brass Tap, also in Raleigh, has GC-IV's (and perhaps some older models) and is an old-school action room. High House Billiards in Cary has GC-V's but is poorly configured; that is, too many tables for the square footage.
Weekly 9-ball tournaments on Thursday and Friday nights @ Brass Tap. GSBT will host some events in the general area and the Jacoby Carolina Tour has fairly frequent offerings.
Let me know once you get settled and perhaps we can "knock some around."

I don't know much about Raleigh other than that I have heard that it has some really nice rooms. Raleigh, Greensboro, Hickory and Charlotte have great pool and some towns in between as well like Mooresville which hosts 150 n Out.

You mention Charlotte would you know anything about the weather compared to Florida.

Summers are hot and humid. No where near the amount of rain, however, as Florida though. Been here 14 years; before that Kansas City, San Jose, Atlanta, Southern Indiana, Louisville....

How did Raleigh get so ^%$#* lucky?

..there's lots of cities would love to have you

Ghostball we would be real glad to have you move into North Carolina and we have a few hot months and less humidity than Florida for sure, the tables don't play anywhere near as wet here. I have spent summers in Fernandino Beach Fla. during the 60's and 70's and have lived 8 miles from Charlotte NC for all 53 years.Good luck Ray--Leonard

I lived in Chapel Hill for ten years and still have a home there, although I live near Chicago now. After living in Mass, Cali, Ill, Fla, Nove Scotia, and a few other places I'll retire to my home in Chapel Hill. Raleigh being part of the RTP area is one of the best places to live and work in the country. Real Estate values have gone up in that area consistently including the recent times. In RTP itself are some of the major companies in the world which is why it was developed in the first place. There are so many good things about Raleigh and the area nearby it's hard to list them all. NC State, Duke, UNC, & Wake Forest are all close. They have given that area one of the highest percentages of PHD's per capita in the world.. Golf is fantastic and there are so many courses that the cost is kept low due to competition plus you can play at least ten months a year. Pool in Raleigh means one place for me The Brass Tap!

Ray Martin is leaving Largo? I can only guess that you finally got sick and tired of all of those orange barrels in the road.

;)

Good people

I grew up in that general area.Lot's of good folks there .When I come to NC to visit my mom . I want to hit you up for a lesson.I always said I would when I made it to florida but NC is alot better .Doug Ennis with the Jacoby tour puts on a pro am every year and I am sure he would love to have you there or at any of his stops for that matter.

What kind of info do you want Mr. Martin? There are plenty of pool rooms in the area along with great areas to live. Its a short drive to the coast and and comfortable drive to the mountains. And the people are as friendly as will find anywhere. Oh , and NC barbeque is tops.

Halfback !!

Ray , you're making a decision that many Jersey boys made AFTER retiring to Florida ~ to move to North Carolina instead . In fact , it's so common that we've given these guys a name ~ HALFBACKS~ cuz they moved halfway back to Jersey !
Like yourself , I (semi)retired to Florida from Jersey . Been here since '91 . Ain't going nowhere.
But I have family in Carrboro , Winston-Salem , and Charlotte (yep , they're halfbacks!) and their summers are both shorter and milder than our Florida summers .

And I don't know WHAT Gunzby is talking about , but I'd be willing to bet him (literally , how bout a buck a day?) that from May 1st to September 30th Florida has both higher heat AND humidity . . . (as measured where Ray lives in Largo , or where I live in Daytona)

Whatever you decide , good luck with the move !

Florida us definitely hotter, but I still say NC is more humid. My grandmother lives in Daytona and I wouldn't say it's more humid there than where I am, but it certainly us hotter. I live in the foothills and during summer it's around 60-70% during the day and gets up over 90% at night. This summer has been pretty mild to me luckily.
