Hi,

Here is some very special museum grade wood from Southeast Asia for an upcoming cue being designed by Chrippa. Chris purchased this wood and shipped to my shop and it blew my mind when I was able to see the multiple sick grain patterns!

He is definitely reaching for the highest apple on the tree using this wood. I am very happy to be going along for the ride.

The 3 squares rested for five years and have acclimated to my shop environment for many months. I just doweled them, turned them down then cut & sanded the 24" one to catch a view of the figure in rod form.

Xylay Lace

I can't wait to see this stuff under the clear coat.

:), guess we got a winner, or a few to be exact:). You "never" know how wood will turn out before turning it, idea yes but never certain. This will be some beautiful cues. I have some ideas popping up of course. Rick want´s to be challenged real good so I´m going back and fourth with them.

If anyone have some ideas please feel free to give them.

I'm assuming those are shaft wood? :D
Would love to see what you have planned for this piece of beauty!

Jive,

It is funny that you mention the shaft thing as a joke.

A lot of times high figured wood is not that stable and can be problematic as opposed to wood suitable for shafts.

This high figured wood is very stable and surprisingly dense and not as fragile as I thought it would be. It is strong and machines like rosewood but has a very unique barnyard smell to it. Very cool stuff for sure.

Cored on a 3/4 " maple dowel it think it will play like rosewood on a maple dowel.
