Will Prout has received the case and has given me permission to "turn it over" and show you the back. I am especially honored to present this case to Will and the public. I wish that I could have made the ICCS show this year to do it in person.

Roy Mallot gets the credit for introducing Will to GTF cases and bringing up the possibility that we could do a case like this.

In my life as a case maker there have been many cases that have been inspiring. None as much as the Szamboti box case done by Fellini.

Why is that you might ask? Well it's because the simplicity of design on that platform hides the complexity of execution. It seems so easy to draw a few rectangles and diamonds but turns out not to be so easy. I have often looked at that case throughout the years and thought about how it was done and how I would do it. Sometimes though you need a little push to go through with things and this is an example of it. When Will asked me to do this case and have it done by the ICCS I accepted the challenge.

I won't bore you with the details. Suffice it to say that I have learned a lot more about case decorating and we are much better for it.

Will Prout has this case on display now in time for the ICCS. Justin from TAR has said he will try and get some better pix of it. I hope that he can and if not I am sure that Roy or Will can arrange some. I just want to thank again the GTF folks, Roy Mallot and Will Prout for this opportunity to extend Bob Hempel's legacy and be a part of cue and case history.

i would like to see that with this style case as well. tube 3 x 6, now that would be interesting........John, do ya think there would be a lot of 'canvas' on a case like that? :D i do...;)

Are the inlays pointed or CNC? I think I can see the glue line at the veneer miters.:thumbup: :thumbup: :thumbup:
Great case. I have an old tube style case lying around at home. I stripped the leather off of it and want to experiment with wrapping it in a veneer and inlaying other woods to match the pointwork and veneers in a cue. I think it would be really neat. You could miter the veneers like the real thing and after several coats of finish, it would be pretty durable. If I ever complete it I will post pics.

Hi John,

I want to tell the world that your pictures do not even come close to depicting the great case you have made, singularly one of the great cue cases of all time. I am simply awed by how great the case is, both in cue safety, design, construction and having met exactly what was in my mind`s eye to house this very special cue.

I assure you the case will be seen by many people this weekend at the ICCS show, and the most common question will be "Where can I have a case made for my cue"? The case is memorable for all who see it.

I mentioned to you earlier but also want to say here, that every once in a while in life an acquisition is made that warms you deeply, and immediately opens a special feeling inside, and this case does that. One for the ages! No, not one for the aged!

You have my warmest thanks and appreciation for the special care in developing and building this case. And you have a team of all-stars making cases!

What an awesome piece.
It will be a great addition to the collection that Will has for sure.
Hope one day to see the vast collection of box cues and now box cases.

-blush- thank you everyone. The credit goes to the incredible team I have around me. I did the intial design and my team, the Jiasen Cue Case factory's techs and my own people at JB Cases, all working on this case. I really hope that someone can get some good pictures of the case as we didn't have time to take better ones than what you see.

I won't reveal exactly how the case was done except to say that it involved a lot of computer time to determine the proportions (still not sure how well I did there) and spacing of the elements. Many drafts - 8 in total - it took cutting masks using a plotter and the laser - and a LOT of patient hand tooling and painting. Some parts were inlaid.

A lot of trial and error went into this case. As much respect as I have for Bob Hempel, Ann Kelly (Gore), and Stephen Bass (the people at Fellini), I have SO MUCH MORE respect for them now after doing a case like this.

It's a handful to even build a case like a Fellini. The folded over leather ends are not easy to do even if you have the pattern perfect. Then to construct one and have it all done structurally and then have to decorate it, knowing if you blow it then the case is likely toast, is nerve wracking.

But we got though it and came in on time. The next ones will be easier. My sincere appreciation for the pioneers Bob, Ann, and Stephen. And again my sincere thanks to Roy Mallot and GTF for the opportunity (push) to build this style of case.

And I want to thank Gus Szamboti for building such incredible cues that people go to such lengths to collect them, protect them, show them off, and treasure them. We can all aspire to live forever as Gus Szamboti does in every cue he built and every cue that Barry and Jimmy build.

Thanks Simon. Will might be a little busy these day to answer so I will tell you that this case was made for another Szamboti box cue. Will's is a little more ornate than the one on the Snap magazine cover.

I hope that we will be able to get some pictures of the cue and case together. Justin???? Please buddy - I will owe you big time!

Take care and I hope that Thoroughbred gets their stuff back intact so that you can get that sweet cue and case combo you ordered.
 
Cheers John. Yeah, I bet Will is under pressure for this weekend. I must apologise to everyone who thought I would be there...including Will. It was my intention to attend but my road partner, Sanjay Varma is already over there with you on business and I have a critical month at work...just couldn't get the time off. I hope its a big success and I will be watching on TAR.

Someone give me a call if anything pops up I would like to buy, lol! All the classic stuff for Mr Diamond.
