My Beautiful Cue - Ruined

I bought this Adam for $120 with 2 shafts around 1977-1979 at the Golden Q on Queens Blvd in N.Y. I broke it last year when I tripped over my dog- no kidding. My son was laughing, but I was crying inside. Any other similar sad stories ? Jim

That's a tough break (no pun intended) and I'm sorry for your loss. I'm sure you liked this cue as much as any of us like our cues, especially since you have had it so long. It may have some collectable value, on top of the $120 you paid, and some sentimental value. However, you can take some solice in the fact that it wasn't a high priced custom. I would be absolutely sick, if this happened to me, as would many others. :eek

Same stick twice!

I had a stick, not a high dollar cue but one that I had shot with for years and that I could make talk. My older brother came in on leave from the army and we were both playing on my home table with my stick. After a game he reached out with my stick to slap a ball towards the rack. Not something I did with my stick of course but he also rapped it just wrong or a wee bit too hard. Snapped a couple inches off the tip and my sixty inch stick was now a 57-1/2" stick. Done deal nothing I could really do.

A few years later an undercover city cop in a bar claims the stick is his. No way, I bought it brand new. He was a big ol' boy and he eventually jumped me when it was plain I wasn't being bullied into giving away my cue. We both went down and were rolling around on the floor with the cue in the middle. It was shattered and I was unable to go into that city after dark for several years since the cop had no end of buddies on the force.

no one asked, so i will.......what were you doing holding a cue out and walking your dog. you weren't going to use it as a fetch stick were you?

Hello Jim, I know that this must make you sick. Those were really nice cues, however, there is light at the end of the tunnel. I would contact Scott Sherbine at Proficient Billiards. The cue can be fixed, and if anyone can fix it Scott is the man. Below is a link to his site!!!!

You can take solice in knowing that it could have been a lot worse; somoene else could have tripped over the dog and broke your cue

At the Bar

I was at a bar for my league one night, and this place had really low ceilings in it! I mean like 7' ceilings. So I reach for my cue and pull it up just ever so slightly to realize that a ceiling fan was hitting my shaft!!!!!

It put several dents in the shaft, and I was sick! The other team was laughing. They all were thinking maybe he will have to borrow a cue and not shoot as well. (At least I am pretty sure that is what they were thinking!)

That was until I reached in my bag and pulled out my second shaft. I actually heard someone on their team say "damn" like they were mad I had an extra shaft! LOL (I had an awesome night on the table after that. I guess I took my anger out on the pool table! LOL)

I got the shaft fixed, but it made me mad as hell, and now I can finally laugh about it!

I am glad I didn't damage mine as bad as you did though! Sorry to see that happened.

Very ouch!

Sorry to hear about your cue being broke in that manner. As for fixing it, ANY custom cuemaker could handle the job. If it means a lot to you, get it fixed. On another note, you could soothe your broken little heart by ordering a custom cue to your own specs with ivory inlays, exotic wood points and all kinds of goodies - this would make you feel better about the whole "I killed my dog by plunging the broken butt through his backside because I was angry about breaking my cue after falling over the dog..." Hey, Bruin70 was right when he asked what you were doing.

As for Txplshrk, it's really poor sportsmanship for the other team to laugh at your misfortune.

I really hate it when I add a dent to the shaft of my cue. One time I missed a shot and slammed the cue down and off popped the tip. I was really having a bad experience after that.

I can fix that if you give me the chance. I'm off to Vegas today but feel free to contact me in a week.

I was playing with about a $1500 dollar "It's George" cue once, and my opponent missed a ball. I said, "Man, if that were me I'd have broken my cue over my knee." I showed him and barely hit it on my knee. Must have hit it on the right spot, because it snapped in the same location as yours. Sick is not the word. I also had to finish out the $100 set off the wall. I was young. I was an idiot. I have to go now and throw up.
