My Bluegrass may not have sold after all

Wrong...if you reface (take off some material) from the shaft, you will start to get the rings to line up....

Yeah what he said!... but go to far and you will have to drill and retap. best I can do is some rep for ya:thumbup: Back to the top For a great cue now if I could sweet talk the wife into another cue:D

Yea..take off a littlebit at a time till the ringwork matches up...shouldnt have to take off much

refacing the joint only matches the joint, not the rings

Not true. Refacing the joint, either on the shaft or the butt, will remove a slight amount of material which will cause the shaft to fit ever so slightly further down the pin. To match up the shaft, this would need to be done to each shaft in ever so slight increments. Each time, the spaces on the rings would fit in an ever so slightly different spot, in relation to the spaces on the rings of the butt. The secret is to find that precise spot where everything lines up. It is not as easy as it sounds, though, since if you remove too much material, etc, you will be past the point of perfection, and would have to start all over again, each time, removing surface from a ring which is getting smaller and smaller.

I have 2 5/16 14 pre cat predators, 1 with an ivory ferrule that was done as a test.

I have 2 pre cat 314's with a 5/16 18 joint, that the insert could easily be swapped.

I can get you wizard tips, which are the best layered tip i have found

let me know if any of that peaks your intrest towards this cue and we'll go from there.

I can get pics of the ferrules.
May be tomorrow. I have league tonight and probably will not have time tonight.

What is involved in switching out the insert to make the x18 work for other sizes?

any cuemaker worth anything can remove the insert, and re-install a piloted 14 insert, or even plug and retap for any of the wood thread joints.

I have a guy in my poolroom that has used the same shaft for 10 years, on about 15-20 different cues. He just has the thing plugged and tapped. That way he can use different cues and not have to adjust to a new shaft.

Nice Cue
