Well, it was definitely another interesting year at the Derby City for me. Upon arriving Friday afternoon I headed to the action room to see Justin and the guys. I liked the overall set up of the action room and was hopeful for a great week of action matches. The first weekend was not disappointing. Between Carl Bailey, Harry Platis, Richie Rich, Chris Bartram and several others, I was constantly watching high money matches that were great to watch. As usual, I wasn't able to watch much of the tournament matches but was able to sneak down to see a few games between Alex and Sparky in the banks, fun match to watch.
As usual, the best part of the week was getting to meet TAR supporters and fellow AZer's. This year I finally got to meet JoeyA, rzrback aka Biggs, and billychips, along with several others. I also had the unfortunate pleasure of entering into a "corporation" with Roy Steffensen. This venture was not a money maker to say the least. Every champion I bet on stunk it up, lol. I finally got to watch Shane play some 1 pocket against Chris Gentile and I can see the potential in Shane's game, he just needs to get in the dirt and play some great players to learn how to move a little better.
John Mars, what can I say about this guy? He loves to have a good time and bet high. He can also crush the balls pretty well. A game was set up between Mike Dechaine and Alex, with Mike getting 3 on the wire to 11 with John Mars breaking for Alex. Lost some cash on it but it was a blast to watch.
The rest of the week was a blur with the long hours and constant action going on in the TAR room. Unfortunately the week wasn't perfect. Scott and Efren matched up again and everyone upstairs was hoping they'd do it in the action room, but they ended up playing downstairs in the tournament hall. Thursday or Friday I got a call from Justin to shut down the stream, as the hotel and Gaming Commission had been watching and we couldn't do free streams anymore. I admit I got a little nervous as I was the only one up there and was holding a decent amount for a few games going on. I could just see gaming agents pulling that out and asking what it was for, lol. The other problem this week was the stream. The bandwith this year was hard to fade and it caused alot of stress and hassle for the TAR guys. Believe me when I say that no one was more frustrated than the guys in the booth. Add on Danny Smith and Brandon Shuff being thrown out and arrested for fighting, the end of the week was rough.
I see alot of changes needed in the future for DCC to continue going strong. Its definitely something that needs to be discussed over the next year. I'd like to thank everyone who made the trip as enjoyable as possible: Justin, Nasty, Sunny, Mark Griffin, Roy Steffensen, John Mars, Johnny Morra, Disco, Bartram (i'm getting my $500 back), Biggs, Scooter and everyone else I forget early this morning. Unfortunately i've been sick as a dog since I got back. The last group i'd really like to thank are the fans and viewers on theactionreport.com. You guys made the week for me. I know the stream was a rough one and alot of you guys stayed with us and kept the support going. I beg you to continue the support to ensure this great event keeps going. Thanks again to everyone for a memorable year and heres to future Derby City Classics.
