I sold a cue online and sent it to my new friend in Iowa, he received the cue in a timely fashion, he loved the cue, everything seemed like a smooth transaction until.........I get the bill from FedEx, They quoted me $20.88, then after the package was delivered they tried to charge me $53.16 , my bank sent me a fraud alert and asked if I had a charge from FedEx in Tenn., I told them no so I had to get a new card, that cost me $7.50, finally I get to speak with someone at FedEx, He tells me that because I sent the cue in a tube there is an extra charge of $35.28, stated that if you ship with FedEx you agree to let them charge you AFTER the item you ship is delivered no matter what the agent quoted you, I told him you got me once but this is the last time, I know many on this forum by and sell, If you have to ship I would not use FedEx, hope this helps anyone on here to not suffer the same fate, basically they can charge you what ever they want after they quote you .

2022 FedEx Additional Handling Surcharges2022 FedEx Additional Handling Surcharges

How does FedEx define an additional handling charge?

  • (Dimension)
    1. measures greater than 48 inches along the longest side;
    2. package measures greater than 30 inches along the second-longest side;
    3. or the package is greater than 105 inches in length and girth — the length and girth is length plus (two times the height) plus (two times the width)
  • (Weight)
    1. actual weight greater than 50 lbs.
      • (U.S. Express & Ground Services)
    2. the actual weight greater than 70 lbs.
      • (International Express & Ground Services)
  • (Packing)
    1. Non-standard packaging, including any package that:
      • is not fully encased in an outer shipping container;
      • encased in an outer shipping container not made of cardboard;
      • covered in shrink or stretch wrap;
      • is encased in a soft-sided pack (poly bags or bubble mailer) longer than 18 inches
        • or 13 inches along its second-longest side or 5 inches in height;
      • cylindrical;
      • bound with metal, plastic, or cloth banding, or has wheels, casters, handles, or straps; or
      • could become entangled or cause damage to other packages or FedEx equipment

Should the agent quoting you the price tell you that? plus the package was not bound with metal, plastic or cloth banding, still the agent quoting price should have made me aware of that don't you think?

It only gets worse, I paid more than double than what I was quoted charge and tried to close my account, FedEx asked a whole bunch of questions about vehicles "I might have owned" property ect., I told them that I didn't need to give them that info to open the account why would I need to give that info to close the account? He had the gall to say we don't share that info, I said you got that from public record that has nothing to do with closing my account, you want that info so you can sell it, he then said I can't close your account and hung up, I called up and got another guy, who wouldn't close the account either, I asked if they recorded calls and he said they did and said I was being recorded, I said good, I can use my phone records to prove this phone call.....what a nightmare.

its getting more illegal by the day
All true -- there are two local restaurants that no longer accept cash. But I was asking specifically about FedEx.

From the point of view of a lot of businesses, credit cards are a lot safer. I've seen several situations where the cash somehow did not make its way to the cash register.

On the other hand, there is a small restaurant near me that has no register -- just a drawer. The employees sum the prices in their heads and know how to make change. Prices include tax.

The employees sum the prices in their heads........all by themselves? no computer? By today's standard they are math wizards

I've had no issues and prefer FedEx. Last time I shipped a cue, I used their online shipping website. I shipped it in a triangular FedEx Tube and insured it for $5,000 (less than the value of the cue). I did FedEx Express Saver and it was a little less than $120, which is what I was quoted online.

If it's easy to do online, I prefer that rather than have to call. I not only speak Southern, I hear Southern, and some of those accents are difficult for me to understand.

The cue was $125.00 but that's not the point, if you can only get correct information on-line they should say so, I was quoted in Upstate NY at a FedEx location but I grew up in VA. so I'm bilingual, not allowing to close my account because they want old information is straight garbage.

Agent as in a person or did you use the online tool and provided all the info yourself? Seems it's just a matter of the wrong info being put in under package details. Nothing bad or a scam. If a mechanic quotes you a price for a repair, then finds out some detail like the car is rusted through and you need to spend an extra 2 hours prying a part out they are likely to charge you for the extra work.

Here at the Post Office, we'll beat their price, but we won't deliver it until we're ready. Everything is "In Transit." Our storage out back gets down to -30 at night, but your cue will be safe. Call our 1-800-PAC-KAGE number to hear us laughing after a forklift runs over your cue. Ask for Joe, our package inspector and champion parcel launcher. No surprises with us...you get what you expect, eventually. Priority shipping means it sits by the back door for a few days. The only priority we have is locking the Post Office by 4:45PM Hey, what's that long box? Is my kid getting a new cue for Christmas?
