My experience with Fed Ex shipping

Ah, yes, the Great Wall of Text that no one reads.

Yep, however with so many possible details and options and situations, it's not really feasible to list everything in a clear 6 bullet point thing.
I mean look at the rules of pool and questions people ask about it, to explain the basic rules of a game you can do in like 2 paragraphs. To be a ref to make rulings on the situations players come up with you need a 20 page book.

Or one handgun!

Just kidding. We don't kill our fellow sportizans.

It's a bit hard when you mailed the thing and it's going through their system to just send it back to you for insufficient postage, especially if they specify they can add the charge on in the details of the service. The got permission when you sent the item agreeing to their terms. Yes it's very hard to find and read every single * and addendum and link they have, but it's there, in a very legal way. I would bet when you purchased the shipping label all the info about possible extra costs was there to be looked at.
If you are ok with that kind of customer service use them, I am not, this post was for people like me who were not aware so they don't get burned like I did, ONCE and only ONCE
Ah, yes, the Great Wall of Text that no one reads.
I learned the hard way, it ain't the first time I learned something the hard way and probably won't be the last, hope it helps some other pool player just trying to offset the cost of some new gear

That counter person is just a dude making $12.50 an hour waiting to go smoke a bone at lunch. Very likely the place was a franchise type thing, and they just did not know everything about the shipping details or happened to miss it that time. It's not the end of the world like a doctor operating on the wrong arm or someone cutting your break line when changing oil. Find me a work place that is 100% correct all the time that is in a non-critical field. Let's not be Karens here and sue the supermarket because they gave you 40 grapes instead of 43 or mushed your bread a bit. This has absolutely nothing to do with FedEx the overall company or how they do business but with a single person making an error in the exact form of the package and details about the shipping.

I don't use FedEx myself because they tend to be the priciest option, not because they are sneaky and try to cheat people LOL My work uses them pretty much exclusively and I have talked to many of their delivery people, who have made great accommodations for us when asked nicely, even talking about packages they noticed for our business going to some other place or sitting in their shipping centers, which helped us find several missing items worth many thousands of dollars and got them to the area on time.

If I stopped using a product or service because of a bad review I don't think any of us would be using anything at all. Even Lexus, Toyota, Apple, etc.. have bad reviews all the time even though they have very solid reputations, or in the case of Apple not so solid reputations.
You missed the point, this is not a review of FedEx, this is my experience with them, yours may be different, I never said not to use FedEx, I said I won't use them, their policies are not consumer friendly in MY OPINION, you are entitled to yours, where I live everyone makes $15.00 an hour and everything is so expensive and taxes are so high you need to make $30.00 an hour to live a modest lifestyle, thank you for pointing out if you are a big business FedEx will help out but if you are not they could care less about you.

I generally ship based on whichever one has pissed me off last, I use another. I have to ship a cue shaft right now so I am open to suggestions.

The reason for this post though, for once in my life my timing was perfect! I had a custom rifle barrel disappear in Salt Lake City. Shipped UPS. As luck would have it the company a friend works for was shipping over two million a year worth of freight out of Salt Lake and my friend was the middle man. He always made them wine and dine him a full week each year before he would sign a new agreement.

I called Dave when my package just went off the radar after supposedly reaching Salt Lake. They do container scans and even virtual scans or did then so I knew none of my tracking was guaranteed real. Anyway, this was Dave's one week a year to get wined and dined! Just over fifty to one odds and I nailed it. Dave told the guy he was dealing with about my barrel and said it would make him happy if that barrel was found and delivered. Less than two days later it was in my hands in Louisiana.

Then funny thing, that package stayed in Salt Lake for the next year and a half according to package tracking, then disappeared!

Like Mike Mosconi, I put my stuff that fits in a hard round tube, pvc in my case, then I put it in a flat sided box or tube. Round tubes roll into the works on conveyor belts but they also roll off of belts and into awkward places to reach. They roll out of trucks to get ran over or roll into awkward places too. Even when they sling it on your front step it may roll slap over to the neighbors!

Crap, now I have to ship a shaft to californication. Who do I ship by or do I just say fugget and roll the dice?

The first thing we all must come to terms with is the fact that there are a lot of cocksuckers out there, and not just individuals, but corporations who only want to have their hands in our pockets and they don't care how fair or unfair, they will never stop trying.

The tactics these companies use are the kinds of moves that if they were caught doing them back when I was growing up, it would be enough to force them out of business. Now, anything goes, there's not much in the way of customer service anymore, being on hold for long waits while being told how important your call is, when was the last time a mistake on your bill was to your favor? - Those don't happen, e-v-e-r. How about a few years ago when Wells Fargo Bank employees opened thousands of fraudulent accounts in their existing customers names costing those unwitting customers lots of $$$ just so the unscrupulous bank employees and their managers would make their sales quotas and resulting bonuses. How does this bank not get forced out of business?

Just in the past month, while reviewing my credit card statement I noticed a charge for $104.22 from "Walmart membership". That's odd, I never joined anything at Walmart so there goes the next approx 1 hour of my life being bounced around various customer service agents in India, then finally managers in the USA, none of whom that could say how this erroneous charge may have happened. They promised to reverse the charge but I don't trust them anymore so there goes another approx 40 minutes of my life with my cc company agents in the PI. WTF

Two weeks ago I bought a couple items on Amazon. I was extremely careful not to press any buttons that would result in bullshit but despite my best efforts the very next day I begin receiving all the congrats on my new Prime membership and as you can probably guess, there went the next almost two hours of my life trying to cancel this membership I never asked for.

Bottom line, everyone is trying to get into your wallet or learn your data and you have to be on high alert at all times. We are living in a changed world where there is little to no accountability. When FedEx gets you to open an account with them it's pitched as a convenience for the customers with potential bonuses and savings. The reality is slightly different.

I'm liking the idea to use cash when possible and forget joining all the clubs and smart pay gasoline to save a dime a gallon and etc etc etc.

They are not our friends, recognize them for who and what they really are; these are adversarial relationships.

Cynical enough? lol

best,
brian kc

I shipped a cue recently w UPS to MO they delivered it to KS. After about five calls and some serious verbal gymnastics I got through to a “agent”. You actually get through faster if you ask for an Asian, their voice recognition software is crap or an Asian guy got over. (Try it I’m not joking.) I’m laughing hoping it’s the latter. Anyway, the “Agent” was great. I explained to him in advance my frustration was not with him, He didn’t give my package to a business with an address with nothing in common to the address it was to be delivered to. Sorry I don’t think in paragraphs, you know who you are! Anyway, UPS refused to go back same day and retrieve my package, they would pick it up at the regular next day delivery. I was not pleased, being cynical, I’m thinking Joe in receiving at Ricks Appliance Emporium sees an odd box and opens it and says “Jackpot!!”. Cue gone nowhere to be found. Behold, UPS did recover the package the following day and delivered the next. Now the most valuable info I can impart on you, I asked my Agent if there was anyway to get a human on the phone, He said yes. If you call and ask to make a payment and get to billing and ask for a agent you get right through.

I also found out the hard way about USPS extra charges on oversized boxes. Yes, even the triangular boxes they provide for you! As far as Amazon is concerned, they will offer you free shipping. BEWARE! If you agree to their "free shipping," you will also be joining Amazon Prime at $14.95/month. They got me for several months before I caught on to their scam.

NEVER sign up for any search engine that offers you a one time charge of only $1. If you do you will have just joined their services for 30-90 days and your credit card will be dunned in advance. Opting out is also not easy. "Chatting" with them online won't work. You must call and go through all the holds and being transfered from one "agent" to another. They should more aptly call them "road agents!"

I sold a property last year and canceled all my regular services, including the monthly pest control spray around the buildings. Orkin was charging me $88/month for that service. I informed them both by phone and e-mail. To no avail, they continued to bill me for several months after. I called them each month for the next three months and explained my situation to one of their road agents and was told each time my bill would be credited and the account closed. It never happened and the billings continued unabated for six months until I began receiving notices from a collection agency. I returned their bill with a note attached telling them I had no intention of paying the 50% settlement they offered me. Once again I stated that I had canceled with Orkin when my property was sold six months prior. Thank God I never heard from them or Orkin again. Whether they tried to harm my credit rating I do not know or care. My credit score still comes up around 800 and everybody and their uncle wants my business. I'm a bonifide CONSUMER, spending thousands on a regular basis to improve our new home and our quality of life.

The bottom line is you MUST be on your guard at all times when doing business on the internet or in person. Even buying from a retail outlet and having something (like furniture) delivered, be careful! They will offer you insurance along with your goods and if you decline it, then anything delivered to your home is now fair game. If the product is defective or missing parts, you're screwed! Been there, done that with a major furniture store in Los Angeles. There was no hardware that came with the new bed I bought. I called the store and they told me it was back ordered and I would have it within a month! It never came and the store quit returning my phone calls and did not respond to my e-mails. I had to figure out what nuts and bolts I needed to put it together and go to my local hardware store and buy them. I think they cost me about $37, but what a lot of time and effort went into that fiasco. I could have sued them in Small Claims court, but just too much hassle. I will NEVER shop at Jerome's Furniture or Living Spaces again! I vote with my wallet.

Bought a tv and stand years ago to watch the Super Bowl. Stand was missing a piece in the box, several more were on-site in the store. The retailer refused to exchange it insisting I had to contact the manufacturer for the replacement part. Spent thousands on appliances since, not a dime with them. This was before the Amazon nightmare.

Had a similar problem with Home depot on an expensive Bar-B-Que. It had an incorrect grill piece that didn't fit the other two properly. They told me to package my Bar-B-Que up and bring it back, and they would give me another one. No thanks! It's big, it's heavy, and it took me over and hour to set it up. Yes, you got that right. They had many similar grills on display that they could have exchanged the one piece easily enough, so I did it for them.

Ah, yes, the Great Wall of Text that no one reads.

Not like we have a better choice anyway! I did go fetch heavy equipment like lathes and mills sometimes when I had a pick-up. Shipping was roughly the same as room and gas and it gave me an excuse for a road trip.

What I liked was the wall of text "can't sue" forms at the hospital. "What if I don't sign?" "No signature we don't cut." Same deal at every hospital and surgery center. Your options are sign or die sometimes. Whatta deal! Sign and they are held harmless even if gross incompetence is involved. Don't sign and you will become an expert on that thread wondering if there is a God.

I sometimes read the full page of fine print not broken into paragraphs just to annoy the person obviously eager to get on to their cigarette and coffee. When I was really annoyed at a wall of text sometimes I went with, "Oops, lost my place. Gotta start over." Asking to have every word over three syllables explained is another move guaranteed to kick the people's blood pressure up a few notches too!

I did that to doctors and surgeons also. I would let them rattle on for fifteen minutes, quite pleased with themselves. When they finally ran down I would ask if they could put that in english now.

They have you by the short and curlies but you can sneak in a little payback!

If you ship enough things, you'll have a run-in with everyone. Recently USPS decided to reinterpret their rules about rural areas and decided that our neighborhood, three developments with around 800 houses, is now rural because we are not incorporated in a city, so won't pick up or deliver to houses more than half a mile from their mail room on the main road. Never mind that we have more residents here than two of our adjacent counties combined. I also remember reading in forums recently about surcharges for long items, but it appears that has gone by the wayside, likely because of pressure from gun owners, fishermen, golfers, baseball, hockey, lacrosse and other sports with more lobbying power than billiards and similarly long items.

I use UPS for pool cues and shafts, and go through Pirateship.com. Last few things I sent have been under $10 going to the far side of the country. Fedex was a little more, USPS was much higher. I have found that if you ship really heavy things, Fedex is decidedly cheaper. I sent a 50 lb box the other day that was $40 with Fedex, $50 with UPS and over $100 with USPS. On the way to deliver it in town, I was able to flag down the Fedex driver in the neighborhood who helped me unload it from my car, scanned it in and it was on its way that afternoon.

Now if you ask our dog about her preference, she is definitely a Fedex lover. When she hears the UPS truck coming up the hill, she runs to the window, barks and has successfully chased it away two or three times a day for some time now. Won't do that to Fedex because the Fedex lady gives her treats when she delivers her dog food and things from Chewy.com. Maybe that is the solution--have Fedex drop of some cookies when they deliver a package.

A few Girl Scout thin mints could make a world of difference in my shipping choices!

I sold a cue online and sent it to my new friend in Iowa, he received the cue in a timely fashion, he loved the cue, everything seemed like a smooth transaction until.........I get the bill from FedEx, They quoted me $20.88, then after the package was delivered they tried to charge me $53.16 , my bank sent me a fraud alert and asked if I had a charge from FedEx in Tenn., I told them no so I had to get a new card, that cost me $7.50, finally I get to speak with someone at FedEx, He tells me that because I sent the cue in a tube there is an extra charge of $35.28, stated that if you ship with FedEx you agree to let them charge you AFTER the item you ship is delivered no matter what the agent quoted you, I told him you got me once but this is the last time, I know many on this forum by and sell, If you have to ship I would not use FedEx, hope this helps anyone on here to not suffer the same fate, basically they can charge you what ever they want after they quote you .
Could be a scammer. Our pool hall gets a couple calls a year from Ontario Hydro saying they’ll cut our power if we don’t pay our bill.

About 8 years ago, I sold two exercise devices on eBay. I printed the shipping label through eBay, giving the dimensions of the package, and the rate was about $18 each. When I was at the USPS counter, the postmaster came over to look at them and demanded an additional $17 for each box. She apparently did not know about eBay's agreement with them for reduced shipping. I had to pull one of the boxes away from her after she wrote on the box with a sharpy "owes $17". I went home, removed the layer of cardboard with her comment and taped over the area. Dropped both packages off at another post office without any questions.

its real simple if you feel they abused you then call the credit card and tell them you want to dispute the whole charge. then it gets erased. costs too much for the company to fight it and too much for your card company to deal with it.

if your bank charges you for something not fair just tell them you refuse to pay that. and they take it off all the time.

but learn what you are to pay for rather than assume things. the credit card is your protection from these things.

For all the crap they take usps always gets it there at a fair price.

but learn what you are to pay for rather than assume things......Physician heal thyself, you assumed that I didn't go to a FedEx location and get quoted a price on the shipping, quoted by a FedEx employee, my intent was to let anyone shipping a pool cue ect. here what could happen to them, If you can't go to a shipping company and get an accurate price then in my opinion you probably shouldn't use them, but that is just my opinion, as I said they got me once but never again, I paid my bill, but I still can't close my account with them, they won't ALLOW me unless I give them information from past residences, vehicles I've owned, ect., I reject that on principal, so they will hold my account open till the world ends, wanted people to know how this company treated me and how they will treat you.
