I detailed a 15 year flirtation with the Barry Szamboti cue pictured below. Every few years the owner would allow me to play a few hours with it...just because he was a nice guy & he took a liking to me. He didn't have to do it, but he did. I was always appreciative of that.

Well, the stars & moon aligned perfectly this past weekend and I was offered a deal that I could not turn down. I purchased that BARRY!

What a change of pace for a guy thats never owned a cue retailing for more than about $700.

Just thought I would share my joy. I still can't believe I own a BARRY!

So Mark, is that going to be your everyday shooter or are you just going to bring it out on special occassions?

That's a real looker. I think I have seen it before...maybe shot against it once in a tournament (playing Little Pepe). May have been a different Szamboti though. I can't remember exactly.

Good luck with it. Might improve your game...seems every time I improved cues, my game improved slightly. Might just be a confidence thing, but my game did improve a little.

See ya around sometime...Ken

Hey, Ken. How ya doing buddy?

I'm going to put it away for the winter...I don't want to find out what the deep cold of an Iowa winter could do to those inlays. Come spring, I'll bring it out. It's seen regular play for it's 20 years of life & I don't intend to change that. It has (2) shafts for play and (1) that has never been chalked.

BTW, I believe you're thinking of the right cue (from the tourney you mentioned).

You gonna buy it an electric blanket, tell it a bedtime story and tuck it in at night? ;)

Just teasing you, Mosc. She's a beauty. I really like the veneer colors. Just keep this in mind - you're screwed now. From what I understand it is like the first tattoo - most of us can't stop at the one.

Nothing over $700 before, huh? Nothing like jumping straight into the fire!

Enjoy that bad boy. Remember, Barry wants you play with his cues.

Congratulations, I am truly jealous that is an outstanding and beautiful traditional looking cue.

Are you going to use it as your main player?

Thanks for sharing

Classic Barry

Every time I see a Szamboti I smile. This one is no different. Until you hit with one you really don't know what you are missing. You picked up a great cue and hopefully it will not turn into a closet queen.

Best of luck with this beauty.

I couldn't agree with your first comment any more...until you've actually hit a ball with one...

I may have given people the idea that this cue will take a place in my closet. Not the case. It's just that the winters get pretty cold in Iowa & I won't take any chances with leaving it in my trunk like I do with my other (modest) cues.

This cue was a player for its first 20 years and will see regular play in my hands too.
