Hey just finished my first cue from scratch and put it on ebay. I would really love to know what you guys think. Please don't hesitate to tell me how you feel, I have thick skin. Also would love to know how much you guys think it could be worth. I know without hitting it you really can't judge but just on looks alone please let me know what you think.

Tony, thats a nice cue. I'm not a big pin guy, but still for your first from
scratch cue, it came out really nice. IMO a very good choice of woods.
Really sharp cue, but arent you supposed to keep the first one? I know
if I ever get a chance to build my own even as a hobby, I'm keeping the
first one. Keep up the good work, and good luck with the auction.
 
My brother got my first, a (in my opinion) great playing sneaky. It is Bacote into Birdseye with mahogany linen phenolic for a butt cap and joint. So my first one technically is "in the family". My girlfriend got me a stunning Phillippi for christmas last year, hard to go wrong with a "hoppe" ringed, leather wrapped, four point, five veneered Phillippi.
 
Decent cue for people who don't demand veneers or rings such as myself .. I know a lot of people like that plainer style. Looks to be good quality, the weight issue is not good though.. not many people use that weight for anything but break cues but I'm sure someone who likes cues a bit heavier will get it and for a decent deal!


What do you think its worth, and then what do you think it will sell for?



If you ever get into making 4 pt or more veneers in the distant future let me know, ill love to take a look.
 
About a month or two away from making points, really looking forward to it. Just saving up for all of the necessary tool, don't want to half ass it. I really didnt think it would be this expensive for something I just "wanted to try", these hooks are so deep into me now I have no chance of not getting out. Needless to say I am hooked. Just wondering if there is anything better than the first time you polish that finish out, got what a feeling.

Only problem I can see from here is the weight.

You'll have a lot more people interested if you keep the weight between 18.75 and 19.5.

Cues seem to sell best around 19.2-3.
 
G-10 pin

Anyone have a 3/8-10 g-10 pin they would like to sell me. And how would I go about removing the pin. I assure a blowtorch to heat up the pin to loosen the epoxy and then just clean out the hole, retap and glue it up. Any info would be great. Thanks for all of the kind words.

I guess I didn't have enough faith in my work to put it on here with all of the great looking cues I see from you guys. Please feel free to bid LOL.
 
Nice job my friend, how does she hit ? What grade of shaftwood did you use ? Keep on makeing them , Maybe someday it can be a full time thing for you ??<<<<ED
 
That is quite nice.

Speaking from experience as a new maker myself, I know (most of) the problems you have had along the way, and how frustrating it can get- to point where you just want to throw the blank in the chipper!

Anyway, the advice you have received so far is good. Cocobolo, Ebony and some of the other denser woods have to be used in moderation, or, as you said, cored.

I don't plan to make cues that are not full-splice blanks, so that can help; however I cannot have a full handle of Ebony either... See my post on the John Davis cue I'm working on now: http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=153191

By the way, are you single pointing, or using a router to turn the OD? I'm single pointing and it is a ***** when the wood starts to 'sing'... It is the traditional way, but it is so much more difficult... Looking into some changes in the future!

I turn doen my wood with a router attached to my tool post. I have a modified Taig micro mini lathe that I do all of my work out of a steady rest. About to upgrade to a double chucked headstock so it will be easier. Thanks for all of the kind words.

I am impressed with what I see enough to have put in a bid. Hope I get it.
It is probably worth more than you will get on ebay, but as you get known you will make up your losses. You have a lot of potential if this is just your beginning. Good luck in the future. Bob H.
