My King Cobra customized Table

Last week I got a call from Glen AKA the Real King Cobra saying that He was traveling down I90 and asked if I still wanted my table fixed. Well it had been three years and I had totally given up hope, so it was like winning the lottery.

Glen went to work on my GCI and soon found out it was really messed up. Five days later :yikes: Glen finished the job and the table is awesome. It has all the specs of the updated Diamonds and the job he did on the rails is a masterpiece. The corners are all 4.25" and the sides at 5" with all the proper angles. What a dream to play on.

All the time Glen spent on my piece of sheet table not once did he complain, but said he enjoyed the challenge. To say how happy I am would be an understatement.

Looks great. I also have a GC-1.

One thing I can not stand is how the pocket castings stick up leaving an ledge above the rail. i.e., not flush with the top of the rail. I always scratch my cue on it. I see that it appears that you too have a small ledge based on the side pocket photo.

Knowing about RKC and the great work he does I can only assume this is a hard problem to fix.

Just curious to hear about this issue.

I don't think it can be fixed because the castings are thicker than the rail and everything is predicated on the subrail. Believe me, if Glen thought it was an issue and could be fixed he would do it. He doesn't miss a trick!!

Really thought you were kidding about Glen stopping by. It's been sooooooo long since you first told me about him working on your table. Is that one of Phil's old tables? Did Pauly have a similar one?

Nice to see you again last week. Hope to see more of you now that the weather is changing again. You can play golf with a colored ball incidentally. All that funny white stuff on the ground shouldn't bother you.
Might slow you down though.

This was one of Angelo's tables. Phil and Dave Grau installed it. It plays real good now, and it was quite a challenge for Glen. See you around a lot more now that golf season is closing rapidly.

No it was a custom job and they glued the new formica over the old and it created a nightmare for Glen, in order to make the transition from the rail to the cushion. He did it and its perfect!!

My GCIV is a disgrace as far as fit & finish goes. Castings fit like crap above the rails.
Nice looking GCI ...love that color combo.
 
It is a great feeling to know you had the "best " set your table up. I have been working hard to wear my cloth out just to get Glen back here one more time!

No, someone put new laminate over the top of the original laminate, did a great job of installing it though. Only problem was that from the top of the laminate finish to the sub-rail, the drop was an 1/8" and ugly. So rather than remove the laminate and start all over again, I took 5/64"ths off the bottom of the rails, removing the foot print of where the rails bolt up to the slate. Which of course this created the problem of having to inlay the fig8 rail bolt plates deeper too, so after cutting off the sub-rails and replacing them with new wood, cushions, and the whole nine yards, I had a 1/4" of space overhang to work with when reinstalling the rails on the slates, which brought up another problem. The head end of the slates, even though pinned & doweled, didn't line up with the center slate, it lined up about 1/2" off to the left side of the center slate, so I had to cut off the pins and move the slate over to line up right.

The table turned out perfect, and Tommy was a GREAT host, I couldn't ask for a better friend, but if he EVER lets someone else work on "OUR" pool table....the FRIENDSHIP IS OFF!!!...LOL

How tight would you say this is?

Also, notice how sloppy the cloth work is in the corner pocket.

RKC's corner pocket is much neater.



Also, check out how tall the casting ledge is. BRUTAL!!!
