***** For those that have inquired and PM'd about this cue I no longer own it. I went against my word and sold the cue. Happy to say it went to someone who needed it for a collection of the original MO series first brochure cues. *****

I looked and looked for this cue for a long time and finally was able to aquire it almost a year ago. The cue was in fairly good shape but went to proficient billiards for a makeover and to be brought back to life. Bob Meucci had the cue in his hands at last years SBE and enjoyed seeing the cue. Original first brochure MO-5 and the only piloted joint Meucci he ever made. Bumperless hoppe style. If you know of another possibly for sale PM me. I know there's some Meucci lovers on here and a few closet Meucci guys. I hope you enjoy seeing the cue as I know they don't surface very often. Happy New Year!

Wow

Wow! Congrats on this find. Everytime I see one like this I think about getting one. But that's a long way like you told us.

Man there's always a soft spot in my heart for the early Originals, still the best constructed Meucci Cues made.

Btw- pics aren't loading.

I may try to find one as well. It's either these or the early Pre-JossWest Joss cues for me. I love both.

Nice classic cue. Love it. He made at least 1 other piloted joint MO-5. He made an ebony one for Buddy Hall. I about bought it as I really liked it. Congrats on the pickup.

I wasn't referring to this particular cue when I said the only piloted joint cue he made. I was speaking about the model. I saw that cue, went after it and it was gone by the time I had my finger on the trigger. I'd love to find a twin to this one in ebony as Buddy's was. Thanks for the comments!

Very cool cue.

As you say, a needle in a haystack.

It's just plain fun to play the old ones too.

Thanks for showing off! :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Sorry. My bad. I misinterpreted the comment. It is my 3rd favorite Meucci. Star of David and Chess cues are my 1 and 2. Congrats on the pickup. Enjoy.

Thought you might want to see the original catalog brochure picture of the MO-5, mid 1970s.

The funny thing about this picture is the points look ebony, and the buttsleeve looks like rosewood or similar. I'd like to know where that cue ended up.

One thing you don't see, due to the limitations of my scanner, the MO-5 was advertised at $120 for a stainless joint, and $105 for a brass joint. I have never seen a brass joint MO-5. Has anybody? That would be the valuable one, not that this isn't.

A little side note, in the mid 70s, Hoppe style cues were not very common, Joss did a few, Gus did a few, and Richard Black and some others, but not many were seen. Most of the Hoppe cues around and that time were original Rambows. Now, every cuemaker at every street corner makes the Hoppe cue. It caught on, made a revival, whatever you want to call it.

But, I would would give Bob M credit for some old style, even though most associate the Meucci name for more contemporary cues. The MO-5 was nice.

All the best,
WW

Thanks for the info. I've seen the first brochure scan but never looked at the description to see the brass joint option. It took me a long time to find this one and as I said I've seen 2 others along the way (over maybe 10 yrs) Neither of those two had brass joints. Both were stainless steel. What I did find interesting is the scan you provided shows the piloted joint (shaft side). I find it odd the MO-6 next to it is steel jointed as well but they chose to build that model as a flat faced cue. The only real reason I can see that makes sense is he might have been trying to make a model appealing to the guys playing with 2 piece Brunswick hoppe cues at that time. Keep in mind my reasoning behind this theory is this cue was built around 1975 and Brunswick was still making hoppe cues 5-10 yrs prior. Could also be the reasoning for the brass joint option. Very intriguing...... Things like this make me wish Bob Meucci himself posted here. I realize he has a big business to run but he did so many things for cue making history it would be nice to have him spread some insight occasionally. I'd like to hear about his days at National, building the Wico blanks, etc........ Maybe someday.....

Great looking cue, always been a fan of this model....had a chance to buy one at the DCC when still at the Executive for next to nothing but the buttcap was broke, like so many of these you find. This one is a gem

I'd still love to see this model with the advertised brass joint available. Has anybody ever seen that?

All the best,

Nice cue. I terms of Meucci rarity, I know where one of the original roadrunner cues is hiding, but the guy thinks he has a Bushka from the $9000 price he is asking for it, and it has been modified by having a piece of gold jewelry glued to the butt sleeve with thick epoxy. would only need to have a refinish to be like new.
