My NEW RICK HOWARD CUE!!!!!!!!!!!

Rick Howard delivered my new cue at the Derby City Classic.

I spoke with Rick about a year about building a cue for me for my Christmas present.

I asked for a black on black with 6 point (3 hi and 3 low).
Ivory Hoppe butt
Ivory Joint
Ivory Ferrelles

I had originally asked for purple, blue, lt blue, green veneers. My idea was to only see veneers. Rick called me back and was worried it wouldnt work, but finally suggested blue, black, blue veneers.

This is the result. It plays like all of his cues AWESOME, a little stiffer than a Southwest.

From about 10 feet away you dont see the veneers and the cue appears to ebony with a strange blue hue. It is extremely sutle and very classy IMO.

We were down with Joey Gold and he came over to look it over and he played a few racks with it. He LOOKED it over close and commented that he was impressed with it.

I was too.

ANY THOUGHTS?

Ken

Rick Howard cue

Rick Howard is THE most underrated cuemaker out there. Every one of his cues play very very stiff better than a southwest IMHO also. I talk to him last Thursday and have a nice selection coming from him (7-10) and can not wait until they are completed so I can pick the one maybe one(s) that I want to keep for myself. Great choice on an awesome cuemaker.

Nice cue with crisp point work. Veneer colors look good.

Great Cue!

Rick Howard is a world class player and he uses his knowledge and years of cue making experience to produce one of the sweetest playing cues available. Alot of his cues playability comes from his shafts tapper and the way he balances his cues. Rick is a perfectionist and it shows in his cues. They just keep getting better! Rick takes alot of pride in his work and it shows!
Sweet Cue!
Nick :)

Very nice

I got my new cue from Rick last week. I will post some pics. I really like your cue. Ebony on Ebony is a winner.

I'd love to see this one, too.

I'm in the process of making some final adjustments to my cue that will be ordered soon. If you have pics, please post them quick so I can see if I want to make any changes in my design!!!
:) :D

Ken-

Great Cue! His custom work is meticulous. He mentioned that your cue has a titanium pin as well, very cool. As you know, I just ordered a cue from Rick which will also be ebony on ebony, I am still working on finalizing the design with Rick. I sent him a deposit which will be in his mailbox when he returns from the DCC. I spoke with him at length over the phone and he was very interested in pleasing the customer. I ordered it based on all of the great feedback I have heard from Gforces, Jazz, lenoxmjs and others about the great hit of his cues. He said I will have it around April sometime. I will post pics as soon as it is completed.

Rick and my new cue.

Rick gave me my cue as soon as he arrived into the hotel. He had a few cues that he was going to sell and one he was going to play with.

We went down to watch some gambling matches and Rick was there with no cue, he couldnt wait and watch for very long before he got into a little action himself. He jumps off and says he needs to use my cue. I give him my cue to play some guy with and off he goes!

I stayed at the match I was sweating and finally go down there and he is laughing and smiles and told me, plays pretty sweet, I should have charged you more!

Rick is a blast to hang out with and is very knowledgable and will help identify and explain anything you ask.

I recommend his work and he is the easiest cuemaker I have ever dealt with.

Regards,
Ken

Yep, yours will be killer.

Yep he used the titanium pin to keep the weight down. I had asked for 19-19.5 and it weights 18.9. He said the cue came together so easy and weighs so close he didnt to make any adjustment until I played with it. Balance is perfect so again he was right. Pretty amazing as he said he DID NOT core the ebony.

The ringwork is actually solid ivory with black veneers and is so neet.

Yes, we talked about your cue and Rick is really excited about it. I wont spill the beans about the veneers, but Rick is excited about building it.

I get first look at your pics when you get it!

Your friend in pool,
Ken

Ken-

Very Cool. That story about him using your cue to get in a game was great. He is a very personable guy and easily the easiest cuemaker to work with that I have spoken with.

Rick said he never cores his cues and that is fine with me because I want the most forward balance possible, as I am 5'8" and like to hold the cue as close to the balance point as possible. I hope it will be 19.5-20" from the butt. I am going to get the Ivory Hoppe Ring and Joint like yours (made that decision before I saw your original post), not trying to copy, but it is such a cool look. It is great to work with a CM who really is interested in building a cue. You get first dibs on the pics, should be awesome.

Take care for now-

Congrats on the new cue. It looks awesome!

Rick Howard's cues are for real. I used to own the ebony on ebony 6 pointer that Lenoxmjs calls his favorite all time hitter. I thought the cue played amazingly, as well. It's too bad I was caught up in the whole cue buying game... I sold that cue very cheap in order to purchase a cue that was much, much more expensive but didn't offer a better hit...:( Oh, Well. Sometimes you have to learn from your own mistakes.

Happy shooting,
-Shane

Man am I glad I saw this thread!

I just fired off my order and deposit to Rick as well. Mine won't be as elaborate as this one, but it will be fairly... unique.

Don't worry. You KNOW I'll post pics as soon as I get it!!!

Ken that is an awesome cue.... I saw it when it was just a forearm sitting in Ricks shop. I knew then that it would be a great looking cue...the pictures really dont do the points any justice!!!!

Thanks for the comments and PMs

All -

Thanks guys. I have been playing with a JF era Southwest cue prior to getting cue. Ricks cue hits just a tad stiffer. I use the same tips on both cues (Moori-S).

My buddy here in town has several of Ricks cues, and his titlist conversion cue plays identical to mine.

Do I get a percentage?

Guys -

Thanks for all of the emails and private messages. I have been told that 5 cues have been ordered from this thread.

OMG! I should get a percentage!

YOU ALL OWE ME PICS OF ALL CUES ORDERED FROM THIS THREAD!

Good luck and thanks again!

Ken

Rick and I finalized the design for my cue yesterday. I cannot wait to get it. I will definitely post pictures when it is complete.

That's a sharp looking cue!

I have played his cues for almost 10 years, they shoot really strong. I had this one made back in '99

How often do you get to go into Ricks shop?

My buddy and I want to go down there, but we live in Terre Haute, Indiana so its a haul to say the least.
