My review of Velocity Pro

First off I want to say thanks to Dartman again for the cloth.

I decided to go with the Olive Green since they were out of the Tourney green and pro blue. I'm not a fan of the darker clothes, but since it was the best I could do at the time I'm happy with it. The cloth shows some burn marks(not too bad tho), but I'm sure as I play the cloth will fade some.

On the speed side, it is very fast...super fast. Since it is new I am experiencing a good amount of skidding, I'm not sure how long that will take to change. Tho it skids and is very quick, I get great action on the cue ball. The cloth reacts to the english on the ball very well, I don't have to overstroke it by any means. The Draw shot...its a cinch 9ft travel on the draw is very easy. I find that the cloth makes it easier to focus on the quality of my stroke, which will help me to deliver more accurately on other tables.

All that said, I would rather simonis...I find that there is less skid upon new simonis. BUT, since I had to save a few dollars I will say that I am very happy with the performance of this cloth. Especially after the peach fuzz is gone that skid is gonna go away, and I can't wait. So if anyone can't muster the cash for simonis...the velocity pro is a great substitute, especially if you like a quick table.

Oh just to add I'm playing with a GARBAGE ball set for now, and my rails are not fully tightened down yet(BROKE MY CRAFTSMAN SOCKET WRENCH!!!, so got to go get a new one to finish) Like I said the rails are not tight so play is slower than it should be, even still I was super impressed with the speed and playability of the cloth. So a nice set of centennials and tight rails...its gonna play wonderful.

How much is the price difference?

Thanks for your opinion, I may try it in my pool hall on a couple of table later this year. I also appreciate the way you did your review, it was very professional, please keep it up dated as the cloth wears.

Take care

How much is the price difference?

about $100 bt the Simonis HR and the Velocity Pro. I purchased the Velocity Pro for $129 and the Simonis HR was around $230. (My table is Oversized 8')
(Simonis 860 HR and Simonis 860 are equal price) So at a HUGE savings, I'd definitely say its comparable quality/price...as I said I prefer Simonis. Now Craig's idea to use it in a pool hall it would be a large savings and could total into the thousands depending on how many tables you have. Biggest problem I got so far was the skid, but like everyone knows that only lasts so long. My self if your not getting Simonis or Velocity...then you might as well just not even recover your table, especially with pricing on the velocity. Work has been slow and I needed the extra hundred...normally I expect non simonis cloth to be sub-par, and just a plain old let down. I'm glad I was able to save the bill and still get results from the cloth.

Craig do you know of a way to de-peach the table, lessen the time to wear it out a little to get rid of that skid? How would Ironing maybe with a little starch work? (Maybe not that might make it play fast as plain slate) I wish I had some sort of little Peach Fuzz razor for 13yr olds....wa-la just the weave left! :)

Oh and thanks for the rep guys, and the nice comment Craig glad you liked how I did the review.

Wipe the table down with a damp (wrung out) microfiber cloth.

FWIW Velocity Burgundy and Camel join Pro Blue and Pro Green on the out of stock list.
Expected back in around the end of the year but no promises.

Some other vendors may still have these colors but not many carry Velocity.

Really!

Thanks for the 411 on the microfiber cloth rick...will try that out tomorrow.:clapping:

Out of curiosity, how is the cloth holding up, and has the performance changed?

Not to hijack, but did you consider the tournament 3030 as a less expensive Simonis alternative? I've played on it once, and really liked it.

For what it's worth, I have olive cloth on my home table (Simonis 860) and everyone who plays on it comments that they like the color.

after having the cloth on the table for nearly 2 years I have to say that its very good quality........if you are looking to save money (if you can get the right color in this still)and still want a high quality cloth this is a good one.

I just put steel grey on a couple tables. Really like it but the euro blue is still impossible to find.

great thread

Hello, I'm new to this site and loving it. I need to recover my table not because the felt is bad but I just purchased a GC1 and the felt is red, say no more. I too am on a budget so I was looking at the following Velocity pro 21oz or the proform the proform is a 10% 30% wool nylon at $170.00 the velocity pro 85% 15% and less at $159.00 looks like Velocity pro got a good look on this thread any feedback on the proform or other felts would be appreciated.

thanks,
Allen

Just my opinion, but if you are putting cloth on a home table, the cloth should last 2 years unless you are doing serious playing on the table. Now take that extra $100 it would take to get the Simonis over the other cloth mentioned and divide that by 24 months, and that gives you a little over $4.00.

It might be hard to justify the $100 right up front, but when you stretch it out over the life of the cloth it becomes much easier to handle. Why try out a cloth that you are not 100% sure of? Simonis is a tried and true cloth that many people love, and when looking for a worsted cloth it is hard to beat.

Now throw in the fact that you can get the 860HR and you will probably be able to stretch your recovering to 3 or 4 years.

Like I said before, just my opinion, take it for what you want, but coming from a mechanic's stand point, Simonis is the way to go.
