I enjoy posting on anything pool related, and I feel that I have something to contribute. Pool has been a large part of my life, and I am thankfull for the opportunities that it has provided for me. I'm 65 years old and my playing days are well behind me, and as I look back at the years that passed I can honestly say that I don't regret living
the life that I have chosen, in spite of the hard times and economics of the game.
Professional pool players have never been given the respect that they deserve simply because of the ecomomics of the game. If we were given the opportunity to play for large purses like golfers, tennis players, and other sports athletes, we too would be recognized as celebrities, and role models. Oh what a difference a few bucks make, somewhat of an injustice, but thats life.
I was fortunate because I have always had a good understanding about gambling, and just about all my decisions were based on risk against return, sometimes you can take the worst end of a proposition if your return is enough for you to justify it. With that said I would like to talk about the Galveston tournament, and tournaments of that sort.
I have read that there are people that choose not to support this tournament, and those people play our game and post on pool sites. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but to try and discourage other people from supporting something, that if successful, will advance the sport in every way, imo is selfish and short sighted.
I mentioned risk against return, lets put this in the right prospective. ( the way I see it ) First, from the professional pool players prospective. Just about all our playing years we have been playing for small rewards, why can't we have the opportunity to play for something substantial? ( this could be the start of something for them ) Yes I understand that this tournament doesn't have to be a success, but what do we have to lose in comparison to what we could gain. Support this tournament and give us a chance.
The possible prospective from the semi- pro and the amateur player.
Yes I would love to play in a tournament of this magnitude, it will be an experience and an opportunity to possibly play against the best players in our sport. And in addition to that I can use this as a valid excuse to
vacation, cool.
And that's the way I see it as well. So when you look at it from another prospective, I hope that you will support this tournament, and any other tournament that gives our sport a better chance of suceeding.
Thanks, Bill Incardona
