A few of you may have seen the tribute case I posted last month that was crafted by Al Kinghorn aka King Cases. The thread is here:

The case is for my daughter, Katherine. The cue you're about to see is for my son, James.
When I was considering cuemakers to undertake this project, I had a few in mind. I was talking to people and bouncing around names...I even spoke to a few cuemakers about it. It was during this process that I talked to a person I consider a very good friend, Tom aka Monstermash. Tom asked me if I'd like Paul to do it. To be honest, I hadn't even considered asking Paul. It's not because I don't admire his work...in fact, I've often found myself staring at images of various PFD cues he's done in the past. I just didn't think he'd be interested.
I was wrong. Tom put me in touch with Paul and I told him the circumstances surrounding this cue and he agreed to work with me on it. I had certain things that were 'must haves' and Paul made note of it. Paul worked with me on every detail of the cue and I know I drove him batty at times.
In fact, Paul and I had more than one 'bump in the road' during this process. That said, if I had to do it all over again, I'd choose Paul.
I'll be making a thread in the Cue Review section detailing my experience dealing with Paul and what people should expect when ordering a true, down to the last detail, custom cue. I'll try to talk about the good and bad and use this experience as a reference point. Edit: Here's the thread - http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?p=4830215#post4830215
Back on subject: The Cue.
This cue is exactly what I wanted for my permanent player. I wanted:
- a one piece handle made from highly figured cocobolo.
- no buttcap. I wanted the same piece of cocobolo from the base of the points to the end of the cue.
- an ebony forearm.
- 4 long points.
- a solid ivory joint.
- a blue veneer for my son's birthstone.
- real silver infinity bands to match the King case.
- my son's initials done in silver morse code. (all the dots and dashes in each ring are my son's initials
)
- 1/2" paper micarta ferrules
- the 314 2 fat shaft taper on both shafts.
- the cue had to be 18.9-19.2oz. It weighs 19.1.
- the overall design had to be clean and look like a player.
- the cue had to play stiff and feel like I was driving a truck through warm butter.
To Paul's credit, he delivered. He made my imagination a reality. He hit every one of my requirements. The cue not only exceeded my expectations cosmetically, it plays exactly how I hoped it would play.
Thank you, Paul Drexler. Thank you, Tom aka Monstermash for laying the groundwork for this.
James, this is for you, kid!
(Any imperfections in the pictures are dust from my pool table. The fit and finish are perfect)
