A few of you may have seen the tribute case I posted last month that was crafted by Al Kinghorn aka King Cases. The thread is here:

http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=367807&highlight=tribute

The case is for my daughter, Katherine. The cue you're about to see is for my son, James.

When I was considering cuemakers to undertake this project, I had a few in mind. I was talking to people and bouncing around names...I even spoke to a few cuemakers about it. It was during this process that I talked to a person I consider a very good friend, Tom aka Monstermash. Tom asked me if I'd like Paul to do it. To be honest, I hadn't even considered asking Paul. It's not because I don't admire his work...in fact, I've often found myself staring at images of various PFD cues he's done in the past. I just didn't think he'd be interested.

I was wrong. Tom put me in touch with Paul and I told him the circumstances surrounding this cue and he agreed to work with me on it. I had certain things that were 'must haves' and Paul made note of it. Paul worked with me on every detail of the cue and I know I drove him batty at times.

In fact, Paul and I had more than one 'bump in the road' during this process. That said, if I had to do it all over again, I'd choose Paul.

I'll be making a thread in the Cue Review section detailing my experience dealing with Paul and what people should expect when ordering a true, down to the last detail, custom cue. I'll try to talk about the good and bad and use this experience as a reference point. Edit: Here's the thread - http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?p=4830215#post4830215

Back on subject: The Cue.

This cue is exactly what I wanted for my permanent player. I wanted:

- a one piece handle made from highly figured cocobolo.
- no buttcap. I wanted the same piece of cocobolo from the base of the points to the end of the cue.
- an ebony forearm.
- 4 long points.
- a solid ivory joint.
- a blue veneer for my son's birthstone.
- real silver infinity bands to match the King case.
- my son's initials done in silver morse code. (all the dots and dashes in each ring are my son's initials :D )
- 1/2" paper micarta ferrules
- the 314 2 fat shaft taper on both shafts.
- the cue had to be 18.9-19.2oz. It weighs 19.1.
- the overall design had to be clean and look like a player.
- the cue had to play stiff and feel like I was driving a truck through warm butter.

To Paul's credit, he delivered. He made my imagination a reality. He hit every one of my requirements. The cue not only exceeded my expectations cosmetically, it plays exactly how I hoped it would play.

Thank you, Paul Drexler. Thank you, Tom aka Monstermash for laying the groundwork for this.

James, this is for you, kid! :p

(Any imperfections in the pictures are dust from my pool table. The fit and finish are perfect)

It's interesting how the silver bands are inlaid into the rings.
I also like the Morse Code bands, the veneers, the silver nameplate, and the wood.
Very nice cue, and a compelling story

The cocobolo is awesome, the infinity bands are stunning, and those morse code rings with your son's initials..... Pure genius! Whoever came up with that idea is brilliant! :p

Thanks to everyone for the kind words.

Tom, thank you for making this happen. Thank you for YOUR idea to do the morse code in the ringwork

I love you. xoxoxox.

That's a lovely cue and I would've done the same with Cocobolo extending all the way to the butt cap if such beautiful wood is involved.

Gorgeous ringwork and that morse code is not just a looker but also very thoughtful.

Importantly this cue holds great meaning and i see it becoming an heirloom in your family. Congrats.

Hey Mike,

Love that cue also. It is awesome. But that is to be expected from one of the best CMs on the planet.

Enjoy,

Rick

All I see is love. A Cue Maker who loves his customers. A Player that loves the game. A man who loves his son.

Congrates, I don't see how you could miss a ball.

Cocobolo madness! Happy you got your Keeper! Nice work on this cue all around!
Shoot Straight ; )

Katie tomatie

You should have had a tomato inlayed somewhere. My Katie has guitars in her Cue. Only a Katie can be a real tomato. My Katie is all grown up now and a Micro Biologist.
They grow up fast.
Congrats,
Nick :)
