My Varney Nightmare

Sorry this in in the wrong section but wanted you guys to see this as well

I hesitate to post this, and only am at the advice of about 7 others i have shared this story with.

I have been MORE than patient and just cannot get a response and a FIRM date so i have resorted to this.

HERE GOES


I started a thread in June 07, and said i was looking for an ebony cuehttp://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=66655.

Varney sent me a pm and said he could make me what i wanted which was an ebony sneaky with an IVORY joint 57 1/2 inches for 450. I told him that was more than i wanted to spend and didnt really want to wait as i had a child coming soon and was going to quit playing after she was born then anyway. He then replied back that he would do it for 400 and already had a blank ready someone cancelled and instead of 90 days like normal it would only be 60 days

I said cool that sounds good whats next. He said the sooner you paypal me the sooner i can get it done. So i sent him the money that day. A few days later i checked back and gave him all my specs and he replied back and said, no problem but you do know i dont use REAL IVORY on my cues . I said fine because the price seemed reasonable anyway and i was excited to try out the cue.

Since june 29th he has promised me 8 diferent delivery times. I have pm'd him about thosands of times and he wouldnt answer then i would get from him " its all down hill from here". First it was sorry its late you will have it by October, then For sure by december. I told him i wanted to use it at the derby and he said no problem last week of December . Then he said late January, then he said March. Then i didn;t hear from him for awhile and started posting about here in some threads and he told me that wont get my cue any faster lol. This is the last exchange on June 4th..................

Give me a break, i have asked you 6 times for a date and can n ot get one. I just talked to cajunbarboxplayer and he told me he ORDERED his cue in December and he has got it already. I understand if he is your buddy thats cool but , I ordered mine in JUNE and you said it would only be 60 days (yes 60) because you had a blank done already. Well it is May and i have had no communication since FEB. This is unexceptable. I have not started a thread and have only posted my experience in them about the communication which you obviously ignore. I told you before i order tons of cues from prolific makers and this is an utter disgrace on your end. If you ****ed up just tell me. If not i expect an answer and a FIRM date of delivery. I dont want it rushed and am trying not to be a dick but its ridiculous

That is the where i stand now NO CUE and havent really said a word. I hear these people on here complain about 9 months when he told then 90 days well how do you like this..............

With that said i have a few questions for KV i demand an answer for. As many of my friends here know i have the good fortune to be married to a lawyer and she hates pool but is not happy about this and thinks i should pursue legal action.

I have told her of the close knit community here and that it would work out,, well that was 6 months ago

Now for my questions to KV

How on earth to you think this is exceptable?

Why would you tell me 60 days and then it be almost a YEAR and i still have no cue?

How can at least 10 people on here who ordered a cue after me get theirs already and why?

What is the f$%^%ing date i am getting my cue?

Did you mess it up? and if you did why did you not tell me it would be longer?

Do you think i am out of line by being upset? because you act like you do in the forums


If anyone else has any other questions please feel free to ask, I really want to hear the response.

And if any of his BUDDIES chime in i might just go APES$$T becasue i am not in the mood to be told "i am a hater" or " give the guy a break" It is way past that point for me

That really sucks. To be completely honest with you this horror story is most definately not the first I have heard on AZ. Mr. Varney I think your cue are great and I have played with some, I have thought about buying a Varney J/B from the forum many times but I would buy second hand off the forum before I would order one. Sorry to hear you are having so much trouble and I hope for your sake everything turns out ok.

I have you back Cincyman, I have been watching this gentleman talk $hit, threaten forum members, pay / give free gifts to those who support his tactics for more than two years. His sales tactics, and his mightier than thou attitude, all point to his lack of Character, and I was certain it was just matter of time before his Boastful ways would over ride his line of Bull $hit.

But, I do not just Blame Kevin for getting away with this crap for so long, I also place equal blame on those who have supported him no matter what he did to other forum members. These people were in direct contact with Kevin, and they planned their foolish attacks on forum members who were tired of Kevin's deceptive behavior. Now I say deceptive, simple because these same people were also drumming up business for Kevin, they did this by contacting new members who asked for information about cues. This was all part of Kevin's plan to get peoples money and many fell into this trap. In return for their service as loyal Varney Customers, who would drop his name into every possible thread, they were give special gifts. These gifts may have been cue repair, free Sneaky Pete's or Jump Break cues, but what ever the reward, they sacrificed their integrity along with Kevin, and they should not be forgotten for it.

Some people may say that I am Jealous of Kevin, that I am just a hater, or that for some other reason I have it out for Kevin, but the truth is I am just tired of Kevin's behavior. No forum member should be deceived, Lied to, or cheated when doing business on this forum, AZ Billiards can only be a safe place if all of the membership stands up for what is right. In the recent past many have forgotten how important this is and because of this things have come to this. I have put my reputation on the line to expose this, and I am certain that many are tired of all this and also tired of hearing from me, however, I would do it all again given the same situation without a second thought.

Now I am certain Kevin, that you will post at some point, and say that the Mod's have warned you not get involved, and that I have it out for you, or I am trying to run you off AZ, or I am a manwus, or whatever.:boring: But Kevin you have dug your own hole, I told you that you were heading down a road you did not want to travel, well Kevin you have finally hit the wall at the end of the tunnel. All I can say Kevin is do the right thing for these people, they deserve no less, totally come clean, you will feel better in the morning.:wink2:

I say you go ahead and put your wife to work. Nothing's going to change here, unfortunately. The same group of morons will still chime in on KV's behalf, and sing praises for his crappy cues. Everytime he uploads a pic in the gallery section someone will quip: "awesome cue!" "great satin finish!" or some such nonsense.

To any nubs looking in it'll seem like a genuine controversy, where none actually exists. Just one crook of a cuemaker who overcharges and underdelivers and his clownish clan of clueless fans vs. the rest of the world.

i'd have to guess that at least 3 of the people that chime in to defend varney are actually him. the accounts were started close enough together and they only seem to post in defense of him. apparently nothing else on az interests them

Several hundred happy Varney owners now finally here is one who's not happy. Of course who didn't expect it. I'm sure it was a very fair & honest review too ...LOL

I'm sorry to hear that you're having this trouble cincyman, I really hope that you can get this sorted out buddy.

I was considering the possibility of going down the custom road to have a matching pair of cues made, but this has put me clean off the idea of custom cues completely, feck that for a game of darts!!!

I think that I'll go back to production cues, less hassle and less expence involved!!!

I said it was honest and it was. The cue was guaranteed to hit the best of any cue i have ever played with and i can comfortably say it doesn't .

Have you had a cue you didnt like??? what happened when you didnt like it? are these tough questions?

I am pissed about the situation and it does not play the "best cue ever" but it plays ok whats wrong with that?

Did i do something wrong ? Do i have to like it ? Are you writing a book as well?

I think i was more than fair and should be more harsh but i am not that type sorry.

One last thing my cajun friend .... you ever heard of SOUTHWEST .. you have great well i had one and guess what ............I sold it because you know why........( guess) i didnt like it. I have played with many i liked but the one i had i didnt like it.

Laurie and her followers didnt even say a word when i sold it. She had common sense and realized she shouldnt throw her 2 cents in because it probably made her sound uneducated on the subject.

Don't give up on custom cues. Jack Madden makes one of the best cues out there and you can take his word to the bank.

All is well as I said......... honest review

I am very very happy with mine.....I shot with a vast numbre of different customs......And this Varney that I own is by far the best I've had the pleasure but shooting with.....And that ranges from Jenson, GEM, R. Black, S. Klein, Schon ( if you wanna consider that high-end altho not a custom) and quite a few others.....

Everyone has their own lil hit that they like! Everyone is different....It is jsut obvious THAT Varney you have just does not have the hit you like..... When I ordered mine I was very strict bout the hit I wanted and Kevin nailed it!

You ***** about the finish like many have.....if you have failed to notice.....Kevin does not spray a thick load of finish to that glossy fiish unless requested.....I presonally hate that finish and i asked for that nice satin finish... Its a tad tacky but I like that in a wrapless cue.....It wont slide in my hand while I stroke the cue....

Promises not delivered.....BOOHOO... get over it........Life and nothing is perfect.

I am dead sure there will be quite a few peeps on this very ofrum interested in buying that cue from you....Obviously there is a reason for it...

Go ahead and sell the cue.... get your cash......and then move on.

Thanks Tommie, I appreciate it buddy and I know that Jack's word is solid, as with many cuemakers out there, but it's far too much hassle and expence to have to ask about each and every cuemaker, let alone have a custom cue made for me, and so I'm quite happy to just go back to shooting with a production cue.

how old are you? leave him alone he simply said it is not the best cue he's ever shot with and u jump all over him. so what if your varney is perfect, to him, the one he got isnt end of story, stop trying to drag out the argument. you plainly acknowledge everyone likes different cues but for some reason cant accept the fact that he doesnt like the varney...let it go.

no matter how many threads by different members that have negative things to say about varney get started there're still people that swear he's the next balabushka. lets face it the guy builds a decent looking cue for a PJ but his customer service negates the hit of his cue.

pay your cash up front and wait until you get angry enough to threaten legal action and then maybe you might get your cue! what kind of business ethic is that? i've had custom cues built before and both times the cuemakers called me before i called them to make sure everything was right. because they didn't just take my cash and lose my information (ie cash wan't all that was important to them!)

i wish i knew what to say to you, but unfortunately i don't. i can express only this:

it is not because i don't have my thoughts; but I don't want to alienate you; i just hope you can appreciate the feelings of other folks' true feelings on AzB, just like i am trying to appreciate your true feelings about kevin and your varney cue. there is no difference to me.

is it so impossible for you to realize that your experience is not the same as others here, that you have to 'mock' all who share 'their own points of view' being different than yours; be it experience with kv's cues or his manner of doing business?

maybe there are some Az'ers who went to far against kv. maybe so. but imo with all you have said you have not helped kevin; or, more precisely, you have hurt him more than helped him. imo.

manwon is my friend, but i have never backed him in these issues or any other issues here, or ever for that matter. i've never felt the need to do so and i am sure you do not need to talk for kevin. he is a man and i know him and know he can speak for himself. maybe i lost credibility to some, because i felt a need to back kevin thru some of these threads. and the reason is really simple. i feel he has had a really tough year with heartfelt family issues. too much for any man to endure easily, and maybe a bit more, but I will leave that unsaid.

again, imo: did he screw up sometimes; yes (imo). did he disappoint customers sometimes, yes (imo). do you dispute this?

that said, i am kevin's friend too. and in so being, i feel it is my obligation as a friend to kevin to be 100% truthful to him. and in whatever i did, or did not do, any way you see it, or know about it, who was a better friend? okay, maybe you, but to my way of thinking, not so. just my opinion.

my hope is that all will be well for all of us here on AzB. you will learn something hopefully, kevin will learn something hopefully, just like i did.
