Can anyone tell me what the base wood in this Titlist is? I have this nice Scruggs Titlist conversion, and never knew what the wood was. I believe it's the same as this guy's, who suggests that his is mahogany, and he has much closer up pictures.

I'm going to take a stab at Jatoba (or Brazilian Cherry). It's a very stable wood with some good wght. to it. Lovely pic of the veneers BTW. Thank you.
 
So definitely not mahogany then? Check this guy's pics for a close-up. Mine looks just like his. I'll be glad to know, as I've wondered for quite some time.

Well see, that's the thing, he's not sure his is mahogany either. FWIW, I'm staying with Jatoba. It's a great wood, particularly in this application. I use it here & there when it's needed. KJ
 
i gotta go with KJ here.Mahogany is very light,lighter tahn Maple and also very soft.if that cue was mahogany it would weigh in 16 range without weight.
 
When reading the Jatoba Description, it seems to fit.

The wood is an attractive burgundy, deep red, or orange tone, and some of it can even have dark black stripes highlighting a strong visible grain pattern. It can exhibit quite a large colour variation from one board to the next. The heartwood varies in colour from a salmon red to an orange brown when it is freshly cut which darkens to a red brown when seasoned.

ICBW, but it looks like mahogany to me.

It could be Mahogany or Jatoba, I have also seen this wood used in a number of Titlists and Brunswick 26 1/2 pre-titlist cues in fact I have the same wood in a playing cue I made for myself. The cue pictured below was converted from a Brunswick 26 1/2.

i just looked up Jatoba in the Wood Explorer and it really isn't much heavier than Mahogany so i guess it would behard to tell by wieght.it is almost 3 times harder though.

This conversion was done for me by James White. As for the wood, here is what he "thought" it is.

"I believe the dark wood is Sucupira. A wood from South America that is also used for flooring, turnery, etc."
