Let's Just Play To Play!!
Silver Member
i had a rather bad night last night, i went to my local bar where i shoot at normally 3 or 4 nights a week, was on my usual table just playing 14.1 with an old friend, we've been doing this for beers for more than 5 years now. all night long there was a young punk on the table next to us drinking like a fish, by 9 o'clock he was pretty drunk. about 10 o'clock or so i went to the restroom, leaving my old Meucci HOF2 leaning against my chair, my buddy sitting at the table. when i return i find my buddy and this young kid face to face both with a death grip on my cue, the kid comes over when i'm gone and just picks up the cue and tries to walk over to his table, there are several cues in the rack that have been given to the owner that have wraps and designs on them, just walmart cheapies, i figure the kid just thought mine was one of them, my buddy tried to explain to him that this cue wasn't a house cue. when i stepped in to break it up this guys buddy comes in with a wild punch and i avoid it enough to just get caught in the shoulder, before i could retaliate a couple of the regulars grabbed him and escorted him to the door, the kid who has my cue lets go as i'm watching his buddy and hits me in the side of the head with a rather weak punch, needless to say he broke 2 of my fingers when his head "accidently" hit my hand. he was escorted out too. about a half hour later a deputy sherriff shows up and says he wants to pick up so and so's cue that was left when he was thrown out, i tell him the kid shot with a house cue all night, he brings the kid in and points out my cue, even though i have 20 witnesses that say i have that cue with me every week, he still takes it, i called the sheriif's department this morning and they say i have to show proof of ownershipto pick it up. what if anything can i do, i know it's just an old Meucci but thats not the point it's mine and i would like to get it back. any help would be appreciated.

Damn that hurts

Do you have any pictures of you with the cue? Who did you buy it from and when or where? I can't believe the ignorance of the officer in question to not look at all the facts in this situation. Where was the room owner in all of this or employees that know you in that room. It as deplorable that this sor tof thing happened. I wish you all the best in your recovery. Sean

Wow! That’s pretty rough, you break two fingers and the guy makes off with your cue. Nice!

I guess I might try to write a letter stating that the cue is yours, with a full description and have anyone and everyone that will back you up sign it. And then bring that to the police station as proof.

Wait, the sheriff let the kid pick out the cue and then kept it at the station? That's weird. Hope you get it back.

Stupid doughnut brained sheriff!!   Go pour some coffee over his head to soften it some!

You must know someone who can write out a reciept for you.

I ran into the same thing years ago. Don't break your fingers, grab a good solid wood rack. They are very persuasive.

Hmmm, Having your initials engraved might not be such a bad idea after all... :( A sad story indeed. Perhaps go back to the bar with a notary public, have witnesses sign statements, take that to the Sheriff's office?

No brainer.

If it really is a matter of principle,
contact a layer - threaten the sheriff with a lawsuit
that will include 250k for punative damages
and mention you can bring 2 dozen people to court

He'll cave

Lie detector test. Tell him you'll take one. If he doesn't return your cue you'll sue and go as public as possible. This crap really pisses me off. I'm sorry bro.

I don't have any initials on my cue(s) but I do have photographs of them on my carpet. Better than nothing ;)

Sorry to hear about your grief. What a pain!

I would ask Varney, BHQ or J&D to make you up a recipt, dated a few years ago with a description of the cue. Or even Martin jazznpool, he sells a ton of cues.:)

Obviously, this kid said this scuffle started because this kid thinks you had his cue and the police believed him.

I would first get a name of the officer in charge of holding the evidence, or whatever they call it there, it might be the officer who is handling the case, and ideally get a written assurance that the cue will stay locked up until you have time to respond. Since you don't have a receipt, you will need to be persistant with them and make sure they don't decide to just hand the cue over to the kid.

 The only explanation for this is the kid must be the mayors son!~

I have generic invoices here at work. I'd be happy to make you one and take a photo and post it here for you.

Got the cue back!!!

good news, after calming down yesterday i got thinking about it, about a year ago i switched shafts, i took a shaft off another Meucci with "almost" the same ringwork, that butt is warped and in my display case in my shop, i put the original shaft off the HOF2 in there with it, i took the old butt and shaft to the sheriffs dept. this morning, the deputy realized the butt and shaft they had doesn't match, but when he switched shafts he kinda chuckeled and said he knew it was mine to begin with but to keep trouble down in a bar with 30 people on my side being very aggressive he decided to just take it and let me pick it up the next day. he layed the cues and shafts out and took pictures just for thier records and had me fill out some papers. he then led me down to a room, on a set of shelves i estimated upwards of 50 cues, taken out of cars confiscated for drugs or what not, some were used in bars as weapons, he said he's been there for 14 years and no one ever comes to recover them, i seen Meucci's Vikings Joss Mezz, no Balabushkas, but alot of nice cues that are just sitting there going to waste, wish i knew how to get ahold of them. anyhow, thanks for all ideas, now all i gotta do is wait till the fingers heal and i'll be right back at it.

Police departments do auctions on stuff that was confiscated all the time. Maybe you ought to inquire about what they're gonna do with those cues and whether you can take'em off their hands for a good price. :D

That's good they didn't give you a hard time about it. And it sounds like you hit the jackpot of lost cues. I suggest you acquire them and distribute them to contributors to this thread.

This is the best route. I'm pretty certain that the other character has no idea of who made it, nor would he be able to describe any distinguishing marks and scars. Consider that once fake receipts start to appear, well, either party could play that game, and then it will once again come back to who can describe the cue, witnesses, etc.
