My wife found 2 matching motteys and a case listed on ebay and bid and won. Paid with paypal. When she told me about it I was a little leary of it. Here's the link

Now I get this email from the guy stating he can't take paypal. Here's what he wrote:
I'm sorry for the mix up, I do usually take pay pal that's why the PP logo is indicated in my auction' s ad, but I setup new bank account and I can't accept paypal payments at that moment.. Sorry. Please do a check or money order. If you have any questions don't hesitate to email me. Thank you and looking forward to hear from you.

Just doen't feel right to me. Can you guys help me out and give me advise?

Found his name...Kenneth A. Harvey.
Youngstown, OH 44507

Thanks

This is a hacked
ebay account.
If he chnaged bank accounts, there'd be no problem changing the bank accout to correspond to the pay pal account.

I've done it with credit cards and bank accounts.

This guy is out to get your money!
file with pay pAL FOR REFUND

If something doesn't feel right about a situation, I stay totally away from it. No "warm and fuzzy", no deal.

Sean's advice on COD is about the best you can do in this situation, but make certain you have gotten your money back from Paypal. Even then, I doubt the postman would let you open the package and inspect the goods prior to accepting them.

I wrote the guy who bought his lathe he had. This is what he wrote back to me:

I just wrote to Ebay. I paid with Pay pal and he told me he couldn't take it because of his bank and asked me to send a check. I had others e-mail me with concerns too.

I'm glad I cancelled my paypal.

THanks again everyone for your help.

Hey Rat, I emailed this dude 4 times with questions on the auction. I told him that if I won, I would come over with cash in hand. He never emailed back. Good call on getting back your cash. Stay far far away. By the way, I live like an hour from Youngstown.

no transactions in 6 years.looks like a hijacked account to me.get your paypal money back and tell him you want to use escrow for the deal.

Absolutely. No doubt.

if you do the COD make sure you can open the box before you pay,but i really don't see anything good coming out of this.

He wrote back this morning with his phone #413-638-2789

That's not Youngstown, oh. It's in Mass. DId a reverse phone lookup and not listed.

This auction sounds like a scam for sure, but in the future you might consider having your item shipped COD if you have any doubts. If it's a scam you can protect yourself by asking for a COD payment and it probably will end there, but if the seller is legitament and he wants to make a deal with you he should agree to a COD shipment. I've used Fedex COD a few times and it works very smoothly. You have to pay a little extra for the COD charges, but at least you can open the box before the driver leaves and if it's not the right item just tape it back up and refuse delivery. If it is what you bought then the COD payment is sent to the seller over night if you use Fedex.
