needle in a haystack...

  • I'd like a plain 4 point cue made by common builders such Gilbert, or comparable builder.

  • Andy may price his simpler cues for any player to own...but I'll never call him common. Andy Gilbert is da man. His high end stuff is well worthy of the best collections anywhere.

Post some specs and somebody can make a pickup for you at the Super Billiards Expo. Gilbert Custom Cues will be there.

PS... cool that you're insisting on American workmanship.

Good luck finding the right fit

I have this Bob Frey plain jane for 475. Plays just like a Scruggs for comparison.

Hey Kevin! Thanks for the offer bro, I'll keep it in mind.

Bump!

BUMP for some better offers for my obviously blind in one eye and can't see out the other, ass! lmao! :rotflmao1:

FWIW, I'm surprised you didn't swing by Valley Forge @ the Super Billiards Expo. There were PLENTY of cues you could have tried in that range.

If you were there and weren't able to find anything, then I wish you well in your search.

Bump to the front cuz I'm STILL LOOKING!

There so many new cue makers out there that can offer good value for the money nowadays. Unless you have the cue in hand to inspect it's a crap shoot.
If you are looking for a pure shooter, rely on a name you trust. Very few people got to buy Schicks for 500.00 and ended with a pot of gold.
Simply stated get what you want.
I like to buy cues from new makers, but I have been in the cue world for a while and know what I am looking for. Tightness of points , veneers, symmetry and alignment of inlays as well as finish make a difference
500.00 is enough to get you a nice cue to play with. My daily player is a 2500.00, I play with it because I like it , others are put up.
Cues are like women, when you see your cue you will know it.

I think his(Jim Buss) sneakies are a little more expensive than that. Last I checked they were about $800 with two shafts and that was thru cue and cushion which is where he likes to do most of his business. And you can't go wrong with a gilbert or a buss but I'm very bias since I have and consistently use both.

As stated in my title, I'm obviously looking for a needle in a haystack. I've noticed this place becoming more collector-oriented than player-oriented, so my search may come up empty, but I'm gonna look anyways. My other half has told me tonight that it would be OK to get a new cue as ong as I was going to be happy with what I got instead of selling i
er. What's out here for around $500ish? I'd like a plain 4 point cue made by comm

comparable builder. I'd like no phillipine cues, and nothing made overseas. Production cues are very limited but Schon may be considered if right cue/price. Lets see what's out there please!

p.s. I'd love to try a Sly but since I'm not familiar with his work, I'm not gonna just get one on a whim. I wanna know what I'm getting guys. Thanks in advance, Jeff
Bob Dzuricky is nice to work with and lots of bang for the buck.

Cue

dukeboy,

why didn't you buy back the purpleheart dz cue when you had the chance?
The asking price seemed pretty fair.
Not knocking you at all, just curious.

Cuz I didn't want it for what he wanted for it.

Wanted cue

okay, i have several cues that i would be willing to sell.

So far everything that has been offered is either not what you want or has been a bad deal.

Please, let everyone know what you are looking for so we are not all wasting our time.

Thanks,

I was looking to see what you all thought was worth $500, and have gotten some very disappointing answers...AND a couple of ignorant, unnecessary comments. Some of what was offered to me was definitely NOT worth $500 IMO, you've got to be kidding me. I said I'd like a 4 point w/o veneers, plain no inlay cue as stated above. I've gotten a little inside tip on a cue from a builder who's very well known so I'm awaiting his return from where he went. I give up in this thread, please let it die as it was getting me nowhere anyways. Thanks, Jeff
