New Billiard Painting in Progress

There have been other threads on the forum showing Billiards Artwork, but that Artwork was already completed and ready for sale or viewing. As I mentioned a couple of weeks ago in my other Billiard Painting thread, I have started a new Billiard themed Painting and I thought it might be interesting to document the process of its creation from start to finish here on AZB. With each step of progress I make on it I will post new photos of that progress.

I will also be loading the complete process in a video to my YouTube Channel upon its completion. You can see more of my Artwork there.

This is on a 15 x 30 stretched canvas and is being done entirely with Oil Paint.
The tentative title of it for now is - "9 Ball for the Money"

This 1st photo is the Rough Sketch on the Canvas.
The 2nd Photo is the Sketch Finalized
In the 3rd Photo I have begun putting in the Underpainting, which is basically a Primer Coat.

A cigarette burning on the rail might be a nice touch? But not for Geno. Johnnyt
 
Put a guy sharking you by standing behind the pocket the 9 is heading for.... Then it would be realistic. Hehe, jk, nice job.

One minor point, if you can look at it before you get in too deep... the angle of the rails on the back pocket looks a little off. Unless it is intentional, you may want to open up the angle of the rails closest to the shooter. Just a thought, and sorry for interjecting if you weren't looking for feedback.

Yea, I haven't really decided yet what's going to be in that space behind the pool table, that's not a bad idea about having someone standing there.

If you're talking about the angle of the jaw on the back right hand pocket, the end rail part of it, yea, that's been my trouble spot so far on this one, I've already adjusted it twice and can see that it does need to open up a bit more. I'll adjust it before I start the next layer. That's one reason I take photos of my works in progress, sometimes I can see things in a photo better than looking at the painting as I'm working on it. The Camera don't Lie, your Eyes will!

Don't worry about giving me Feedback, I wouldn't have put this on here if I was afraid of a little bit of Feedback! besides, the more eyes looking at it, the Better!:cool:

Looks great....but I agree the right corner pocket looks a little off, and the stripe on the 9-ball seems a little off. Beautiful work though! :)
 
Nice start, great drafting, but want to add a couple thoughts...1) the stripe on the 9 doesn't look symmetrical, and 2) why make the 9 a hanger? why not a tough shot that raises interest and drama for the hundo? Hope to see the final product, good work.

Very nice. Love seeing the progression pics! I think you just inspired me to create an original piece for my space :)

See, that's why I put this project on the forum, have you guys help me see all of the things that aren't quite right, so I can fix them before I get to far along! Oh, and keep in mind, I am just getting started on this, there's still a long ways to go before it's finished. The stripe on the 9 ball, good catch guys, but nobody has seen the Oval the 9 sits in instead of a circle, and I've been looking more at that than the stripe, so now I can fix both at the same time. Hopefully I've got that corner pocket fixed now, or at least better.

The reason the 9 is a Hanger is, isn't that the shot we would all want to have to finish a game or a set for the Money!
 
Corrections

OK, I've made a few corrections and adjustments. There were so many issues with the 9 Ball that I just started over on it, hope everyone's happier with it now. I changed the angles going into the pockets a little bit also, not really too worried about them now as in the end result it will be so dark in that back right hand pocket that you will see very little detail anyway. I moved one of the measles on the cue ball a little closer to the edge.

I decided to go with a very dark background behind the table, as I want to keep the focus on the action on the table.

Looks awesome!

I think adding a cube of chalk up on one of the rails would be a cool little touch. Looking forward to the finished product.
 
A pool hall i used to go to when I was younger had a painting or poster of nearly exactly this on the wall except the money was on the rail not on the table, and I think the shot was on the one in the side and a clear path to a carom into the 9 in the corner.

I agree with the idea that the shot on the 9 should be a tougher shot. Keepem guessin.

Shows you how art is interpreted differently by everyone. I saw a whole different scenario where the loser threw the c-note on the table because the shooter had only a hanger left. Otherwise why is the money there?

Boy are you brave! I've never seen an artist who wanted anyone to see his work before it is complete. Having said that, my 2 cents is that the 9 ball is just way too big. I could be wrong, but I first noticed that the left rail next to the 9 ball appears to be at best half the height of the 9 ball, then it looked like the 9 was a little big for the pocket. I think the 9 in your painting is more like a baseball or not quite a softball size. If you had a photo of the same setup (I'd be happy to shoot a pic and upload it if you want) maybe it would show what I mean.
