Subject: Real PC Virus Alert!

I did confirm it on Snopes before I sent it out?

Attention !!!

Anyone-using Internet mail such as Yahoo, Hotmail, AOL and so on.

This information arrived this morning, Direct from both Microsoft and
Norton.
Please send it to everybody you know who has access to the Internet.

You may receive an apparently harmless e-mail titled 'Mail Server Report'

If you open either file, a message will appear on your screen saying:
'It is too late now, your life is no longer beautiful.'

Subsequently you will LOSE EVERYTHING IN YOUR PC, And the person who
sent it to you will gain access to your name, e-mail and password.

This is a new virus which started to circulate on Saturday afternoon.
AOL has already confirmed the severity, and the anti virus software's
are not capable of destroying it.

The virus has been created by a hacker who calls himself 'life owner'.

PLEASE SEND A COPY OF THIS E-MAIL TO ALL YOUR FRIENDS, And ask them to
PASS IT ON IMMEDIATELY!

THIS HAS BEEN CONFIRMED BY SNOPES

You might want to edit them out of the quote too! (Or I'm going to spam them and make tons of cash!)

And remember kids, never open a file if you don't know what it is.

Glen,

You should have read the entire snopes article before you posted this. There IS a worm going around, but it is not accurately described in your post. There are MANY worms like this out on the internet. No need to send an email to everyone in your contact list. This is a common way for pranksters to attempt to shut down email servers: They create a plausible email that will prompt users to blast copies to everyone in their organization.. If only 10-20 do this, it can crash the email server, as there is the potential to generate upwards of 20,000 emails inside a minute or two. NOT good.

Friendly piece of advice: Any time you recieve an email that says "Forward to as many people as you can!" in any way shape or form, you can safely assume that it is either spam, or a prank of some sort. No matter how plausible, no matter what confirming link it has attached, it's still mostly likely spam or a prank.

Also, if it says "from Microsoft and Whoever". Microsoft does not send out virus notice in emails.

Actually, if you read the snopes (whoever they are) page closely it appears you are the victim of a hoax, the paragraph directly above the page you quoted from their site says the portion you posted is a hoax circulated in March 2008 connecting the current fairly benign worm to a real threat in 2006 called something like "it's a beautiful life"

I think you've been "punked"

There are virus for macs as well. Otherwise , there would not be antivirus software for them.
Just that you do not get much bang for your time compared to attacking a windows system.
