Here is the new carriage with Hand Wheel on the left. This carriage is mainly designed for my cue building lathe model or any tall headstock cue lathe.
Here is the list of design improvement over the taig carriage.
4.3" wide vs 3.3" ( wider is better, it hugs the dovetail on a bigger area for more over all stability and much lower pressure per square inch, which will yield less ware on your dovetail.)
Hand Wheel location 1.75" away from the edge, and a lot closer to the center than the standard carriage.( this will provide a much smoother carriage travel with almost no bending / twisting moment are. The original carriage tends to want twist when turning the hand wheel due to the hole being so close to the edge, in theory the closer the hand wheel is to the center of the carraige the lower is the bending torque exerted on either end of the carraige)
And last is the Gib, the changes made to the gib were mainly to reduce drag to anodized aluminum while maintaining all other stability parameters.
Pricing on this carriage is still in the works, but it will be offered as a $115 upgrade on my cue building lathe.
Best regards
