New things you used/bought/went to based on forum suggestions

While most of us are just simpleton players, our opinions do guide people to buy stuff and to go places.

If someone asks what shaft to try, they could spend $200 based on what we say.

What are some of the things you did/bought based on what other forum members suggested? Could be a new product, new place to play, tournament you did not know about, a $4,000 cue you ordered because someone said this maker was great, etc...

I just visited Ivory Billiards in MA because I have read some good things about them on here, it was a pretty good place, not busy when I got there, especially for a Friday night, but fun to play in. And by going there I got to see and play with a couple of Zinzola cues (current issues with him here nonwithstanding hehe), which I would not have been able to do otherwise. I also found that they have a Friday and Sat night tournament there which I plan on playing in at times and they also have an open 9 ball on Wed plus a "monthy" 10 ball tournament.

Also my thread on what to do in Vegas with my son guided me a bit, although we did not have a lot of time to try many things. We did go on the coaster in NY NY, and plan on heading to a few other places if we end up in Vegas again. Which we may as our league team is #1 this season by a LOT, and we will be in the end of year Vegas tournament.

I've bought just about one of everything but an aiming system. Best buys for me were MR, Cuetec R-360 cue, and Ridgeback rails. I got something out of all the videos I bought after my strokes to re learn just about everything. Johnnyt

Did you get info on those from here? Or just regular product info from ads or magazines? I was kinda curious how we have guided people to things/places as a group.

Maybe WE are the saviors of pool hehe. After all, we tell people about tournaments, product reviews, help out new players, get involved in teaching kids and trying to educate "bangers", and who knows how much more.

The posts on here are what finally pushed me over the edge to buy TAR ppvs and I'm glad I did. Also, posts on here about LD shafts along with OB making me aware of their brand through advertisements caused me to try one and I loved it and had to have it.

Kamui Gator Grip
Slug Doctor
various tips
A huge assortment of books and vids recommended to me from people here.
Pro Form Cloth
A couple music cd's from the song of the day thread
PPV pool matches
I've visited pool halls and restaurants on the recommendations of people on this site

I'm sure there are several things I am leaving out but that's all that comes to mind at the moment.

I have bought 3 items that I probably never bought if I had not stumbled across this forum a few years ago.

1. Custom cue.

While I love my custom and always got compliments on it whenever I pulled it out of the case it now sits in the closet.

2. Tips

I tried various tips based upon reviews on here and went back to what I used before joining this forum.

3. Chalk

I bought Kauai chalk and while I believe it performs as advertised it sits in my case.

After spending several thousand dollars over the last 2 years I have come to the conclusion that it don't matter what you buy.

The only requirements you need is a fairly straight cue

Properly shaped tip that will hold chalk

Feels good in your hands.

I've had several suggestions on how to get snot out of corduroy, but none of them have worked.

Various dinners/alcoholism with AZers.
Oh and drinks for PINKLADY (coming soon).

pretty much all pool and snooker cues I bought of this forum, after reading reviews and suggestions.

Gained tons of info about custom cues, good/bad cuemakers, different woods, etc.

When I was looking into purchasing my first "real" cue, I spent plenty of time here. I asked questions, and just observed in many threads, checking out people's opinions of production cues in my budget. Part of the reason i went with the McDermott I have now was due to opinions here on AZB. (The other parts were availability from the source I was using to purchase at the time.)

I chose my J&J break cue in a similar manner, led there from discussions here.

Very content with both purchases.

When I'm making a pool related purchase, I don't spend a nickel without doing research here first.

My last few AZB influenced purchases include an Al Romero in 2008 (sold, but not forgotten) and a custom Schmelke sneaky.

And milk duds from Jeff (pooldawg8).

I'm pretty sure I also used a thread here as a reference for a craigslist GCII restoration I did with my brother years ago. I'm not much of a poster, but I do get a lot of great info from these forums. Thanks for that AZB.

The gardeners wouldn't give you so much trouble on the pool table if you had a good aiming system.

Since I'm a relatively new player (2 years) and found AZB before I'd bought anything...I'd have to say that every one of my purchases has been influenced by what I've read here.

Most of the advice has been rock solid, but some (mostly books and videos) haven't lived up to my expectations. Different strokes for different folks.

i dont know how i forgot this in my earlier post.

my alex brick j/b .

in my opinion the best bang for the buck when it comes to a break cue.

i saw a few people in my pool hall and when i read some reviews on here i decided to pull the trigger and am glad i did.

i own my josey today because of az. specially jay helfert and ridewiththewind (lisa). I am very satisfied with it.

I don't think the cue helped my game but it gave me a sense of pride and joy with what I shoot with. (although I have abused it and will probably need to order a new shaft from keith soon)

other things i discovered via az:

milkduds
blackjack`s book
joe tucker`s book

Try this one, it's just a "touch" of inside information

Try this one, it's just a "touch" of inside information. ;)

1
Place the corduroy in a sink. Rinse it in lukewarm water and then spray the snotty area with a pre-wash laundry spray that contains enzymes. These are often labeled as sprays for protein-based stains. The enzymes help break these snot stains down.

2
Allow the product to remain on the snot for a few minutes. The package should indicate exactly how long you should leave it on--usually it's up to 15 minutes.

3
Place the corduroy in your washing machine. If you have other snotty corduroy items to wash, like corduroy towels, you can wash them with the corduroy.

4
Add detergent and a capful of laundry bleach. Wash the corduroy in warm water. If the snot remains after washing, re-treat it with the enzyme product and then let it soak in warm water for at least half an hour before rewashing.
