I just got activated to post on this forum which I think is awesome.

I'm the President of the Billiards club at the University of Texas and I just wanted to let anyone interested in Collegiate Billiards to feel free to contact me or even check it out on Facebook. There are some really spectacular young players here in Texas and most of them play at these tournaments hosted by different universities through the year.

I so glad to be a part of this forum and you will be hearing from me again soon!

Does the University have a Pool Room, or do you play off campus? If so how many tables, what kind of Tables, and can the Public use the facility for a per hour fee, like in some other places?

Hry there and welcome. We need more like you out there.

Yes the University has tables....most schools have rec centers somewhere in the middle of campus...we have 12 tables at UT at the Union Underground (our rec-room) but for our weekly meeting we only use the 9-footers; theres five of them and they are all Olhausen...they aren't perfect but were just re-felted with Centenial Cloth so definately get the job done....when we play against other schools we usually use local pool halls to hold the numbers we have....we hosted one here in Austin at Fast Eddies and had 75 turn out for the event!

Welcome to the forum, Texas Prez! I've played on those tables, at UT/Austin!
How many members do you have in the billiard club?

Welcome and Hook'em Horns! :grinning-moose:

I've played at the UT Union Underground before, the place is huge, with bowling lanes, air hockey and several types of pool tables. If I were living in Austin again I'd def be interested in playing at the Underground.

The Union Underground is opened to the public, however I think the rates are higher for non students. I've only been there twice. Does the UT-Austin Billiards club offer memberships to Texas-Exs, Grad Students or other non students?

Hello Texas Prez- I'm fairly new here too, but we've been licensing college products for four years now- let me know when you need some UT stuff for prizes, tournaments. We can "hook you up".

Let us know when you're having your next tournament.

Thanks for all the replies!

1. (about the club) UT Billiards is a club open to all grad students, staff, and students. Membership is not available to alum but alumni are always welcome at our weekly meetings (we play a small double-elim bracket, usually about 20 people and its just for fun). Memberships are more for the collegiate tournaments we play in around Texas.

2. Yes the Union is great...if you are in Austin and need a smoke-free place to play anyone is welcome to play there. Those nine-footers play pretty tough IMHO.

3. And thanks for the collegiate merch help... but as of right now we are not sponsored by the University so we aren't allowed to advertise UT trademarked logos (We are an official UT organization however, but right now we play AT UT and not FOR UT...yet) I say this because I am working on getting us University Sponsorship...several other schools are officially sponsored and we were at one time, past mis-management and probably poor leadership messed that up for us (I have to fix past presidents failures...and no I won't segway into a Obama Campaign ad..lol) but in the future I want to try and get us sponsored and kind of develop the Billiards community here in Austin... there is potential but it is definately not a Billard mecca yet!

Not until you put 760 Texas Orange on the tables, LOL
Best of luck down the road for your organization and welcome to the forum.

Austin has some of the best players in Texas, it's probably #3 behind Dallas and Houston.

I'm in Austin often, perhaps I will have to check out the tables and maybe we can get a few games in. I'm always looking for good places to play with no smoke.

Oh, and HOOK 'EM HORNS!!!!!!

welcome to the forum. always nice to see new members being initiated into the fold. and congrats to you for furthering the sport.

Do they still have those sweet old Brunswick 8fts there at The Underground? I used to play there a lot years ago. I wanna say they were Centuries or Anniversaries...something like that.

whoa... Former UT guy here... I was there last year and played a couple of your members....

freaking Jester and there god awful 8ft tables.... Ever get some good 7ft bar-box action going on the second floor of Gregory Gym? A lot of people didn't know about those tables...

Welcome to AZ Forums. I believe Texas does more to bring in the younger generation than any other state. It seems you all are always doing something with the youth and pool. Thanks for that. Johnnyt

That is cool! Years ago when I was in Highschool I would tell my folks I was going to the City library downtown only to end up over there instead! :D
