I heard from a Non TP Status WPBA Player that Linda Chen is now president of the WPBA and Kim White is VP. Im not sure if there was a vote or who voted. Im not positive who Linda Chen is either though i think she may be Sarah Ellerby's friend who helped Sarah get all the sponsorships.

I have had the privilege of meeting and conversing with Linda Chen on a few occasions. She has extensive experience in sports marketing, inclusive of integral involvement in the LPGA. She has held a major sports event marketing and management position with Disney, as well, and is very successful. Linda is suave and confident, presents herself well, and is bright and articulate.

The appointment of Linda Chen as WPBA president is a fine moment in the history of the one pool organization that has known sustained growth over the long haul. Trust me, the WPBA is in excellent hands.

PS I think Kim White is VP, not Kim Smith.

The two problems I have had with the recent WPBA elections were that I had to ASK for a ballot. As a current Semi-Pro member, I should have had one mailed to me. The past office did not upgrade my status for over 6 years. Eventually, after discussions with Jay and Peg, I was given one. Wow, $600 over six years and I was not upgraded.

Another problem I found out about was that another tour that was allowed to hold a Qualifier in my area, against Regional Tour rules, re-signed two members that had been Semi-Pro members as Amateur members. Only Semi-Pro members and above are allowed to vote in WPBA issues. Essentially, these two members were denied their voting rights.

And I am just as surprised as anyone that Kim White was downgraded to VP.

SJM, anyone, how did that happen?

Good or Bad,

Someone should clue me in why I only voted for a couple "AT LARGE" people and Kim was out of the President's office. And Mel was a "write-in", then not and what???

If this is true, it is GOOD news for the WPBA. This is someone who is quite savvy about marketing and securing sponsorship. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see the women's prize money double within a year.

Linda Chen is a great choice for the WPBA. Both her and Sara work tirelessly in the Marketing field. Hope this is true....randyg

I wonder what kind of salary Linda Chen gets? I’m sure it’s close to six figures. I hope it works out for the players. That’s a lot of money to pay someone on a tour that looks for volunteers to staff tournaments. Getting corporate sponsors for pool won’t be as easy as golf. Although women’s billiards has a better chance than men’s do. Johnnyt

Here is her first message and atached picture, from the WPBA newsletter:

Linda Chen LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT

Dear Players,

2006 marked the WPBA's 30th anniversary. Progress and positioning the WPBA for long-term success was the number one priority. The focus to elevate the WPBA product was the catalyst for another milestone. This past November, the organization elected its first ever non-player President.

It is an honor to represent the WPBA in this capacity, but more significantly is the responsibility entrusted to me by my peer Board members, which is made up of four players and three business leaders. The opportunities that lie ahead are not new, as my role on the Board this past year familiarized me with these challenges, but most importantly, I am excited about the bright horizon just ahead.

The ability to effectively lead change and position this organization for sustainable growth is the mission. The groundwork for this objective was laid in 2006, and 2007 will showcase some of the hard work and diligence. The television fans of pool will see a fresh new product as Winnercomm, America's largest independent sports production, program development, marketing service and sales representation company, will produce all WPBA events through 2009.

ESPN continues as the WPBA's cable partner delivering twenty-five hours of original programming across America plus numerous additional replay hours. We are also in negotiations to renew several International television contracts. These International outlets will deliver even greater broadcast hours and broaden the WPBA's worldwide exposure.

We also look forward to adding sponsors from outside the industry, increasing exposure of the WPBA through co-marketing partnerships. Such opportunities will serve to elevate the sport and all those involved to another level, with increased prize money, premium venues, improved fan experiences and promotional programs between the billiard industry and corporate America. May the New Year ring in with great momentum for change and new opportunities.

Sincerely,

Linda Chen
WPBA President

Thanks Linda.

Someone clue me in on this-

"The television fans of pool will see a fresh new product as Winnercomm, America¹s largest independent sports production, program development, marketing service and sales representation company, will produce all WPBA events through 2009."

What does that mean? Who is producing the events now? Who/what is being replaced? That is my question.
