Newest Varney j/b...

Didn't care for it. Nothing special. The finish on it was kinda different...but all else was "house cue conversion." Sold it almost immediately.

I bought an el cheapo McDermott from you at that bar in Annapolis about a year ago $60.00 is what you sold it for (reatail was like $149) and it was bearly used. How would you compare the Varney cue to that in terms of performance, looks, etc?

I would say that the McDermott would give the Varney the 7 and the breaks.

Again...I don't like wrapless cues...but I thought the finish that Kevin put on it felt pretty cool. I can't complain (much) about what I paid for it...it was relatively cheap compared to what he was selling them for at the time. There wasn't anything about the cue...aside from the finish, that left an impression. Looked like a Valley house cue from Fast Eddies in Alexandria.

Hell...for the money you spent on the McDermott, you got a lifetime warranty. Can't beat that with a big stick!! (no pun intended)

Thanks for the honest appraisal. I know a lot of cues go through your hands and I'm sure you play all of them. It's nice to read an unvarnished assessment.

That McD met a sad end. A few weeks after I got it, I sold it to a player on my team for what I paid for it. The night I am going to sell it to him, he asks me if he can give me 40 and the other 20 the following week. He had the whole 60 but didn't want to be left short. Since he's a teammate and I knew where to find him at least once a week, I said ok. 3 weeks go by with every excuse in the world why he doesn't have the 20. I'm starting to get aggrevated by the situation and he finally pays me.
The next week he shows up at league sans cue. I asked him where it was and he told me his kid knocked it to the floor when it was together and the shaft cracked at the joint...:frown: I told him when he got it to go on line a register it with McD for the warranty and maintenace program. He never did. Consequently he glued and clamped the shaft, and as far as I know (no longer on my team) he's still using it.

I know now that I will never buy a Varney. I do have a couple nice McD and another on the way. All 3 in the price range of Kevin's work, but all 3 have 2 shafts (1 standard and an I2 for each) and I even spent the extra couple bucks to make the ringwork on the I2 match. The best part is if anything goes wrong or I just need it tuned up I can send it in and they will take care of it.

A quick moment of silence for the broken McDermott..........

I have to admit...they play pretty nice. I like the I2 shafts MUCH better than the standard. If it's dialed in right, they play pretty sporty.

My condolences go out to the owner. It's a shame he didn't register it. Oh, well....for 60 bucks, it ain't to shabby....cracked collar or not!!

I liked the I2 enough to buy one for each of my McD's though I get asked if I'm shooting with a snooker cue (because of the super short ferrule) I wanted them all to shoot alike so there wouldn't be any adjustment time between cues.
Their June cue of the month is the Assasin which comes with a Pred 314 shaft  I wonder if McD will service it like it was their own product.

I am pretty sure it is not a white diamond tip unless requested by the customer. There was a thread on here earlier this year about Kevin creating a new tip that was supposed to be a jam up jumper/breaker.

Hey Willie...how you doing buddy?
The tip is my own it, its not a white diamond...its actually harder & holds chalk a bit better...and like my other ones, it is stemmed & threaded down into the ferrule. I guess we can call it a "White Kevin".:D
Good to hear from you Willie.:)
