No Filipinos at the Open?

Right. Orcollo, Parica, Alcano, Reyes, Pagulayan and SVB were the top 6 players from last year's open.
To add to that, there were 5 Filipinos on the last-16 of this year's WPC, Biado in the semis then Gabica in the finals. Then Dennis and Lee Van winning the world cup of pool. These are just some of the reasons why I'm disappointed that a lot of top Pinoy players are not joining the US Open.

It is feast or famine, to some players that made it to the US Open are very happy the top guns are not there it is a feast. To US people who wants to watch good stream sorry it is a famine, maybe we get lucky and Lee Van makes it to the top with Thorten Homman, my prediction.

^naji, let's still look on the bright side - maybe those top-caliber yet underrated players will get recognized and be known.

Helping the American players?

If the top ten pinoys were playing, there would be very little chance of an American making the finals.

You don't suppose there's something going on to give the American players a little help, do you?

Sounds to me as if the Phillipine players may have intentionally been discouraged from playing...

I'm curious...who are the top ten players from the Phillipines?

We all know you had a long history with the US Open and I am sure it hurts you as much as anyone for things to have turned out this way,for the players the fans and the promoter.
Maybe now some of these folks will understand that it isn't just "rumor mongering".
Or maybe they won't? lol

You can keep acting like you know something about the rumors. Funny how you really don't know for real.

He said...she said. What player did you talk to that didn't get paid?

I know...none. No matter what y'all say, the US Open is a great event to look forward to.

You know none , therefore there are none . Be well.

There is a large Filipino population in this area. Each time the Filipino champions are in the house, they have a huge fan base there.

It is a shame they can't make it this year. I think everybody is feeling financial pressures in the pool world. With more and more tournaments occuring overseas in Asian countries, it could be that the Filipino champs are more selective and pick and choose where they are going to travel.

Does anybody know if Spanish Mike Lebron is there at this year's Open? Sometimes he sponsors/backs a few Filipino champinos. I did not see his name on the player list, but I thought maybe he would be there as a railbird.

When the Filipinos are in the house, they're always occupying their time playing games. Here's a cute shot of Efren, Santos, and Bustie playing cards between Open matches.

Jam, this is not about the financial pressure or the distance traveled. The filipinos could have come if they so desired. They made a conscious choice not to support this event.

Lets be real here, US Open wants to have full bracket it seems they only have about 150 players, with other 50 not attending, that is $50,000 less!!

If i was a pool pro player, and i tried US Open once and it cost me $4000 to just to participate and end up winning say $1000, 16-18 hours flying screw that, i am not doing it again..

But it is true American players wants to win, but when it comes to top pros, they want those Pionys bad.

nah... i think it's just too expensive (i'm even putting aside the strict immigration/visa requirements and processing). the flight fare alone would cost about $1,500-$2,000, and that's a huge amount. notice why there are a lot of Filipino pool players participating in the China Open or Japan Open or the recent WPC in Qatar - it's near and really cheap for travel. If there's US Open 9-ball and maybe 2 other major tournaments this month in the US, then a lot of Filipinos would probably come.

right now i think the Filipino players are just keeping themselves busy on the local scene. about a week ago Efren played someone near my place. too bad i wasnt able to watch. yesterday Bustamante had a money match with Ado (guy on purple from this video, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-sO8zz0pN38).
