No more secrets in pool

My point of view is that there are no real big secrets in pool. It's all out there. Backhand english, aiming systems (which I doubt most top players are even aware of), kicking systems....Be honest with yourself, if you've been playing 10+ years are there secrets that can suddenly elevate your game? Do you think that the top players know more than you, or do they just do simple things better?

In every sport or activity there are people who want to sell you the ultimate secret, but what are these secrets all about? Profiting on the fame of people with tons of natural ability, and the vain hopes of people that will die as B-players, if they are lucky....Does that mean that it is hopeless to practice? NO, of course it bloody isn't. Face it if you've been playing more than 5 years and still isn't at an A level, there is almost zero chance you'll ever be a pro. That doesn't mean you can't eventually reach a very high level, if you practice the easy things that are out there (FOR FREE), instead of wasting time on magical fixes. I know some players that are a lot better than myself, and the fact is they all share a common trait: They got good fast, with a short time of playing intensively most were playing at a solid B-level. .Within a few years they were at the top of the game, open level players.

You pay the price of admission of every level with sweat and tears, but no 39.95$ can ever get you there or buy you the talent to skip ahead.

I've been playing for close to 25 yrs and I learn something new every now and then.
Some of it I payed for and some I didn't . There's still material out there that's good for your game and you have to invest in your game. It's not all about running out every time , there's plenty to learn. I for one like to see products on the market, it's what a sport is all about. Market/sale = better pool economy

Of course there are things to learn. Little things, a lot of them. There are however no conspiriacies to withold information to make you an instant pro or top player. No ultimate, final, absolute secrets to instantly transform you.

You mean if I buy a 6k dollar cue with an ultra super low deflection shaft and buy every dvd out there I won't become a pro within a year?

I do find it funny when I see the posts about people looking to become a pro within x amount of time. Everyone has seen my god awful playing and I have no delusions of becoming a world beater, I just want to get better.

That being said I do think pool is the rare sport that pure practice can get you to the pro field. I think there are some that just have that "it" factor and are naturally great but with enough practice I think a lot could at least compete in the pro field. It all comes down to how much time you are willing to put in, how disciplined you are and how open you are to making yourself better.

As far as I'm concerned the dots on the rails were put there as a secret to be kept and understood by a very few select people. Even when they write or do videos about it it's all mumbo jumbo. Apparently I was not selected to be one of the chosen. Mitch

Aw, c'mon - surely the ones with initials that cost money are real big secrets? Heck, one of 'em's even from another dimension... how could that not be a secret?

If you were the spokesperson for golf....... The top ten would live in double wide trailers.
Good job

Obviously, there is always something for the individual to learn.
But pool "secrets?" What the heck is that?

Some of the best in any endeavor will have you believe that they have the DVD, book, or private lesson that will 'propel you' to the next level.
Total b.s. in my opinion.

New knowledge in and of itself can be imparted, but it's only the individual practitioner who can take that knowledge and convert it into meaningful results.

Pool is not a difficult game. (Although Earl will have you believe it is).
There are no secrets to this game.
All it takes is repetition and patience.
Granted, not every player will attain the same level of skill;
that's usually due to individual talent, hours put in, life events, and other obstacles.

Stand, shoot, and just play the way you feel comfortable.
As long as you have the basics covered, you can be on your way.

I actually don't agree with your opinion... I know Ralf Souquet has several secrets he swears will not be released until he retires....

The thing about secrets is sometimes they are not really secrets but techniques and methods for executing certain shots at the world class level... May be simple things you should have known but didn't think about or maybe you didn't think they mattered....

I keep learning new things all the time be it a different kicking system or a simple trick for hitting certain shots....

The patent office said everything had been invented by 1898... I am sure that should give you an idea that science continues to evolve in spite of the scientists...

Earth Shattering secrets? Maybe not but there is always more to be discovered until you decide there isn't... You can only hope your opponent decided the same thing

You honestly believe that he has figured something out that nobody else, even players who beat him knowl?

There are a million conspiracy theories that exist as well. I prefer to remain sceptical of such things until I'm given some tangible proof. Usually such techniques are hard to communicate as well as being specific to that particular person...

Good for you.

We're not talking about science here. Most of the "secrets" people are selling have more in common with voodoo than science. What, do you think breakthroughs in quantum physics are going to change pool? We may get slightly better cues and tips, but that's about it. Unless you hope that Sfleinen is coming through with his mathematical proof of CTE...

As a matter of fact I hope my opponent spends all his time watching videos. It would be a disaster if he decided to actually practice his fundamentals and patterns instead...

Actually I think lots of players have their own secrets as to how they achieve the level they do and I am sure the guys that are Ralf's level, Which are few, have different secrets than Ralf... Sharing of these secrets may be the lightswitch that gets you to understand a concept or method....

I still won't agree with your opinion regardless of CTE being proven or disproven...

I don't agree with your opinion simply because this is a game that takes a life to learn and you find secrets everytime you go looking..

Some we keep... some we cast away... Some we forget and some we remember suddenly after forgetting we forgot them....

Everyone has limits.. Limits in ability, eyesight, mental or emotional intelligence and sometimes knowledge... Somebody out there likely has their very own little secret that would help in any of those areas.....

The problem is that there are too many secrets....just little things...and no one seem to have them all. Some of the best kept secrets are individualized and specific to a style of plays/individual. The game of pool is unique and has no limits so its a hard statement to swallow when you say all the secrets are out...LOL...you probably wouldn't know where to start if you were to try and list all the secrets to this game if that is even possible.
