No Pros at the BCA (Vegas) next year?

I am sure Mark will use this as an opportunity to stage an event of his own to draw the pros to Vegas in May. He has already done so much more and offers so much more than when the BCA League was part of the (BCA) :-)

Wait and see if there isn't another great pro event on the calendar that might even be more fun than a traditional tounament.

- giving Mark some pressure - as if he doesn't have enough already.

Last I saw he was working on the Shane Van Boening vs. the Phillipines event. :->

and the answer is . . . . . . .

I saw this post and do not have the final answer at this time. In the next day or two, I will give the background and inform everyone a little bit more about what is happening.

This is my first day back at the office in 3 weeks - but I'll get to it soon. Change is the only thing that is constant.

Stay tuned and thanks for your comments.

Good luck, Mark. I'm sure you will get it worked out. There's only several thousand members counting on it......no pressure ;) Just kidding. Do your best & we'll support you.

Wow - very disappointing. BCA Nationals and the pro event go hand in hand. eek: I liked the pros walking around and also watching them play.

But, glad to hear something may be in the works to sweat, though! That sounds interesting... :)

This news, pardon my French sucks!!! I didn't have the funds last year, and have them this year and.... damn!!!

Maybe this picture can describe what I'm feeling...

That will sure make the decision for a few hundred pool players to whether they go or not. It's too bad,but I'm a NO show if that happen's.
I'm glad this happened now so I can decide what to do with that 10 day's and the thousands I would have blown down there.
It also makes you wonder who makes these brilliant business Idea's.WOW!

Doh!

It's MY fault. I was planning on going to Vegas next year for the first time to check out the pros. Had it all planned out since I have some friends that just moved out there. Now of course, it's probably going to be cancelled. Also, if it rains.. it's probably my fault too cuz I just washed my car. Sorry.

It might suck that the pros won't be there this year, but it isn't the end of the world. I don't spend much time watching the pros in Vegas because there is a lot of great talent in the amateur tournament. Watching some of the grand-master players' matches is amazing to begin with. Those guys/gals can really put on a show if that's what you're looking for.

Watching the team events can be a lot of fun, too, because you can really feel the vibe from the different players on each team. You feel their pain with them when they lose and you feel their excitement when they win. Whats even better is when you're watching your own teammates play or your friends from your own hometown play. I have more vested in them than watching a bunch of pros playing predictable pool with the occassional fenominal shot here and there.

And if there is a time during the 10 ten days when you are there and you don't want to gamble and there is no good pool to be watched, take an hour or so and grab a chair out by the pool and hang out and get some fresh air for a change. It does a body good! After all, it is probably your vacation! :)

I have to agree with you Jimmy, I will spend my money on something else this year. Maybe 5 days at DCC. hmmm maybe???? who knows. This truly sucks.

Why not have two tourneys?

Why don't they have the tournament in Vegas with the BCA Nationals and have another at the Vendor Trade Show in Charlotte - not the same sweaters and more money for the players - West and East I say.

That's a good idea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think to cancel the Vegas event is not just bad for the Amateur players but the Pros, that really look forward to the event! It is probably one of the biggest audiances of all pro events and it is also one of the most prestigous Pro Events in the U.S.!

I think the idea of adding a pro event to Charlotte is a much better solution for everyone!

On what basis do you feel this? Where would the funding for an extra event come from? Though counted in the WPBA and UPA rankings, the Enjoypool.com open was an independently produced and funded event. If the producers have opted out, then that's their right. If an event to replace this loss is being planned to coincide with the BCA Trade show in June, that's good news, not bad news, for the fans.

To all concerned pool players

Just a brief explanation. The pro event usually held in Vegas in conjunction with the BCAPL event; This event was "owned" by the Billiard Congress of America. The BCAPL (since 2004) was the "landlord" for the event because we have the lease arrangment with the Riviera. Peg Ledman "ran" the event for the BCA.

I think it is great that the BCA support such an event - no matter where it is. The problem of two shows (as suggested by some) is the funding. The BCA has supported this event to the tune of over $100,000 every year. Not many can afford to book that kind of loser.

I personally feel (I am biased) that it should remain where the players are but the powers that be have decided to have the event in conjunction with the annual Trade Show. This is held in Charleston, NC in 2008. It goes back to vegas the next couple of years.

The event in Vegas and the new event at the trade show are going to be different kinds of events. The trade show is not open to the public. But since this is "made for TV" - it is a different situation.

This was not my decision. I am not the BCA (Billiard Congress of America-although I am a member of the Board). It is their event and they believe the event will serve them better in the trade show environment.

Now - on another topic. There were several posters saying their main reason for going to Vegas is to see the pros. We are trying to arrange another event that will have a high interest level. Keep in mind the BCA lost a HUGE amount every year - which the BCAPL cannot underwrite.

I hope everyone remembers the primary focus of the National 8-ball tournament. It is for all of members to have a National Championship.

We will listen to all logical suggestions to make our event and league better. I am sorry if this has altered anyone plans but now we are in control of all of the Riviera space. We will come up with something that is better for most of the attendees. Stay Tuned.

Mark,

Thanks for communicating with us on this important topic. Maybe some of the AZ membership can come up with some ideas. I say bring Keith and Earl together for an extended matchup.

Hi Mark,

I just wanted to say thank you for explaining the situation but more so for hearing our comments and now looking into some potential resolutions/events.

It' pretty obvious the potential for an extra event - one that the amateurs want to see, one that would make us enjoy the BCA Nationals even more, and one that could even make money. The extreme potential of the massive audience at the BCA Nationals opens up a great opportunity, IMO, for everyone involved.

Thanks again,
Melinda

Mark,
Thanks for the heads up. Gee I'm sorry to hear that the Enjoy Pool Tourney loses money - I go every year. I hope you can replace it with something else (even a little excuse to go) for Vegas because I love to sweat and spend. I think that if there are vendors at Vegas, they will lose some of their revenue because of the no shows who like the Pros.
Adios.

I'm sure Mark will come up with something interesting, worth while and entertaining. He always does:) .

The future

I know that there was some thought/conversation that this could happen., but it is not the end of the world at the event. The event is still the best tournament of this type. The matching up and sweating matches will be missed, but something will eventually be develop that will excite people attending Hey BCA might decide that placing this pro event at the trade show was a mistake.
