Not ashamed...

Thanks for putting this up. Was looking for the other thread last night and couldn't find it and thought i was going crazy
Wanted to watch the other videos on sidebar. Don't ever be ashamed of doing something you love and enjoy.

I agree 100 percent.

Neil, as the recipient of a lot of banned members posting (trolls), I empathize with your frustration. I realize today that the only reason it was so hurtful to me was because I used to care a great deal about AzBilliards Discussion Forum. I devoted a lot of time to contributing to pool-related threads, whether it be about historical events, trip reports, updates at tournament, photographs, and fun pool memories.

When they went after Keith because of their disdain for me, that ended me caring about this forum. When you let it go, it won't bother you anymore, either. ;)

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. There really is a life outside of AzBilliards Discussion Forum. You can still enjoy the News Page on front page of the website without even having to venture into the Discussion Forum. I find I like reading the News page in the mornings.

I come to the forum mainly to catch up on tournament updates. We have friends active on the tournament trail, and it's fun to see how far they advanced and how much money they pocketed.

Like the print newspapers that have gone belly up, the fourth estate has suffered a major blow thanks to the advent of crowd sourcing and social media. You can today get the news much faster on crowd-sourcing and social medial outlets than you can in print or on a discussion forum.

If camaraderie is what you're looking for, networking with like-minded folks, the forum used to be a great place to do this, but due to the trolls continuing to jump in and out of threads with their nasty and flippant posts made for the sole purpose of causing hurt and/or anger, this forum does not offer what it used to.

JAM,
You have to admit, the AZB management has muzzled many of the trolls ;-) and they seem to be doing a better job of monitoring the site in recent months.

Every now and then someone will post an ad hominem attack but they are getting fewer by the week.

Thanks for posting this. I love watching other members shoot and I've read through the Dr. Dave drills but seeing someone doing it has made me really want to give it a shot. I'm no where near your level though lol.

Also, just wanted to stop by and say thanks for sticking around even through the trolls to give us noobies some advice when we have questions.

I suggest you look at the stickie at the beginning of the forums for the thread on the Billiard University. The first post in it has scores of those who have taken it on here. It also has links to those that videoed the test. Looking at several videos, you will see different approaches to doing the drills. There isn't just one way to do some of them. And then please post your scores in the thread.

I agree with everything JAM said but would like to add, I often prefer Facebook when it comes to discussing anything, including pool. People tend to troll less when their accounts contain their real names. I like azb and continue to try and find opportunities to contribute but like JAM, it's simply not worth the aggravation after the conversation deteriorates into name-calling and unsolicited criticism.

And, for the record, I didn't need to watch a video to know you can play. When you know how to play well, you can tell how someone else plays just by what they say.

Neil,
Just keep doing what you are doing - and above all else ... enjoy yourself! The best way to silence your critics is through success - not only at the table, but also in LIFE. IMO, if you are enjoying the game (no matter what level you're at) then you're already winning - and you're miles ahead of the anonymous, negative douchebags that feel the need to post bullchit on an internet forum so that they can feel good about themselves.

Oh yeah ... and after watching that video ... Efren said he'll take the 8 and the crackles.

:grin-square:

Yes, he will. (and he'd be loving it) Denny Searcy once decided to play me even too. (I didn't have a clue at the time who he was ) (found out later he could have given me the 7 and played one handed and still win)

Since the trolling thread about me was removed, and some think that was indicative of how I always play, I decided to throw up a video of around the same time frame when I was having a much better breathing day. This video is pretty indicative of how I actually played a couple of years ago. I feel that it does back up the things I have tried to teach on here. Some may not think so.

It's nothing great, by any means. I'm just an A player, not a pro or shortstop. Never claimed to be. But, on occasion I have held my own with a few shortstops and pros. You can fast forward through the set-up parts and just watch the actual shooting, and it takes about half the time to watch. I'm open to comments on it, just try not to be a horse's rear-end about it.;)

The video is me taking the Billiard University Masters test, part 1. Part 2 is most likely in the sidebar, but not worth watching. I fell apart at the end of the test and made some boneheaded mistakes that cost me a better score bigtime. Missed shots that I don't normally miss one after the other. :o

The test is a real good test that covers many aspects of play. If you haven't tried it, I strongly suggest trying it.

You're a great player Neil. Don't let any keyboard jerkoffs diminish that. Beyond that you consistently try to help others become better. You're good people.

And my offer to back you for any amount against the "troll boy" who started that thread still stands. I seriously doubt they want any action. Trolls usually don't play well, or at least NEVER would bet a nickel the sky was blue ;)

JB! Been missing your input around these parts.
Good to see you post up.

It seems there are more haters nowadays than ever before.
You could run 1000 balls and there would still be people saying you sucked.
I know it's hard to ignore, but you know the truth, not them.
In reality, they are miserable and can't stand it that someone else is not.
I actually feel pity for them.

And not a one of them will post how they actually play. I used to feel pity for them, but don't anymore. It a choice they have made, and daily continue to make the same stupid choices. Because they choose to be the way they are, they deserve contempt much more than pity.

I understand that feeling well.
I try to remember that you shouldn't expect mercy, if you can't give mercy.
I believe that one day, I will need all the mercy I can get.
That makes it a lot easier for me.
Best of luck to you.

That's very true, and I have spent a lot of time thinking about it myself over the years. Where I draw the line is in willful ignorance. If one just doesn't really know any better, then teach them. If taught and one still refuses it, try again. If they repeatedly refuse it, they are willfully ignorant, and deserve what they get, which is no mercy. Theres a line to be drawn between those that try and fail, and those that repeatedly refuse to try. First group gets all the mercy. Second group gets none.

I'm pretty sure Neil doesn't care what TheThaiger on AZ Billiards thinks about his shooting lol
