Yep, I don't know who picked that game for Monday night.

Dave Pearson is just plain amazing. He finishes 6 racks in the time it takes most to finish one

I like watching speed pool. Maybe I am in the minority.

It is the first pool event that was broadcast in hi definition by the way.

It is a pitiful state of affairs when two novelty forms of the game we love - Trick Shot 'Magic', and Speed Pool - are the only ones ESPN thinks will compete with the likes of The World Series of Poker and Tractor Pulls (I suppose Dave Pearson and Stefano Pelinga might take issue...)

i really wish theyd stop showing that speed pool crap. You know its only a matter of time before some banger comes into the poolhall and starts playing it and telling everyone its "the new thing". like te idiot who cant make 2 balls in a row so he practices trick shots for an hour to impress his chick.

I watched some of that last night and I HATED IT!!!!!

Did I hear correctly that the winner got $40K ???????

If so, I'm gonna puke.....:frown:

It apparently has some entertainment value to the non-player crowd. In fact, I had two different non-players who mentioned to me they watched the matches last night.

Congrats to Bobby McGrath on another big win!

I always erase speed pool from my TIVO, right along with trick shots, but last nite it kept coming back, on either HD or regular. So finally, I sat down and gave in. Actually, I will admit I'd watched a little last year because that nut Pearson is entertaining, and I found myself pulling for him because he's such a basket case.

Amazing that he got there and lost yet again. The Ginger Wizard is now the Washington Generals of speed pool.

But what about Bobby McGrath? Looks like he can play some. Believe they say he traveled with Judex James. How does he do at normal pace? Like his temperament, anyway.

Every time I see that crap I think of what would Mosconi say if he saw it. Would he really think it was pool or a carnival game.

Bobby and Judex are both from Peoria IL...They are both good players who match up with anyone who comes thru (halfway between Chicago and St. Louis - so they see some action). Bobby hasn't played in many tourneys as of late, and I'm not sure exactly why??? He won VNEA 9 ball singles in Vegas in 07, the Speed Pool thing in 07, APA 8ball regional (in Indy) in 08 - not sure what he placed in the Vegas tourney??, and then the Speed Pool thing again in 08 (which is what just aired). I know Bobby pretty well, and it's kind of a Bobby is Bobby kinda thing...when he applies himself he can be a ton, but he doesn't seem to do that as much as some would like him to. His dad and the elder Bowman (Jamie and Jesse's dad) are old buds, and Bobby and Jesse have done a few little road trips together in the past too.

I'm just glad he took this down for the REPEAT. Dave's yelling and jumping around gets old in a hurry (to me at least). Though many on here think speed pool is a joke; I'd like to see him do it again next year for the 3PEAT!!! Watching him practice for the event is kinda cool too (seeing him run stripes, then solids, then the 8 without missing a shot in under a minute is...WOW!!).

speed pool?

I'm with Travis everytime i check the tivo box for pool and see either speed, trick stuff or women I blow it off. All the great matches that have been played and thats all espn can put on. How can this happen must be the same people who run the economy. In my area its typically classic pool so they can show any of the good matches and this is the best they can find. oh come on!!

I know what you are saying, but if Mosconi found out there was a $40,000 paycheck for winning it I suspect he would give it a whirl. I know Lou Butera would have, and probably would have won it.

Bobby Mcgrath Jr.

I knew bobby around Daves in peoria. He is one of the best natural shooters i have seen play the sport. He can play all facets of the game. Let anyone try to beat bobby right now shooting speed pool. I think most people are jealous because they try to run a rack in a minute and they cant do it consistently. If Bobby practiced all the time he would already be up there with the young guns like shane ect... Maybe he will have a good showing at the Derby this year. All I have to say is Bob good luck brother on winning some more cheese!
Jay arkie
little rock AR.

Bob if u read this lets play some bumps.

What a joke this was. Throw in the fact that there were only maybe 45 spectators and the event was televised. Great deal for Bobby though!! Would have liked to see Danny Bassavich do it now that might be worth watching!!

In the eightball portion at least it looked like he played good patterns and rarely missed,
I'm guessing that that transfers to good play at any speed.

Willie Mosconi was in Amana, Iowa in early 1987 for SOME TRICK SHOTS

Willie was a pool player if it involved pool he most likely played it. And was probably great at it. Always looking for a challenge. Thats what makes a great player to me. Mike Massey is also a great pool player, those involved with Speed Pool and Trick Shots are by no means limited in their skills. Its boring to many.

Bobby is a VERY good 8 ball player (probably his best game - even though he won VNEA nationals in 9 ball). The thing about it is, he plays pretty darn quick normally (sees things very fast), so he just moves faster to play speed pool (mentally his game is moving about that fast anyway - his body just needs to catch up, and of course moving more quickly can make cue ball control and pocketing a bit too hurried and less accurate). In regular 8 ball he is (like I said) VERY good.
