This is a cue that's been in the works. It's very near complete. At first glance it's a nice, simple cue. Look close & see if you can spot the builder induced flaw, particularly evident in the third pic. It sucks because bocote doesn't come figured like this very often, and I ruined the cue. The bocote has strong figure all the way around. Structurally the cue is sound & solid & straight. The flaw is cosmetic. Another builder nor a cue nut could find it upon personally inspecting, so it must be minor. But it's likely not leaving my possession.

are the rings are different?

it is hard to tell how and if so from the photos, but the one on bottom appears thinner or smaller or maybe the slots are thinner.

is it in the rings? the one above the handle looks to be thicker than the one below the handle. and i dont care if it doesnt match i want it!!!

missing some white rings? either way its a shame. I obviously wouldn't mind but we know how particular you are about your cues (probably why you make such wonderful cues).

That's what I was thinking too. That or the white rings.

nice cue

Flaw or not...nice bacote... For me though, cut a channel and put some linen on that bad girl.

OK I truly feel like I know nothing about cue building now.....
I don't see a difference in the rings so here is a guess that may prove my fear:
Is the handle up side down?

Sell the cue as a second.

Gorgeous Wood

It appears that the rings in the sleeve are a little thinner than the rings above the handle and at the joint collar"
Can you carefully cut through the rings in the sleeve portin of the cue, make a new dowel/tang for the sleeve and re-do that portion of the cue??
BTW,
Your cues look great, nice styling... I recently saw one with long rosewood points, white linen wrap, That cue looks great

What you consider a flaw, others would look upon as pushing the creativity envelope. I see nothing wrong with it.

It's your cue, only you can determine how to proceed with it.

By the way, primo example of Cordia.

As the cue nut in question, you didn't give me that much of a clue..... Yes I looked at the rings and I was looking for a flaw or to see if they lined up. Something was out of place I just couldn't put my finger on it. Also I don't remember if I was wearing my glasses..... Yeah that's it......

it looks like you went to a wider dash-ring in the B/C positions compared to the D/E positions.

but i must be wrong as any cue builder or cue nut would have seen that with cue in hand.

but for me and others here, all we see is another beautiful cue by you!

best,
smokey

Yes, it's the rings. Somehow I cut the dash rings two different thicknesses. I cut to a standard .030" or .040" for dash rings & .015" & .020" & .030" for accent rings. I cut all rings for a cue at one time & stack them as they'll be assembled on a peg board, each cue having it's own peg of rings. But somehow I cut all .030" rings for this cue, then the last two, which are the butt rings, I cut at .040". I must have been daydreaming or something. Granted, the difference in the rings is equivelant to two human head hairs, pretty fine. But it bothers me. I didn't even notice until the final cut. Just thought i'd share one of those cues that may never become. I'll try a little reworking & finish it and see if I can get it right.

I have trash bins of cues just like this. Often times cues die before they are ever born. Some are sickening because they are fancy. Even this simple cue is a waste of rediculously rare bocote.

Don't waste the woods...share it with those that are unfortunately to afford to buy a cue :grin-square:

You know what....

Eric, I do not have a custom jump break yet. I've been using a viscotti..cut the cue and make it a jump break for me for Christmas!!!

I did something similar on a cue last year. I was about to put it up for sale and noticed I used .030 black rings in the front and .015 in the back. 99% of the people who would buy the cue would probably never notice. I finished up the cue and gave it to my mother husband who never plays anywhere but at home. He knows the cue is not allowed to leave the house.
