Hello all,

After 11 months of cuelessness (it is even worse than the word itself) - owning a Mottey for a week meanwhile - the time has come again for me to get back and play some pool! :)

I purchased the cue below from HouseMan / Bryan and I must confess that it has been the very-very best transaction I have ever had anywhere. Just one example that he responded always quickly and in the first PM he had a price, perfect pictures and a thorough description only lacking the shaft diameters. He wouldn't go and look for someone who has a friend who has a caliper but he went out and bought one for this. The cue was packed like nothing I ever saw or could imagine. Once again, Thank you Bryan.

Now, onto the cue :-D

It is a 2005-09 Mottey cue, full ivory joint, joint rings and inlays in the forearm and a superb Maple/Ebony Bushka ring... plus some split diamonds of ivory in the butt sleeve...
It has a delrin butt cap, it is on the heavier side (will get measures soon) but it has a weight bolt.

Balance is perfect and I'll take it out for a spin soon.

Nice score. When I first scrolled down before reading I thought it might be a Nitti then I saw Pauls signature. Gorgeous cue! Doesn't the smooth transaction just feel like icing on the cake?

i like the split diamonds and spear heads in the points, it has a Gus look to it. I'm sure it will play great. Congrats!!!
 
I heavily considered buying this cue but the timing was not right for me. I have always wanted a classic looking Mottey for a very long time.

Thank you all for the very nice words, this cue really is very nice - I could hardly put it down... I was going to take more pictures but had to study instead, next week I have 6 exams on 5 days, it's really bad until Wednesday. On Wednesday though after the exam I'm off to the pool hall...

Thanks once again, I can't tell how much style this cue has - I've been drawing cues like this on and off for years, and finally it's here...

Very clean and very sharp veneers and ivory points..you just got a one heck of a player cue...hope you will own that cue for a very long time :)..enjoy shooting with that cue...:)

MOttey cues i think is one of the best hitting cue i have tried, play and own by far....

Mdavis228: thanks, I love the veneer colours - actually I am not really into the vibrant ones, this time I was craving something more subtle. I admire all those popping colours too, but this is just so sweet and calming to look at, it's incredible.
The split diamonds are one of the nicest inlay themes in my book... this is why I was so happy when I contacted the seller (who has removed the cue from the F/S thread) and said that he still has it and is willing to let it go!

Jun, thank you my friend! :D I am planning to hold onto this until a Szamboti, I would like to try others too but for now I am sticking to this... stick. Okay, that was cheap, but still, it's this or a Gus - and that takes some very-very serious scholarship...

I am glad to read that you fancy it - you have exceptional taste in cues and you liking this cue is a reference as good as it gets for this humble stick. The execution truly is perfect, I took some macro shots and will take more, showing the execution... this is definitely not as intricate as many-many others shared on this forum, but even for the Master makers like Hercek, Gina or Gus/Barry, it all starts with the basics... and if those are done well, then you have a solid foundation to build your future on. I fancy believing that Paul has had this foundation and has done a good job throughout his career.

I truly appreciate every motivating word and yours is definitely no exception. I can only imagine how much you had to study to become an Eye-doc, my studies are more humble than that, but we still have our rear ends kicked every few weeks hard... I love cues, cars and travelling way too much and I think I had just enough of them to have the motivation to keep myself on this track (I have purchased all my travellings and cues and other things from my own money that I earned and although it isn't all too much, it is still good and I am proud of them:)).

P.S.: I might just add that another aim, merely beyond a Gus (that's first) is a Patek. I have held two in my hands so far and it's like a Gus, but in a watch... They are just different... and if you think about it, they are just as crazy as cues or cars, someone else won't understand their value (not to mention their price) until he/she shares the passion for them. It either just shows the time and bounces some balls around a table or if it's a work of ingeniousity.

Today it was the first day of me trying this cue - I have to tell that I was rather excited, not mostly because of the investment / value of the cue, as I assume it will be an easy resale (I already have two applicants :D), but because I love it so much I would hate to part with it... It's a piece of me now.

Anyhow, I tried it and I was amazed. The SS joint Mottey played dead, more dead than other SS joint cues that I have tried... Given it was dead, it was consistent as well, but it wasn't much a thrill on the long run.
This one however "sings", it has a beautiful sound. A "local" pro (this country's several times champion and overall an accomplished European player) and I were just listening to the sound of it. It tinks a little, but not in a bad, annoying way, this one is sweet!

I was amazed at how well it moved the CB... I had hoped that it will be half as good as a Gus Szamboti I played with (it belongs to Fatboy), that cue was simply UNREAL... This cue is about 3/4, maybe 4/5 as good as that in this, but it still great - especially that it still has the original LePro tips, if I'm not mistaken.

As promised, I took some more pictures with the theme being the split diamonds...

I think it's funny how the rounded lamp messes with the super sharp look of the cue - it's a weird picture!

Your cue is almost a dead ringer for a cue that Gus built for me, I wish I still had it. I am glad you are happy its a quality instrument , now play it to perfection. Happy Holidays
 
Thank you all, I take so much pride in owning this cue, it's far but I am getting closer to a Gus, that's the non-plus-ultra for me, definitely.

As I don't have no time at all to play it, I just take it out in the evening when I finally fall home. I wish in January I'll be able to take it out!!!

I took a few more pictures, I'll share one or two here later when I upload them :)
