If you don't know you better ask somebody not me. I suggest authenticating any Szam before you buy it. If you can't understand that then buy one that is not authinticated by Barry.
I do not and have never have sold any Szam's however I might buy one from a friend in this area. He is the origional owner and I know who ordered it for him personally. If not it would have to go to Mr. Barry!
There are more than a few Szam copies out there and the only way to know for sure if you are buying a Szam is to have it authinticated by the man before you purchase it!

it looks authentic. the question i ask is did Gus flat cut or miter his veneers in box cues?

So your stance is protect the counterfitter that you publicly stated you have personal knowledge of and not the many potential buyers here that would benifit from your honesty?

Go slow it is easy if you try. Read my post again and then read it agian if you have to. Then have someone else explain it to you if you need to!!

I hear ya. If that cue goes for 35K...or half that....that's anywhere from one month to 1/2 a month's pay...gross. LOL Man. That's some serious cheese right there.

Gorgeous cue though...if it's real.

Auction's up over 10K so far. Can't wait to see what this fetches.
 
Just my 2 cents: I can't speak to whether or not this is a legitimate auction or not, and I don't know if this is a counterfeit GS. But I knew Lee Boyar when I lived in LA (Los Angeles) in the late 70's & early 80's and she & her husband had plenty of dough - they had many high end one-of-a-kind cues made by the best.

The cue looks every bit the real deal. I am also very happy the bidder seems to be letting the auction fly. (of course the right offer might change that) If the 8 pointer from the Ct / Mass area got a 40k offer, this cue should blow it clear out of the water. This seems to be early on, and maybe even made before the "snap" cue. The imperfections only add to the value and show it to be that of an early period cue. The single black linen is from that period. All in all, its a dynamo. Considering the fact that most the other really spectacular cues by Gus have made it to the Pacific rim, a cue like this is a rarity.

As of 10:25pm MST, it's at $20,100.10 with 37 bids and over five days to go. It will be a long haul.... and probably go for fair market value!
 
Anyone care to make a bet on the finishing price of this cue if the auction is allow to continue?

My bet would be between $35,000 and $40,000 and at that price the cue is still a steel for a Original Szamboti Box cue with By Gus Szamboti in a box on the butt in this condition. Lets hope the cue stays in the US, it would be a shame for it to end up in Asia. But eBay, certainly caters to a world market for sure.
