So do you think if the names could be seen by the other bidders, it might have affected the way the bidding has gone AND the final price?
yes i believe that, i know there are some of my customers that i will not bid aginst and would contact them ahead of time ! I talked with will before i bid the first time and he said have at it! but iam out of the running I was buying it for my personal collection but 30,000 was my topps good luck to all!

44.2 now... 2 hrs plus to go.....

man- i am leaving to go play so i won't be watching it either... first thing when i get home i'm loggin on to see the final bid... what an auction... i couldn't even dream of spending that on a cue... been an interesting thread here too ....LOL....

Szamboti

I am definitely pulling for Will. What a good friend and man of high intregity. They don't come any better.

Go get 'em tiger. :D

Jimmy

Note: also, if Will is the sweepstakes winner, I may be lucky enough to get to see the masterpiece in person. :)

someday i'll regret not buying this cue, but i just dosent appeal to me. the historical value etc does but it looks terrible to me, it dosent floe, the inlays dont help the looks of the boxes, the only thing i really like is Gus's name on the cue-thats cool, even the wood in the forarm has a funny curve just above the wrap, what i do like it validates the market for Gus's cues. it will be interesting.

I just dont get the bidding war?

If Will or whoever is ALL IN for $40K, $50K,$60K, then staying on the sidelines and sniping the auction would save them $10-$20K.

:D :D

Well I just got bank from the bank and I didn't have enough in checking.. so I was lucky enough to sell one of the kids, looks like I'll be bidding... :D

with all respect to you, in an art sense this cue "flows" in every way. the veneer thickness compared to the box dimensions are very nice. the gaps between the boxes as well as the size change between them in the forearm are very pleasing to the eye. the addition of the diamond and dots round out the forearm canvas and the size and placement of the diamonds and dots are crucial to getting this to look right, which was accomplished imo. the relationship is just as nice in the sleeve. the arrangement of the dots and diamonds as well as the distance separating them show perfect composition and continue the theme from the forearm imo. the different ring work that exists through the cue work separates the four distinct parts of the cue, the joint from the forearm, from the wrap, and from the sleeve. this keeps the work interesting and makes me know that Gus had a great eye for taking different elements and putting them together to make one great "form".

I just showed it to the family

My wife didn't like it she said it looked like a bulletin baord.
Then I showad them the bid and they freaked out!
I thought it might go $70,000.00. Lets see if I am close!
Nick :)

Well, I got it, and am very pleased with the acquisition!!! I now have over 40 box cues in my collection, including some nice ones that will go great with this Szamboti.

For example, I have the first box cue ever made, by Ernie Gutierrez (Ginacue) in 1969 for Ed Kelly. This cue is documented in the BB2. This cue was a benchmark for other cuemakers at the time, and I have spoken with several current master cuemakers, etc. who are all very familiar with the Ginacue. I won`t go into others in the box cue part of the collection, but I will say that I am very pleased to have this new addition. 35+ years of collecting brings some good ones home.

It won`t be fun selling my car and riding a bicycle for the forseeable future, but I am glad I made the purchase.

Thanks to all the great AZers who offered support and made the auction process one full of fun and excitement.

Will :) :) :) :p :o :)
